Main Functions
- Loop Break Alarm (LBA): Detects heater break, sensor break, or manipulator malfunction by measuring the change in value over a set time when the control output is 0% or 100%. A dead band can be set to prevent false alarms.
- Auto Tuning (AT): Automatically measures, computes, and sets optimal PID or ARW constants. Initiate by pressing the [SET] and [AT] keys simultaneously while the temperature is increasing after power-on.
- ON/OFF Control Setting: Used for controlling devices like refrigerators, fans, or solenoid valves. Set the proportional band to 0 in standard mode. Hysteresis parameter will be displayed to prevent frequent ON/OFF operations.
- Input Filter: Selectable time (0-100 sec) to eliminate unstable PV values caused by noise. Setting to [0] disables the filter.
- Control Direction: Selectable between Reverse action (heating) [0] and Direct action (cooling) [1].
- Alarm Hold Operation: Turns off alarm output until the process value (PV) is outside the alarm range. Useful for preventing alarms during initial power-up when the PV is rising towards the set value.
- HYS Selection: Determines how hysteresis is applied: 0 for under set value, 1 for over and under set value.
Alarm Functions
- Deviation Alarm: Alarm activates when the PV deviates from the set value (SV) by a specified amount.
- Absolute Alarm: Alarm activates based on absolute PV thresholds.
- Band Alarm: Alarm activates when the PV is within a defined band around the SV.
- High & Low Alarm: Separate alarms for high and low PV thresholds.
- Hysteresis: A range around the alarm setpoint that prevents rapid switching of the alarm output. Can be set for high and low alarms.
Diagrams: Visual representations of alarm conditions (e.g., High alarm, Low alarm, Band alarm) and control actions are included.
Operation and Settings
- Control Mode: After power-on, the controller displays the model and firmware version, then enters control mode showing PV and SV. Pressing the [SET] key blinks the SV, allowing adjustment with [▲] and [▼] keys. Press [SET] again to confirm. Auto-tuning can be initiated by pressing [SET] and [AT] keys simultaneously.
- Standard Mode Setting: Allows frequent user settings like alarm parameters, ON/OFF operation, and hysteresis. PID auto-tuning can automatically set PID parameters.
- System Mode Setting: For initial setup and advanced parameter configuration. Enter by pressing [SET] and [ESC] keys simultaneously for 3 seconds in control mode. Return to control mode by pressing [ESC] for 3 seconds.
- Set Data Lock Function: Prevents changes to set values and auto-tuning activation. Options: 0000 (No lock), 0001 (SV changeable), 0010/0011 (All data locked).
- Up Scale and Down Scale: The PV display flashes "---" for over-scale or "___" for under-scale if the process value exceeds the input range limits.
- Input Scale: For DCV input, this sets the input range (e.g., 1-5V DCV).
- Alarm Delay Time: Sets a delay for High and Low alarms to activate.
- Anti-reset Windup (ARW): Prevents over-integral action. Can be set to Auto (A=0) or a specific value.
- Select Set Value (KX4S only): Allows selection of Set value 1 or Set value 2 via external contact input.
CAUTION: If the values of [Input selection] and [Unit selection] are changed, all temperature parameters will be initialized. [Set value 1] and [Set value 2] must be set first.
CAUTION: If the values of [Input scale] are changed for DCV input, [Max. Input scale] and [Min. Input scale] will be initialized.
CAUTION: If the alarm type is changed in [Alarm type selection], the values of alarm hysteresis ([High alarm HYS], [Low alarm HYS]) will be changed.
General Precautions
- Before using the temperature controller, compensate for any temperature difference between the controller's PV and the actual temperature.
- The contents of this manual are subject to change without prior notice.
- Ensure the product specifications match your order and that the product is not damaged during shipping.
- Use the product within the specified ambient operating temperature (0 ~ 50 ℃) and humidity (35 ~ 85 % R.H., no condensation).
- Avoid locations with corrosive or flammable gases.
- Avoid places with direct vibration or significant physical impact.
- Avoid places with water, oil, chemicals, steam, dust, salt, or iron.
- Do not wipe the product with organic solvents; use a mild detergent.
- Avoid locations with excessive inductive interference, electrostatic, or magnetic noise.
- Avoid locations with heat accumulation due to direct sunlight or radiant heat.
- Use the product at elevations below 2,000 m.
- Inspect the product if exposed to water due to risk of electric leakage or fire.
- For thermocouple (TC) input, use prescribed compensation lead wire.
- For RTD input, use lead wires with small resistance, and ensure all 3 leads have the same resistance.
- Keep input signal wires away from power lines and load lines to avoid inductive noise.
- Separate input signal wires from output signal wires; use shielded wires for input signals if separation is not possible.
- For thermocouple (TC), use ungrounded sensors to prevent malfunction due to electric leakage.
- Consider installing an insulated transformer or noise filter if there is significant noise from the power line.
- Twisted pair wiring for product power lines can be effective against noise.
- Ensure alarm functions are properly set for correct product operation.
- Turn off the power when replacing the sensor.
- For high-frequency operations (e.g., proportional operation), use an auxiliary relay or SSR to prevent shortening the output relay's lifespan.
- Contact output life expectancy: Mechanical - 1 million times min. (without load); Electrical – 100 thousand times min. (250 V a.c 3A: with rated load).
- Do not connect anything to unused terminals.
- Connect wires properly, observing terminal polarity.
- Use a switch or breaker (IEC60947-1 or IEC60947-3 approved) when mounting the product on a panel.
- Install a switch or breaker near the operator for easy access.
- Put a nameplate indicating power is off when the switch/breaker is activated.
- Periodic maintenance is recommended for proper and safe product use.
- Some parts have a limited expected life span and may deteriorate with age.
- The warranty is 1 year for the product (including accessories) when used for its intended purpose under normal conditions.
- When power is supplied, allow preparation time for contact output; use a delay relay for interlock circuits.
- When replacing a unit, check for compatibility as settings may differ even with the same model name and code.
