Use of another charger could result in irreparable dam age t o Quicklook Touch and will void the warranty. · Quicklook Touch should be st ored in t he " off" position when not in use. · Do not use Quicklook Touch in a bathroom, near water or other damp condit ions. · Do not open Quicklook - t here are no user serviceable part s inside and opening it will invalidate your warranty. · At t he end of it s life, Quicklook should be disposed of responsibly in accordance wit h local ordinances. Never dispose of the unit by fire. · I f the display is cracked, liquid crystal may leak. Do not allow the liquid into your eyes or m outh and wash your hands with soapy water. 2 I ntroduction Congrat ulat ions on t he purchase of your new Quicklook Touch m agnifier. Quicklook has been designed for sim ple and intuit ive use and will aid people with low vision to read and write. However you should consult with your eye care professional to determ ine the suitability of t his product in your particular case. We recom m end that you read this m anual carefully to obtain the best service from your new product . Plug t he pow er supply int o a wall socket and insert t he connect or int o Quicklook as shown in the diagram . 3 hrs The red light beside t he power connect or should illum inate indicating that the bat t ery is being charged. The light will go off when t he bat tery is substantially charged. I t t akes about three hours to charge the batt ery from a discharged st at e. Quicklook Touch can be used while the batt ery is being charged. 4 Wrist strap Charge input and indicator Focus & Fr eeze Mode Zoom up Zoom down Cam era Operation The Quicklook Touch is powered on by rotat ing the cam era to either of its operat ing positions. I t is powered off by 5 rotat ing the cam era back t o the closed p osit ion . T o u ch scr e e n The Quicklook Touch is equipped wit h a t ouch sensit ive screen. Tapping wit hin specific areas of the screen will operate m any of t he unit 's feat ures. Throughout t his m anual t he " TS" sym bol is TS used t o indicat e how a feat ure is operated using the touch screen. The diagram below shows t he zones on the screen used by the touchscreen. I n norm al use, only zones 1, 2 & 3 are available. Zones 1,2,4&5 operate with advanced m enu funct ions. 3 1 2 6 1 4 52 The t ouchscreen can be disabled in t he m enu described lat er in this m anual. Fo cu ssin g The Quicklook Touch has a push- t o- focus feature that m ust be used to obtain a sharp im age. Sim ply point t he cam era at what you wish to view and briefly press the Focus/ Freeze button and the unit will choose t he best focus for you. Whenever you change distance to t he obj ect you are viewing you will have to re-focus. TS Tapping Zone 3 will also act ivat e the autofocus. 7 There is a m et hod for m anual focussing that is discussed later. Reading Rot at e t he cam era ninety degrees to its first click position so that the cam era is looking downwards. Place t he unit on or slightly above the it em you wish to read. You will have to posit ion the cam era direct ly over the area of int erest. I n this respect Quicklook Touch differs from a m agnifying glass in that t he im age you see does not correspond to the area directly beneath. Quicklook Touch can be operat ed and viewed from any orientation. Ch a n gin g im a ge m ode Pressing t he M ode but t on ( refer t o t he diagram on page 5 ) on the side of the unit will cycle through the five im age m odes. 8 Colou r For general viewing N e ga t ive Enhanced reading m ode Posit ive Enhanced reading m ode Sem i- Enhanced reading m ode w it h colour false colours. I n ve r t e d Enhanced reading m ode w it h false colours reversed When using Quicklook Touch on different material, experiment with the different m odes to see which helps you to see best. Not e that all original colour is rem oved from the im age in the enhanced m odes. The colour opt ions used in t he sem i- colour m odes can be select ed. Refer t o t he " Reading Mode Menu" lat er in t his m anual. Freezing the im age To freeze t he im age, sim ply press and hold the Focus/ Freeze button on the side of the unit for about a second (refer to the diagram on page 5 ) . Pressing t his but t on again will ret urn t o t he live im age. This 9 function can be useful, for instance, when you wish to note a phone num ber and bring it t o t he phone for dialling. The m ode can be changed in a frozen im age but t he zoom buttons are disabled. TS Press and hold Zone 3 t o frezze t he im age. Tapping t he screen will return the unit to live image. Zoom ing To enlarge t he im age, press t he Zoom - up but ton; to reduce it, press the Zoom - down button. TS Tap Zone 1 t o zoom in; t ap Zone 2 to zoom out. W riting When you wish t o writ e wit h t he Quicklook Touch, rot at e t he cam era out fully t o it s second click position. While looking at t he display, find t he place on the page where you wish to write and place your pen in 10 the picture. As you are writ ing you should see what you are doing on t he Quicklook's d isp lay . At t he start, you m ay find that your handwriting varies in size from what you int ended. You should spend som e t im e pract icing on a sheet of lined paper to fam iliarize yourself with writ ing using Qu ick look . Turning off the cam era lights I f you wish to look at a backlit display (on a m obile phone or com put er display for instance), the cam era light s can reduce t he im age qualit y. You can t ur n t he cam era light s off by powering on t he Quicklook while holding in t he Mode 11 but t on. To t urn t he light s back on, sim ply turn the Quicklook off and back on again. Manual Focussing I t is possible t o m anually change t he focus on t he Quicklook Touch: sim ply power- on t he unit w hile holding t he Focus but t on and release when