KONNWEI KW600 Car Battery Tester User's Manual

1. Product Summary

1.1 Product Profile

The KONNWEI KW600 Battery Tester utilizes state-of-the-art conductance testing technology to easily, quickly, and accurately measure the actual cold cranking amps (CCA) capability of a vehicle's starting battery. It assesses the battery's health and identifies common faults in the vehicle's starting and charging systems, assisting maintenance personnel in diagnosing and resolving issues for quick vehicle repair.

1.2 Product Function

The KW600 battery tester offers several functions: battery test, cranking test, charging test, and other additional functions. The primary focus is the battery test, which analyzes the battery's healthy status to calculate its actual cold cranking capability and aging extent. This provides reliable analysis for battery testing and maintenance, potentially notifying the user to replace the battery in advance if it is aging.

The cranking test analyzes the starting motor by measuring the required cranking current and voltage to determine if the motor is functioning correctly. It helps identify issues like increased starting loaded torque or rotor friction. The charging test checks the charging system, including the generator, rectifier, and rectifier diode, to ensure the output voltage is normal. Abnormalities can lead to overcharging or incomplete charging, damaging the battery and affecting other electrical appliances.

3. Use the UP/DOWN keys to input the rated battery capacity (e.g., XX AH). For a 12V vehicle, the battery capacity is generally above 30AH.

4. Press ENTER. The testing result will be one of the following five types:

Attention: If a "Replace" result occurs in IN-VEHICLE mode, it might be due to a poor connection between the vehicle cable and the battery. Ensure the cable is securely connected and retest the battery in OUT-OF-VEHICLE mode before making a replacement decision.

NOTE: After testing, press EXIT to directly return to the startup interface.

3.2 Battery Test in vehicle

When surface charge is detected, the tester prompts "Surface charge, turn lights on". Turn on the lights as prompted to eliminate battery surface charge. The tester will then display messages in sequence. Once the surface charge is eliminated, turn off the lights as prompted, then press ENTER to initiate the automatic test.

Select Battery Type

DIN100-1400
IEC100-1400
EN100-2000
SAE100-2000
GB100-1400

Input the correct test standard and rating, then press ENTER. The tester starts to test, and a dynamic interface prompts "Under measurement ...".

It takes approximately 1 second to display the battery test result. The results are categorized as:

3.3 Battery out of vehicle test

OUT-OF-VEHICLE means the battery is not connected to any vehicle load; its connection is cut off.

From the startup screen, or by pressing the EXIT button, enter the Main Menu. Press UP/DOWN keys to select the battery location (in vehicle or out of vehicle) and press ENTER to confirm.

Follow the same steps as for 'Battery Test in vehicle' for selecting Battery Type and Battery System Standard and Rating.

3.4 Waveform

From the startup screen, or by pressing the EXIT button, enter the Main Menu. Press UP/DOWN to select the [Waveform] function and press ENTER. The screen will display the waveform interface.

The waveform graph plots voltage (Unit V) against time. The Y-axis ranges from 3.0V to 18.0V. Key readings displayed are CUR (Current Voltage) 13.0, MAX (Maximum Voltage during Ignition) 13.0, and MIN (Minimum Voltage during Ignition) 8.5.

The waveform remains static until voltage changes are detected. It displays various vehicle voltage analyses.

Graph Description: The graph shows a 'Discharge Voltage' around 12V (Before Ignition), a 'Starting Voltage' drop to around 7.5-9.5V (Ignition voltage), and a 'Charging Voltage' around 14V (Alternator Charging Voltage).

Discharge Voltage: When the ignition is OFF and the engine is OFF (over 20 minutes), the discharge voltage should be around 12V. If it's lower than 11V, it will be difficult to start the ignition. If it stays under 11V, the battery is aging and needs replacement.

Starting Voltage: During ignition, the voltage drops to a minimum point (around 7.5-9.5V). If the starting voltage continuously stays under 7.5V, the battery capacity is low and needs replacement.

Charging Voltage: When the ignition and engine are ON, the alternator charges the battery, typically around 14V.

Battery Status corresponding with Battery Voltage (Before Ignition)

Battery Voltage Battery Status Effects and Measures
<10.8VToo LowHard to start vehicles; replace battery
10.8V-11.8VSlightly LowHard to start vehicles;

Battery Status corresponding with Battery Voltage (After Ignition)
