General Information and Important Advice
General Instructions (Fitting):
- Before starting, inspect the tow bar for any transport damage and ensure it is the correct reference for the vehicle.
- Read and follow all fitting instructions precisely.
- Present the tow bar under the vehicle to check alignment before proceeding with installation.
- If drilling is required, carefully check for and avoid damaging any existing wires, brake lines, or other cables.
- Remove any soundproofing or bitumen layers from drilled areas.
- Treat drilled holes and bodywork with an anti-corrosive product.
- If the vehicle is equipped with non-standard bumpers (e.g., special series, sport, tuning parts), consult GDW technical service to confirm compatibility.
- The tow bar supplied is assembled for storage; disassemble parts before installation.
Guarantee:
- To determine the maximum towing weight for your vehicle, refer to the Certificate of Conformity (COC) or contact your dealer. Do not exceed the tow bar's specifications.
- The tow bar requires inspection after the first 1,000 km of use and at least annually thereafter. This includes:
- Checking and retightening all bolts as necessary.
- Repairing any paint damage.
- Replacing any components damaged by external forces or accidents.
- Greasing the internal parts of detachable tow bar systems.
Usage:
- If the towing ball obstructs the license plate or fog light, it must be removed when not in use.
Technical Specifications
Towing Capacity Formulas:
- D-Value: D = (max kg * max kg) / max kg * 0.00981 ≤ 6.00kN
- S-Value: S = max kg + max kg = 65 kg = 900 kg

Installation Steps
The following steps detail the installation process. Refer to the part numbers listed on page 7 and the diagrams for visual guidance.
Preparation & Disassembly:
- Step 1: Access the rear of the vehicle. The diagrams show the trunk open. Tools required: PZ2 screwdriver.
- Step 2: Remove rear trim panels and components. Tools required: TX15 screwdriver. Arrows indicate removal direction.
- Step 3: Continue removing trim or bumper components to access mounting points.
- Step 4: Access vehicle chassis mounting points, potentially involving clips or fasteners.
- Step 5: Loosen or remove specific bumper components. Tool required: TX15 screwdriver.
- Step 6: The rear bumper is shown being removed or detached.
- Step 7: Access the vehicle's chassis mounting points. Tool required: 13mm socket/wrench.
Mounting the Tow Bar Frame:
- Step 8: Attach initial brackets (e.g., part 9) to the vehicle chassis using appropriate fasteners.
- Step 9: Attach further mounting components and brackets (e.g., parts 2, 3, 4) to the chassis.
- Step 10: Position and attach the main tow bar frame (part 1) to the chassis brackets. Use bolts (10, 11, 12) and nuts (13). Ensure correct orientation.
- Step 11: Secure the tow bar frame firmly to the chassis using bolts (10, 11, 12) and nuts (13).
- Step 12: Final tightening of the main tow bar frame components.
Attaching Tow Ball Carrier and Brackets:
- Step 13: Attach bracket (part 4) to the tow bar frame using bolts (6, 7, 8) and nuts (13). Torque specification: 27.3 Nm.
- Step 14: Attach bracket (part 5) to the tow bar frame using bolts (8, 7, 6) and nuts (13). Torque specification: 27.3 Nm.
- Step 15: Secure components with bolts (17) and nuts. Torque specification: 54.0 Nm.
- Step 16: Final tightening of components with bolts (17) and nuts. Torque specification: 54.0 Nm.
Installing the Tow Ball:
- Step 17: Attach the towing ball mechanism (part A) to the tow bar carrier.
- Step 18: Use specific components: GDW REF. 900.008 (a), GDW REF. 900.011 (b), DIN931-M12x70 (c), DIN985-M12 (d). Torque specification: 93.0 Nm.
- Step 19: Alternatively, use components: 944.M004 (a), DIN931-M12x70 (b), DIN985-M12 (c), GDW REF. 900.053 (S). Torque specification: 93.0 Nm.
Bumper Modification and Reinstallation
- Step 20: Modify or cut the bumper as indicated to accommodate the tow ball and ensure clearance. Note dimensions: R32.5, 110mm, 80mm, 35mm.
- Step 21: Reinstall the bumper components.
Options and Regulatory Compliance
AFN Options: Various towing ball types or configurations are available.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure clearance according to Annex VII, diagram 25 (a,b) of regulation nr. 55. Observe the vehicle's permissible total weight for towing.
