Safety Warnings

Riding an electric motor bike presents potential risks and requires caution. Like any riding product, it has inherent hazards such as falling off or riding into a dangerous situation. Riders can be seriously injured or die even when using safety equipment. Ride at your own risk and use common sense.

Parental and Adult Responsibility and Supervision Necessary: This manual contains important safety information. It is your responsibility to review this information and ensure that all riders understand all warnings, cautions, instructions, and safety topics. Ensure that young riders can safely and responsibly use these products. Razor recommends periodically reviewing and reinforcing this information with younger riders and inspecting and maintaining the product to ensure safety.

Age and Weight Restrictions:

These recommendations reflect expected maturity, skills, and physical size. Always ensure a rider can fit comfortably on the product. Parental decisions should be based on the child's maturity, skill, and ability to follow rules. Do not disregard Razor's recommendations or permit younger children to ride.

Acceptable Riding Practices and Conditions:

Proper Riding Attire: Always wear proper protective equipment: an approved safety helmet (chin strap securely buckled), elbow pads, and kneepads. A long-sleeved shirt, long pants, and gloves are recommended. Always wear athletic shoes (lace-up with rubber soles) with tied shoelaces kept away from moving parts. Never ride barefooted or in sandals.

Using the Charger:

FAILURE TO USE COMMON SENSE AND HEED WARNINGS INCREASES RISK OF SERIOUS INJURY. USE WITH APPROPRIATE CAUTION AND SERIOUS ATTENTION TO SAFE OPERATION.

Before You Begin

Remove contents from the box, including separators that protect components during shipping. Inspect for scratches, dents, or kinked cables. The motor bike is 95% assembled.

MAKE SURE POWER SWITCH IS TURNED "OFF" BEFORE CONDUCTING ANY ASSEMBLY OR MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES.

Estimated Assembly and Set-Up Time: Assembly by an adult with bicycle mechanics experience is recommended. Allow up to 30 minutes for assembly (not including initial charge time). Allow up to 12 hours for charging.

  4. SX500 Model: Tighten front wheel with a 17 mm and 19 mm wrench.

Inflating the Tires

Tires lose some pressure during shipping. Inflate to the correct PSI indicated on the sidewall.

WARNING: Do not over inflate, as this could damage the tire or wheel.

Use a bicycle-style tire pump. If using an air supply from a gasoline station, ensure the pressure gauge is working and use very short bursts to inflate to the correct PSI. Release excess pressure immediately if over-inflated.

Charging the Battery

Your electric motor bike may not have a fully charged battery; charge it prior to use.

Charging Procedure:

  1. Plug the charger into a wall outlet. The charger light should be green. If not, try a different outlet.
  2. Ensure the power switch is OFF. Plug the charger into the charger port. The charger light should turn red during charging and green when complete.

WARNING: Use ONLY the recommended charger. Batteries are to be charged under adult supervision. The charger is not a toy. Always disconnect the charger before cleaning the motor bike.

Charger Examination: Regularly examine the charger for damage. If damaged, do not charge until repaired or replaced.

Charger Warmth: It is normal for the charger to get warm during use.

WARNING: Failure to recharge the battery at least once a month may result in a battery that will no longer accept a charge.

Pre-Ride Checklist

Repair and Maintenance

Turn power switch "OFF" before beginning repair or maintenance.

Adjusting the Brakes

Tools required: 5 mm Allen wrench

  1. To adjust brake cable play, thread the brake lever adjuster in or out 1/4 to 1/2 turn until desired adjustment is attained.
  2. If the brake has too much slack, loosen the rear anchor bolt with a 5 mm Allen wrench and pull the brake wire tighter. The distance of the brake wire between the end of the cable and the anchor bolt should be between 37 mm and 44 mm.
  3. If the brake rotor is dragging on the brake pads, use fingers to twist the caliper adjuster in either direction until the rotor is centered between the pads.

WARNING: The brake can cause the motor bike to skid, throwing the rider. Practice in an open area to become familiar with brake function. Avoid skidding to a stop.

Testing the Brakes: Squeeze levers to increase pressure on the brake. Levers have a cable adjuster for cable stretch and fine-tuning lever movement. If brakes are not engaging properly, follow adjustment instructions.

Replacing the Fuse

WARNING: To prevent shock, follow instructions carefully.

  1. Remove the seat fairing and battery cover to locate the 3 fuse boxes attached to the batteries.
  2. Check all 3 fuses. Remove any damaged or burnt-out fuse and replace with a new one of equal amperage. Note: Amperage is located on top of the fuse.
  3. Close the fuse cover and reattach the seat fairing.

Replacing the Chain and Tire

Tools required: Phillips screwdriver and two (2) 19 mm wrenches.

  1. Loosen screws and remove chain guard.
  2. Using two 19 mm wrenches, loosen both axle nuts.
  3. Push the chain tensioner down to loosen the chain and remove the chain from the wheel sprocket and motor sprocket. Push and remove the wheel downward. Note: Your hands will get greasy.
  4. Install the new chain or wheel by slipping the chain around the axle. Slide the axle into the slots on the frame. Slide the chain tensioner down and maneuver the chain onto the rear sprocket and motor sprocket.
  5. Reattach the chain guard. Test ride and check. Readjust as needed.

Hardware Sequence:

Spoke Tension

  1. Verify spoke tension by shaking each spoke. Spokes should not be loose from the hub. Look for play where spoke flanges attach to the hub. Try to turn nipples by hand; they should not spin freely. If any spoke is loose, all spokes must be checked and tightened with a spoke wrench.
  2. Start with the spoke closest to the tire valve stem. Tighten each nipple, in sequence, exactly 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Continue tightening all spokes, no more than 1/2 turn, in sequence, until all spokes are tight. Note: More than a 1/2 turn each can distort and damage the wheel.

WARNING: Regularly check spoke tension and retighten when loose. If in doubt, ask an experienced mechanic to inspect spokes.

Chain and Sprocket

Maintain proper chain alignment. The wheel must not be skewed. If the chain is noisy or running rough, check lubrication, tension, and alignment of the sprockets.

WARNING: To avoid a pinch or injury, keep fingers away from moving sprockets and chain.

Battery Care and Disposal

Never store the product in freezing temperatures, as this will permanently damage the battery. Failure to recharge at least once a month may result in a battery that will no longer accept a charge.

CONTAINS SEALED LEAD ACID BATTERIES. BATTERIES MUST BE RECYCLED.

Disposal: Dispose of lead-acid batteries in an environmentally safe manner. Do not dispose of in fire, as the battery may explode or leak. Do not dispose of in regular household trash. Return exhausted batteries to an approved lead-acid battery recycler or a local automotive battery seller.

Charger: Regularly examine the charger for damage. If damaged, do not charge until repaired or replaced. Use ONLY the recommended charger.

Wheels: Wheels and drive system are subject to normal wear and tear. Periodically inspect wheels for excess wear and adjust/replace drive train components as required.

Replacement Parts: For spare parts, visit shop.razor.com.

Repair Centers: For a list of authorized Razor service centers, check www.razor.com.

WARNING: If a battery leak develops, avoid contact with leaking acid and place the damaged battery in a plastic bag. Refer to disposal instructions. If acid contacts skin or eyes, flush with cool water for at least 15 minutes and contact a physician.

WARNING: Battery posts, terminals, and related accessories contain lead and lead compounds. Wash hands after handling.
