Care & Maintenance
Cambridge Casual collections are meticulously crafted by artisans using sustainably harvested wood, cultivated under rigorous governmental regulations to promote sustainability and legal trade practices.
While designed to withstand the elements, normal wear and tear will reflect use and care. To maintain your pieces, please follow these recommendations:
General Outdoor Care
- Regular cleaning is important.
- Use furniture covers or move to covered storage during heavy rain, winter, or inclement weather.
- Ensure furniture and cushions are clean and dry before covering or storing.
- Remove wet cushions from the frame and air dry to prevent mold and mildew.
- Avoid storing furniture near central heating or cooling vents to prevent excessive drying.
- Do not let liquids stand on furniture or cushions.
- Do not place hot items directly on furniture surfaces.
- Use a padded barrier when writing on furniture surfaces.
- Avoid placing furniture in puddles or on wet ground.
Unfinished Natural / Finely Sanded Teak
Characteristics
- Unique graining and color variations are natural.
- Small splits, knots, and joint lines contribute to character and do not affect quality.
- Natural teak develops a silver-gray patina; teak sealer or oil can maintain the original honey brown color.
- Teak expands and contracts with climate changes, potentially causing hairline cracks in joints or grain, which do not compromise structural integrity.
- Surface mildew may form but does not impact wood durability and can be removed with cleaning.
Care & Maintenance
- Clean teak furniture with warm water and mild dish soap, scrubbing gently with the grain. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry.
- For tougher stains, use a mixture of 1 cup chlorine bleach, 1 cup laundry detergent, and 1 gallon of water. Apply with a non-metallic, soft-bristle brush, let sit for 5-10 minutes (longer for stubborn stains), and rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Always start with a milder cleaning solution; try stronger concentrations or store-bought teak cleaners if needed.
- Lightly sand affected areas with fine 120-grit sandpaper to remove remaining stains.
Weathered Teak
The weathered teak finish is hand-applied and will fade and wear when exposed to outdoor elements. As the finish wears, the natural teak wood will be exposed and turn gray. This weathering process is accelerated by untreated or uncovered furniture. To preserve the finish, move furniture to covered storage or use a furniture cover during extreme weather or winter seasons.
Spa Collection Teak
Water and stain guard is applied. Maintain with solvent-based polyurethane protective coating every six (6) months, or as recommended by the manufacturer. For daily maintenance, clean with mild detergent and a clean cloth. Avoid chemical solvents.
Painted Hardwood
Clean with water-based mild detergent using a clean cloth every six (6) months. Avoid chemical solvents. Color/finish may fade with exposure to sunlight and rain. Store indoors or use a furniture cover during extreme weather.
Cushions
Fabrics are breathable, water-resistant but not waterproof. Remove and store in a dry place when not in use or during inclement weather. If cushions get soaked, remove and air dry them with zippers unzipped and facing down to ensure proper drainage. Periodically rotate cushions and inserts to distribute wear and prevent loss of shape.
Clean periodically by dusting with a soft, dry cloth. Wipe spills immediately and spot clean stains. Removable cushion covers can be machine-washed in cold water with mild laundry soap and air-dried.
Synthetic Rattan, Woven Polyrope, & Textilene
Dust periodically with a soft, dry cloth. Use a non-metallic, soft bristle brush for loose dirt. For spot cleaning, hose off debris and dry with a soft cloth. For thorough cleaning, use a mixture of mild soap and water with a non-metallic, soft-bristle brush. Do not use abrasive cleaners. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.
