RP5-GM61 Radio Replacement Interface
Radio Replacement Interface for General Motors Vehicles with 29-bit V2 and with or W/O BOSE and OnStar
Introduction and Features
The RP5-GM61 interface allows the replacement of a factory radio in select General Motors vehicles equipped with 29-bit LAN v2, 20-pin, and 16-pin connector radios. This interface is designed to retain factory features such as BOSE, OnStar, vehicle settings, steering wheel controls (SWC), front and rear park assist, and warning chimes after the original radio is removed. Additionally, the RP5-GM61 provides data bus driven outputs including retained accessory power (RAP), vehicle speed (VSS), illumination, reverse trigger, and parking brake.
Important Notes
- For optimal installation time, make your vehicle settings selections before removing the factory radio. After the radio is removed, vehicle settings normally accessed through the factory radio can be managed by downloading and installing the PAC RadioPRO PC Application from www.pac-audio.com/firmware.
- Before removing the factory radio, review the following settings, as they will not be retained after removal: Ambient Lighting Control, OnStar Text, Teen Driver Feature, Performance Data Recorder, Valet Mode, Custom Launch Control (Line Lock, Launch Control), and Rear Park Assist Symbols displayed on the Reverse Camera Image.
- Upon first plugging in the module, it will undergo an initialization process lasting up to 12 seconds. Ensure the vehicle is running during this process.
- Adjust the radio select DIP switches on the interface to match your new radio's settings before connecting the interface to the vehicle. Refer to the setting chart on page 2.
- The Voice button can be configured via the RadioPRO PC Application to activate the factory OnStar function. By default, it controls the aftermarket radio's voice function.
- To retain OnStar functionality when using an aftermarket amplifier for mids & highs, an additional RPA-SPK Chime speaker must be purchased separately.
- The interface is pre-programmed for all factory SWC functions. Programming is only required if you wish to re-assign SWC functions, use buttons without initial programming, or utilize short press/long press dual commands. To restore default settings, press and release the program button once and wait 7 seconds for the LED to flash 4 times. Note: Chevrolet Malibu models may require SWC re-mapping, with default volume up/down and track up/down potentially reversed.
- Language settings in some vehicles are controlled via MOST. Adjust these settings accordingly before removing the radio, as they may not be accessible after installation.
- Refer to the vehicle's RPO CODE sticker, typically located in the glove box or under the spare tire cover, for specific vehicle information.

- Wire your aftermarket radio to the RP5-GM61 harness according to the wiring connections chart on page 3.
- If your aftermarket radio has a mute wire, cut the Brown mute loop in Interface Connector 4. Use the side of the loop next to the orange wire in pin 24 to connect to your aftermarket radio's mute wire.
- Plug Interface Connectors 1 & 2 into their corresponding ports on the RP5-GM61 interface.
- Interface Connector 3 connection depends on whether the vehicle has a factory amplified system. Plug it into the appropriate port on the RP5-GM61.
- Remove the factory radio and connect the RP5-GM61's Vehicle Connectors 1, 2, & 3 into the factory vehicle harness. Vehicle Connector 3 may not be present in all vehicles. For vehicles with IOA / IOB build codes, use Vehicle Connector 7 to adapt your main harness.
- Vehicle Connectors 4 & 5 are mandatory when removing the factory CD player to maintain the MOST loop integrity. Failure to connect them will result in no sound. Not all connectors may be present.
- Vehicle Connector 6 (GM5CAM-DIS-HAR) is used in vehicles with an IOB Build Code and connects to the harness plugged into the factory display after removal, to maintain the camera signal.

- Make all connections as described in the chart. Review all connections before plugging the harness into your vehicle.
- For vehicles with IO5 / IO6 RPO CODE, steering wheel control buttons must be hardwired into the RP5-GM61. Locate the wire by removing the steering wheel shroud, accessing pin 9 at the Black 10-pin connector at the base of the clock spring (Fig. 1). Connect the provided 60" Green/Black wire from the GM61 module to this wire. Soldering this connection is highly recommended for consistent operation. Do not cut this wire in half.
- Plug in the CMX chime module if needed. This is always necessary unless the vehicle has a factory BOSE amplifier. Connect the CMX to the 2-pin "CMX Module" pigtail and install it in a location where it can be easily heard, typically low in the dash facing downward.
- Connect the SWC wire or the 3.5mm SWC jack to the aftermarket radio according to the chart. The aftermarket radio must support a wired remote input.
- To reassign SWC functions, follow the programming instructions on page 5.
- Connect the Red and White RCAs to the aftermarket radio's AUX input to retain the factory 3.5mm AUX input jack.
- If the vehicle has the base level radio (IO3) and a factory reverse camera, connect the Yellow RCA in the harness to the reverse camera input on the back of the radio. For IO4, IO5, or IO6 systems, follow notes "A & B" for reverse camera retention. Refer to the vehicle's RPO CODE sticker. Disregard the Yellow RCA on the main GM6X-HAR when using the CAM-GM51.
- a. Connect the supplied CAM-GM51 Harness (Fig. 2). This harness connects at the Human Machine Interface Control Module (HMICM), typically found behind the glove box or high in the passenger side kick panel. The HMICM will have USB and LVDS cables connected to it.
- b. The factory reverse camera is powered by the vehicle, not the HMICM. The camera remains powered even when disconnected from the HMICM, so no additional wiring is needed for power.
