HP Access Control Secure Authentication
Safeguarding Healthcare Information at the Point of Care
Brief
HP Access Control Secure Authentication helps safeguard healthcare information at the point of care and extends security protocols to printed material.
Addressing Healthcare Challenges
Healthcare organizations face the challenge of protecting and controlling patient information print and distribution. A solution is needed that increases security without complex implementation that staff and clinicians resist. HP Access Control Secure Authentication provides clinical care teams with a secure and flexible way to access devices and print jobs, helping meet compliance regulations and privacy mandates at the point of care. It also helps restore control and reduce costs associated with imaging and printing resources.
The solution helps protect patient information passing through networked imaging and printing devices with robust authentication features that integrate with existing network credentials, including LDAP and Active Directory. It increases document security by requiring user authentication at the device.
Key Capabilities
- Enhance security of networked printers and MFPs by easily authenticating devices and users.
- Provide a single authentication solution supporting a wide variety of proximity card protocols.
- Offer mobile or remote clinical care workers the ability to access print wherever needed within the healthcare ecosystem.
- Reduce IT support costs while enabling 7x24 hour availability.
- Support organizational security and privacy policies.
Solution at a Glance
HP Access Control Secure Authentication enables healthcare organizations to prevent sensitive documents from going unclaimed and unauthorized use of devices. It provides local, mobile, and remote users with convenient authentication options to print virtually wherever and whenever healthcare happens. Securing imaging and printing devices becomes seamless with options like HP proximity card readers, alpha-numeric personal identification codes (PIC), personal identification number codes (PIN), and smartcards. It helps bring devices up to organization security standards, reduce costs, and meet environmental goals by eliminating unwarranted device use.
When deployed through an HP Managed Print Services agreement, the solution supports HP single-function printers, MFPs, and networked scanners, as well as selected imaging and printing devices from Canon, Lexmark, Ricoh, and Xerox, allowing integration with existing assets.
Solution Features
Easy Authentication
Authenticate with ease directly at the device using a single solution. HP proximity card readers simplify logins, and can be programmed to read two proximity card protocols simultaneously. Users can also authenticate using PIC codes, PIN codes, and smartcards. The system supports up to a million users and allows definition of which functions require authentication.
Secure Print Jobs and Devices
Use HP Access Control Secure Authentication with HP Access Control Intelligent Rights Management to set restrictions on devices and functionality, limiting access to authorized users. Combine secure authentication with HP Access Control Secure Pull Printing for easy retrieval of jobs stored on a network server or user's PC. Mobile and remote employees can authenticate and release output using HP Access Control Mobile Release. Authentication applies to fax, email, copy, print jobs, and many other MFP functions.
Visual Description: MFP Interaction
The main visual depicts a smartphone being used in conjunction with a large touchscreen Multi-Function Printer (MFP). The MFP screen displays various options including opening from USB, sending documents, saving to device memory, network address, and sign-in prompts. The smartphone screen shows icons for common printing and scanning functions. This illustrates the point-of-care interaction for secure document access and printing.
HP at Work: Case Study
A health sciences company faced challenges with a resource-intensive printing and imaging environment, including user reluctance to change and concerns about confidentiality. HP Access Control Secure Authentication addressed these needs by enabling employees to retrieve their specific print job via a simple PIN code, ensuring document confidentiality and increasing efficiencies. This led to a consolidation of approximately 500 devices down to 100, while meeting security needs and company-wide print policies.
