Electrical Information
Grounding Instructions
Grounding reduces the risk of electric shock by providing a path of least resistance. This tool has an equipment grounding conductor and a grounding plug. It MUST be plugged into a properly installed and grounded outlet according to local codes.
DO NOT MODIFY THE PLUG. If it doesn't fit, have a licensed electrician install a proper outlet.
Improper connection of the grounding conductor can cause electric shock. The green insulated conductor is the grounding conductor. Never connect it to a live terminal.
Consult a licensed electrician if you are unsure about grounding.
Use only three-wire extension cords with three-pronged plugs and outlets. Repair or replace damaged cords immediately.
⚠️ WARNING: This tool is for indoor use only. Do not expose to rain or use in damp locations.
Extension Cord Guidelines
Use an extension cord heavy enough to carry the product's current. An undersized cord causes voltage drop, loss of power, and overheating. The table below shows recommended gauge sizes:
Amperage | 25 ft. | 50 ft. | 100 ft. | 150 ft. |
---|---|---|---|---|
2.3A | 18 gauge | 16 gauge | 16 gauge | 14 gauge |
Extension Cord Use:
- Examine extension cords for proper wiring and condition. Replace or repair damaged cords.
- Do not pull on the cord to disconnect; pull the plug. Disconnect the extension cord from the product before disconnecting the product from the cord. Protect cords from sharp objects, heat, and moisture.
- Use a separate electrical circuit (at least 12-gauge wire) protected by a 15A time-delayed fuse. Ensure the switch is OFF before connecting to power and that the current rating matches the motor nameplate. Running at lower voltage can damage the motor.
Know Your Belt/Disc Sander
Tool Purpose
Belt and disc sanders shape and finish wood and other materials by smoothing surfaces quickly and evenly. Refer to the diagram below for parts and controls.
Diagram Description: The sander features an upper guard assembly, a sanding belt on rollers, a belt table with a locking lever and bevel scale, a power switch, an adjusting shaft guard, and a belt tracking adjustment knob. On the disc side, there is a sanding disc, a disc table, a miter gauge, and a disc dust port.
Cleaning the Work Table Surface
The work table has an anti-rust coating. Clean with a soft cloth moistened with kerosene. Do not use gasoline, paint thinner, or lacquer thinner, as these can damage painted surfaces. Apply a light coat of paste wax to prevent rust after cleaning. Wipe all parts with a clean, dry cloth.

Note: The lever is spring-loaded and can be repositioned. Ensure the table is securely locked before sanding.
Dust Collection
For optimal dust removal, the sander has two dust ports (belt and disc).
- To connect the sanding belt dust port adapter: Insert the adapter into the dust port on the left side of the sander.
- To connect the sanding disc dust port: Align the 3 holes on the disc dust port with the holes on the right side of the sander below the disc. Secure with the included 3 washers and screws.
- To connect a dust collection system: Fit a 1.5-inch dust hose over the onboard dust port (belt or disc) and secure with a hose clamp if needed. Alternatively, use the included adapter for a 2-1/4-inch dust hose. Ensure a tight fit. Connect the other end to your dust collection system.
Note: Failure to use a dust collection system will void the warranty.
Install Sanding Disc Table
- Hold the disc table at a 45° upward angle. Align the inner extrusions with the slots on either side of the sanding disc. Slide inwards then upwards.
- Align the locking knobs with the holes on either side of the sanding disc and turn clockwise to secure the table.
Upper Guard
Install the upper guard onto the belt sanding arm using the upper guard locking knob.
Belt Tracking
Belt tracking adjusts the belt to run true in the center of the rollers.
To adjust belt tracking:
- Remove the upper guard locking knob and upper guard.
- Remove the side cover by taking out its screws and washers.
- Rotate the sanding disc by hand to slowly rotate the belt. Observe if the belt moves left or right.
- If the belt wanders, use the belt tracking adjustment knob to adjust the roller angle. Keep rotating the disc while turning the knob until the belt centers.
- Re-install the side cover, upper guard, and locking knob. Connect power and briefly turn the sander ON/OFF to verify tracking. Repeat if necessary.
Squaring the Table
For best results, ensure tables are square (90°) to the belt and disc surfaces.
- Ensure the switch is OFF and the cord is disconnected.
- Loosen the locking knobs for the disc table or the locking lever for the belt table. Place a square on the table and adjust until it is square with the belt and disc. Retighten the knobs/lever.
Testing the Machine
After assembly, perform a test run to ensure everything powers up and runs correctly. Remove all tools before turning on. Check that the ON/OFF switch and safety features work properly.
Stand to the side, connect to power, and turn the machine ON. Listen for unusual noises or vibrations. If any occur, turn OFF immediately, unplug, and check assembled parts to find the problem.
Belt Sander Platen
The platen is a steel support plate behind the sanding belt. It should be adjusted to be almost touching the back of the sanding belt.
To adjust the platen:
- Ensure the switch is OFF and the cord is disconnected.
- Remove the locking lever and belt table to access the platen's hex screws.
- Loosen the two hex screws securing the platen. Adjust the platen to almost touch the belt's back. Re-tighten the hex screws.
Operation
ON/OFF Switch
- To start: Push the switch to the ON position.
- To stop: Push the switch to the OFF position.
Surface Sanding on the Belt
Hold the workpiece firmly with both hands, keeping fingers away from the sanding belt. Keep the workpiece flat against the belt table and move it slowly across the belt. Apply enough pressure to remove material; excessive pressure reduces efficiency.
⚠️ WARNING: Use extra caution with thin pieces and apply only enough pressure for material removal.
End Sanding and Outside Curve Sanding on the Disc
Use for sanding small, narrow workpieces and curved edges. Always work on the left side of the disc (downward rotation side), holding the workpiece firmly with light pressure.
⚠️ WARNING: Familiarize yourself with the rotation of the belt and disc sanding surfaces to avoid injury.
The disc rotates counterclockwise. Always use the left side of the disc (downward rotation); using the right side can cause kickback or injury.
Miter Gauge - Disc Sander
The miter gauge can be set up to 45° (right or left) by loosening the knob, setting the angle, and retightening. It is recommended for sanding small end surfaces on the disc.
Note: Move the workpiece from the center to the left side of the disc, holding it down firmly onto the table.
Maintenance
⚠️ WARNING: Turn OFF and unplug the tool before cleaning, adjusting, or performing maintenance.
⚠️ WARNING: Repair or replacement of electrical parts is hazardous. Service must be performed by a qualified technician using identical WEN replacement parts.
