Scosche GM3000SW-WM1: GM LAN Stereo Replacement Interface with Chime and Steering Wheel Control Retention
Product Overview
The Scosche GM3000SW-WM1 is a replacement interface designed for select GM vehicles equipped with GM LAN radios. It allows you to replace your factory stereo while retaining essential safety and warning chimes, as well as steering wheel audio controls (if equipped). The interface ensures your vehicle's electronics control module (ECM) functions normally and provides a +12V accessory power source for your new aftermarket stereo.
Why You Need This Part
Your factory stereo is integrated into your vehicle's safety and warning systems. Removing it without a proper installation accessory can lead to the loss of critical functions such as:
- Seatbelt warning chime
- Lights left on chime
- Key left in ignition chime
- Low fuel warning
- Park assist (if equipped)
- Retained Accessory Power (RAP)
- Steering wheel audio controls (if equipped)
Additionally, operating the vehicle's ECM without the factory radio may store error codes, potentially causing issues during servicing. The GM3000SW-WM1 prevents these problems by maintaining these functions and sending correct data commands to the ECM.
❗ IMPORTANT!
CAUTION: Disconnect the negative battery terminal before installation to avoid short circuits. Always use a volt-ohm meter or computer-safe LED probe when checking wiring. Avoid using test lights, as they can damage the vehicle's computer or diagnostic system.

"Standard" BOSE and “Premium” BOSE Systems
Many GM models listed may be equipped with either a "Standard" BOSE or a "Premium" BOSE system. The GM3000SW-WM1 is compatible with "Standard" BOSE systems and will provide full features. It is NOT compatible with "Premium" BOSE systems.
Tips to identify a "Premium" BOSE system:
- Look for a CENTER CHANNEL Speaker located in the middle of the vehicle dashboard.
- Premium BOSE radios often provide Digital Signal Processing (DSP) for surround sound audio adjustments.
- Check the glove compartment for the radio code (e.g., Y91/Z75) on a service parts sticker.
If you are re-wiring the vehicle and bypassing the "Premium" Bose Amplifier, the GM3000SW-WM1 can be used to retain FACTORY Warning chimes.
Scosche offers alternate products to integrate or retain OnStar and "Premium" Bose systems. For more information, contact Scosche at (800) 363-4490 x3.
Wiring Instructions
- Disconnect the Negative battery cable from the battery to avoid any short circuits.
- Remove and unplug the factory stereo. (Consult your vehicle's manual or Scosche Tech Support at (800) 363-4490 x3 for specific removal steps).
- Identify and connect the appropriate wires from the harness to the corresponding wires of the plug provided with your stereo. Match wire colors where possible, or refer to your stereo's manual for specific connections (e.g., connect the +12V yellow constant lead from your stereo to the yellow wire of the GM3000SW-WM1 harness).
- Note that the RED +12V switched wire for your aftermarket stereo comes from the relay, not directly from the vehicle harness.
- Tape all unused wires securely to prevent short circuiting.
- Reconnect the Negative battery cable.
- Connect the 16-Pin harness to the interface module.
- Connect Harness A or B to the factory harness.
- Install the interface module in the rear of the dash cavity behind the stereo. (Optional: Use cable ties or double-sided tape for securing, not included).
Wiring Notes:
- There are pre-connected yellow, black, and violet wires between the module's connector and the vehicle's harness connector (A or B). These are for the module's power and data; DO NOT make any connections with these wires.
- If your stereo does not have an "illumination" wire, the orange wire will not be used. Tape or terminate all unused wires to prevent short circuits.
- "Illumination" outputs are rated at a maximum of 2 amperes. They are designed for aftermarket stereos requiring an "illumination" connection. Do not use these outputs for high-demand accessories like aftermarket gauges or trailer lights.
- Auto illumination is limited to GM LAN vehicles equipped with auto-sensing headlights. Refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for details.
Wiring Color Codes
Most color codes used in this car stereo connector conform to EIA (Electronics Industry Association) standards. However, they may differ from your car stereo's specific wiring codes. Always refer to your stereo owner's manual for detailed wiring information.

Steering Wheel Controls
To retain steering wheel control functions, ensure your vehicle has them and your new aftermarket stereo is compatible. Consult your stereo's installation manual or check for a "SWC" or "SWC In" input on the back of the unit (often a 3.5mm jack or a specific wire color like Blue/Yellow stripe).
Steering Wheel Button Functions (Example Legends):
Legend 1: VOL UP, VOL DOWN, SEEK UP/PRESET UP, SEEK DN/PRESET DN, MUTE, SOURCE, PRESET/BAND
Legend 2: VOL UP, VOL DOWN, SEEK UP/TRACK UP, SEEK DOWN/TRACK DOWN, MUTE
Wiring Preparation:
- Refer to the chart on page 11 to prepare the Steering Wheel Control harness by cutting the specified colored loops.
- Connect the 3.5mm male jack to the stereo's SWC input, or connect the Brown (KEY1), Gray (KEY2), or Black (GND) wires to the corresponding connection for your particular stereo. If your brand is not listed, contact Scosche Tech Support at (800) 363-4490 x3.
- Connect the male 14-Pin connector to the interface module as shown in the diagram.
Note: Steering wheel control buttons and functions are provided as a guide. Your specific vehicle may differ.

- Seatbelt warning chime
- Key left in ignition chime
- Lights left on chime
- Low fuel warning
- Park assist (if equipped)
- Service reminders/warnings displayed on instrument cluster
