- Caution: Use protective gloves when removing/applying the dome, as the handle may become hot.
- Caution: Accessible parts may become very hot; use protective gloves.
- Keep young children away.

- Note: In windy conditions, use the dome as a wind shield, positioned as shown in Fig. 4 (description: dome placed at the back relative to wind direction).
- Do not modify the appliance; modifications can be dangerous.
- Warning: Do not store an unconnected cylinder within the appliance.
- Turn off gas supply at the gas cylinder after use.
Light Back
In case of light back (flame ignites inside burner/venturi), immediately turn off gas supply by closing the appliance valve and then the gas container valve. After flame extinguishes, remove regulator, check seal (replace if in doubt). Re-light as per Section 6. If light back persists, return to an authorised CADAC repair agent.
Leaks
If a gas leak is detected (smell of gas), immediately close the gas cylinder control knob. Check for leaks outside using soapy water on joints. Bubbles indicate a leak. Turn off gas supply at cylinder and appliance valve. Check connections. If leak persists, contact CADAC dealer.
Leak Check: Check tailpiece by valve and cylinder regulator fitting with gas open at cylinder, but appliance control knob off.

Flame Visibility Check: Check flame is burning using the visual slot on the BBQ grid or through grid slots. Place visual slot at the front for easy visibility.
5. Fitting and Changing the Hose and Gas Cylinder
- Note: When installing the tailpiece, hold it straight while tightening the nut to prevent leaks. Use a suitable spanner. (Fig. 10)
- Appliance Categories 13+(28-30/37), 3B/P (37), 3B/P (30): Fit valve tailpiece anti-clockwise. Push approved hose onto tailpiece until seated. Attach suitable low-pressure regulator to the other end of the hose. Ensure hose is well seated. Hose type must comply with relevant EN standard and local requirements. South African regulators must comply with SANS 1537.
- Appliance Category 3B/P (50): Screw hose with correct fittings onto the left-hand ¼” BSP thread of the Valve. Attach a suitable 50 mbar G30/G31 low-pressure regulator to the other end. Hose must comply with DIN 4815 part 2 or equivalent.
- Hose length: minimum 800mm, maximum 1.5m. Check manufacture date and replace as necessary or per regulations.
- Do not twist or pinch hose. Ensure hose does not contact hot surfaces.
- Before fitting regulator to gas container, ensure the seal is in position and good condition. Do this with every connection and before every use.
- Before fitting gas cylinder, ensure all valves are "OFF" (turn control knob clockwise to stop).
- Fit/change gas container in a well-ventilated location, preferably outdoors, away from ignition sources and people.
- Keep gas container upright. Screw regulator onto container until fully engaged. Hand-tighten only.
- If a leak is detected, close cylinder valve immediately and follow leak detection procedure in Section 3. Check joints with soapy water outside. Bubbles indicate a leak. If leak persists, contact CADAC dealer.
- When changing a gas container: close container valve (if fitted), turn control knob clockwise to stop. Ensure flame is extinguished, unscrew regulator. Refit full container following same precautions.
Diagram Description (Fig. 10): Shows the correct installation of the tailpiece onto the valve.
6. Lighting the Appliance
Precautions to observe before lighting:
- After prolonged storage, inspect air holes in valve cover and venturi inlet for insects. Refit components as prescribed.
- Use only on a firm, level surface.
Using the control knob:
The control knob has two positive stop positions: low and Ignite/High, limiting flame adjustment between these points.
Lighting up using the Piezo Igniter:
- Push in and turn control knob anti-clockwise until a click is heard.
- If gas does not ignite on the first spark, push in and turn control knob fully clockwise.
- Try again by pushing in and turning anti-clockwise until a click.
- If gas has not ignited within 2-3 seconds, close control valve (push in and turn clockwise). Wait approx. 30 seconds for gas to dissipate. Repeat if necessary. Flame should ignite within 1-2 seconds.
Lighting up using a BBQ lighter:
- For cold start: light from the top before fitting cooking surface.
- For hot appliance: insert BBQ lighter through a vent hole underneath the burner until aligned with the burner (do not use the large hole directly under the burner). Ignite lighter. Push in and turn control knob anti-clockwise to light burner.
General:
- Adjust flame intensity by turning valve knob anti-clockwise (reduce) or clockwise (increase).
- Fully closed position is the furthest clockwise. To move from closed, depress knob to disengage lock, then turn anti-clockwise. No need to keep depressed once unlocked.
- When cooking high-fat foods, flaring may occur if heat is too high. Reduce heat until flaring ceases.
- Do not move the appliance while lit, as it may cause flaring.
- After use, close gas container valve (if fitted). Once flame is extinguished, close appliance valve by pushing in and turning control knob fully clockwise.

8. General Maintenance
Maintenance is the consumer's responsibility. This appliance does not require scheduled maintenance.
Replacing a Blocked Jet:
- The Citi Chef is fitted with a specific jet to regulate gas flow. A blocked jet can result in a small or no flame.
- Do not attempt to clean the jet with a pin or similar device, as this may damage the orifice and make the appliance unsafe.
- Procedure to replace jet:
- Pull out the back panel using the handle (Fig. 20).
- Remove the dome, BBQ grid, pot stand, and any other loose items.
- Unscrew the 3 screws from underneath the appliance (Fig. 21) to loosen the burner.
- Gently lift out the burner (Fig. 22), noting it is attached to the piezo ignition wire. Do not yank the burner to avoid snapping the wire.
- Lay the burner aside to reveal the jet (Fig. 23).
- Remove the jet using a suitable spanner. Do not use pliers, as this may damage or make the jet unusable/difficult to remove.
- Screw the new jet into the valve. Do not over-tighten.
- Reverse the procedure to re-assemble.

Replacing the Hose:
Refer to Section 5 - Fitting and Changing the Hose and Gas Cylinder.
9. Cleaning
- Note: For Parts Reference, see Section 7.
- BBQ: Remove fat from the Fat Pan moat. Wash grid in warm water with non-abrasive detergent after wiping excess fat.
- BBQ Lid: Wash lid in warm water with suitable non-abrasive detergent. Do not use sharp metal objects or abrasive detergents, as this will damage the surface coating.
- Note: Oven cleaner may be used for stubborn stains.
Care of Ceramic Non-Stick Cooking Surfaces:
- Ceramic non-stick surfaces are coated for healthy, easy cooking.
- Use low or medium heat settings to retain nutrients and maintain the coating.
- Metal cooking utensils can damage the ceramic coating.
- Important: Use only plastic or wooden utensils.
- Do not overheat surfaces; add a little cooking oil before use.
- Allow surfaces to cool before immersing in water.
- Dishwasher safe, but hand-washing is easy. Avoid abrasive detergents, as they will permanently damage the surface.
- After cleaning, recondition the surface with a light wipe of vegetable oil.
- After each use, remove fat from the fat pan and clean as described for the BBQ.
10. Storing and Carrying
- BBQ Lid fits on the rear of the bag with provided support straps.
- If the appliance operates abnormally after storage and checks in Sections 5 & 8 do not resolve the issue, the Venturi may be blocked.
- A blocked Venturi causes a weaker, yellowish flame or no flame.
- To clear a blocked Venturi: remove the burner as described in Section 8, and thoroughly clean out any foreign matter from the venturi.
