VE.Bus to VE.Can Interface Manual
Note that for brevity, Multis and Quattros are called VE.Bus devices in this manual.
Product Status
This product is deprecated, and no longer required!
This interface was used in Hub-1 systems with grid-feedback enabled. It interfaced between the VE.Bus system and one or more MPPT solar chargers with a VE.Can connection, specifically the MPPT 150/70 and/or MPPT 150/85.
Since the release of CCGX v1.73, this interface is no longer necessary.
Old Information
Normally, solar chargers reduce their output power when the battery voltage reaches the absorption voltage. However, when the goal is to feedback excess power to the grid, the solar charger should continue to operate at its Maximum Power Point. This interface, when used with the Hub-1 Assistant, enables this functionality. The VE.Bus device instructs the solar charger to continue maximizing solar output, and any excess power available on the DC side is fed back by the VE.Bus device into the grid.
This is the sole purpose of this cable. In all other systems where feedback of DC-coupled PV power to the grid is not intended, this cable should not be used.
Installation and Configuration
To install the cable, connect it between the VE.Bus device and the solar charger(s). The VE.Can network is powered by the solar charger(s), so separate powering is not necessary. Similarly, the VE.Bus network is powered by the VE.Bus device.
If a Color Control GX (CCGX) is part of the system, do not connect the VE.Bus device to the CCGX's VE.Bus port. Instead, connect the CCGX's VE.Can port to the VE.Can network. The CCGX will then read information from both the VE.Bus device and the solar chargers via the VE.Can network.
Diagram Description: The diagram illustrates a system setup including a Public Grid, a Multi/Quattro VE.Bus device, an MPPT solar charger, Loads, and an optional Color Control GX. The VE.Bus to VE.Can interface connects the Multi/Quattro to the MPPT. The system also shows PV input to the MPPT and power flow to Loads and the grid.
Ensure the VE.Can network is terminated on both sides using the VE.Can terminators supplied with the CCGX and MPPT charger controllers, or purchase them separately.
Upon proper configuration, including the assistant in the VE.Bus device, the solar charger's display will show "HUB-1" to confirm correct operation.
Updating Interface Firmware
There are two methods to update the firmware for the VE.Bus to VE.Can interface:
- Use a CANUSB. Ensure the solar charger is switched on and connected to the same VE.Can network to power the interface during the update.
- Use a CCGX and perform a Remote firmware update.
Known Limitation
The Solar yield and Consumption tabs on the VRM Portal are not yet functional. A fix is planned, but a specific release date is unavailable.