the im age is displayed. I n use, repeat ed pressing of t he Focus but ton will step through various focus set t ings and an icon on t he display will indicate the focus level chosen. To disable m anual focus m ode t he unit m ust be pow er ed- on w it h t he Focus but t on p r essed . Battery Level At start- up, the batt ery level is displayed in the corner of the screen for 10 seconds. You can choose t o display it const ant ly from t he Advanced Menu ( see below ) . The batt ery icon changes colour depending on the rem aining capacity and will display in blue if the unit is being recharged. When the battery has only a few minutes power 12 rem aining, the battery icon is briefly displayed in the centre of the display. Using the Menu The Quicklook Touch has a m enu syst em to allow you t o custom ize it to suit your requirem ent s. To bring up t he m enu, press and hold the Mode button for t hree seconds until an icon appears on t he screen. The cont ent s of t he m enu will change depending on the m ode you are in; t he Colou r M ode M e n u cont ains t hese op t ion s: and the Rea ding M ode Menu contains these options: Use Zoom - up and Zoom - down t o navigat e t hrough t he m enu choices and press Mode to accept the choice. 13 TS Alt ernat ively, t ap Zones 2 & 4 t o navigate and Zone 6 to accept. Press Focu s/ Fr e e ze t o cancel a choice and exit the m enu. The Adva nce d m e nu cont ains opt ions that are used only occasionally. Hold the Mode button in for 6 seconds to bring up this m enu ( ignore the icon that appears after 3 seconds it will be replaced with the Advanced m enu) . Tap Zone 1 t o access t he Advanced TS Menu when in t he Reading Mode Menu and press it again t o exit all m enus. The Advanced Menu cont ains t hese opt ions. Please not e t hat som e of t he icons will have a tick m ark or an X t hrough them . I f there is a tick is over t he icon, select ing it will enable t hat option; an X will disable the option. 14 TS When operat ing in t he m enu, the use of Zoom - up can be replaced with tapping Zone 2. Sim ilarly, Zone 4 for Zoom -down, Zone 6 for Mode and Zone 1 t o access t he advanced m enu or to exit. Th e Colou r M ode M e n u : Ba ck light - Use t he Zoom - up and Zoom -down buttons to adj ust the brightness of the display. Pr ess Mode t o accept the new sett ing. Br ight ness Use t he Zoom - up and Zoom -down buttons to adj ust the im age brightness. Press Mode t o accept t he new set t ing. Con t r a st As wit h bright ness above use the Zoom -up and Zoom -down buttons to adj ust 15 the contrast of the im age. Sa t ura t ion This cont rols t he richness of t he colour in t he im age. Ex it Exit t he m enu. The Reading Mode Menu: Ba ck light - Use t he Zoom - up and Zoom -down buttons to adj ust t he brightness of the display. Pr ess Mode t o accept the new sett ing. Colou r se le ct ion Here you can change the sem i-colours used in the reading m odes. The icon on the right will appear while selecting the colour s. Press t he Zoom - up but ton to change t he ink colour and the Zoom-down button to change t he paper colour. Pr ess 16 Mode t o accept your choice. Mode- button set- up: You can cust om ise t he Mode but ton so that only t he reading m odes you use are available. I f you only require the black and white reading m odes select t he first icon; choosing the last icon will allow only the sem i-colours; the centre icon will allow bot h black and whit e and sem i- colour options to be available. The Advanced Settings Menu: Ba t t e r y displa y You can display t he level of power remaining in the battery in the upper left of t he screen. Soun ds Use t his opt ion t o t urn the sounds on or off. 17 Aut o- off This opt ion w ill t urn the unit off aut om at ically after 5 m inutes of non-use. Touchscreen - Use t his opt ion to enable and disable the t ou ch scr een . The I nfo screen will display t he revision of t he software within the unit. Factory Defaults will return the unit to its original factory set t ings. Reset I f Quicklook st ops responding t o but t on presses it m ay need t o be reset . Using a pen or sim ilar instrum ent , press t he reset but ton recessed into the underside of the unit near the cam era. 18 Fitting the w rist strap Quicklook Touch is supplied w it h an opt ional wrist st rap. To fit t his, pass t he thin loop of the strap through the hoop on t he t op of t he unit . Pass t he ent ir e st rap through the thin loop and pull tight. M a in t e n a n ce Dirt and finger m arks on the screen should be cleaned with the lens cleaning cloth provided. I f Quicklook becom es dirt y it can be cleaned with a dam p cloth and m ild detergent. Never use any type of solvent or abrasive cleaning agent s. Do not im m erse Quicklook in wat er! 19 W arranty The Quicklook Touch has been fully t est ed prior t o shipping and should provide reliable service. Ash Technologies warrants the equipm ent, when purchased new, to be free from defects in m aterial and workm anship and will repair or replace at Ash Technologies' discret ion, any equipm ent which exhibit s such defect s, provided t hat t he equipm ent has been operated under the proper condit ions of installat ion. This warrant y does not cover: ( a) dam age from m isuse, use outside the norm al or custom ary m anner, accident or neglect; ( b) dam age caused by spills of food or drinks; ( c) dam age caused by tam pering, m odificat ion or repairs attem pted by persons not aut horized by Ash Technologies. The bat t ery is warrant ed for a period of one year. Cracks, scratches or sim ilar dam age to the display are specifically excluded from warranty. I n no event shall Ash Technologies, or it s agent s, be liable for special, indirect, incidental or consequential dam ages; the original user's rem edies being lim ited to repair or replacem ent.
