CORTEX EBC
1996-1998 Mustang GT 4.6L Specific Instructions
Rev 2.0.0
WIRING
The 1996-1998 Mustang PCM is located inside the vehicle behind the kick panel in the passenger side foot well, near the door. The PCM features a single large 104-pin connector. Power, ground, RPM, vehicle speed, and throttle position signals are accessible at this PCM connector.
Diagram: A visual representation of a 104-pin PCM connector, with pins numbered sequentially from 1 to 104.
Connections
The Cortex EBC wiring harness and Speed Sensor Adapter V2 connect to the 104-pin PCM connector as detailed in the following tables. RPM and vehicle speed signals are essential for boost-by-gear applications. The Speed Sensor Adapter V2 can share the same power and ground source as the Cortex EBC.

VEHICLE CONFIGURATION SETTINGS
RPM DETECTION
Configuration requires setting 'Pulses Per Cycle' to 8 and 'Rotations Per Cycle' to 2.
Software Window Description: A screenshot of the 'Vehicle Configuration' software interface is shown. It features tabs for RPM, Speed, Gear, and GPI. The 'RPM Input Configuration' section is active, displaying 'Mode: RPM', 'Pulses Per Cycle: 8', and 'Rotations Per Cycle: 2'. Buttons for 'New', 'Open', 'Save', 'Read', 'Write', and 'Done' are present.
GEAR DETECTION
To determine the correct EVS ratio settings for gear detection, follow the steps in the 'Setup – Gear Detection' section of the Cortex EBC Help utility.
Software Window Description: The 'Help Navigator' displays a hierarchical table of contents for 'Cortex EBC Help', including 'Introduction', 'Installation', 'Device Operation', and 'Setup'. Under 'Setup', specific configuration options like 'Vehicle Configuration', 'Engine Speed (RPM) Detection Setup', and 'Gear Detection Setup' are listed. The main content area shows 'SETUP - GEAR DETECTION', with 'Related Topics' such as 'Vehicle Configuration Overview' and 'Engine Speed (RPM) Detection Setup'. It includes a note advising to correctly configure RPM detection settings first and instructs to establish a USB connection with the Cortex EBC (Instructions).
SPEED DETECTION
To determine the correct Pulses Per Mile setting, follow the steps in the 'Setup – Vehicle Speed Detection' section of the Cortex EBC Help utility.
Note: Gear detection setup should be completed before calibrating the Pulses Per Mile setting.
Software Window Description: The 'Help Navigator' displays a hierarchical table of contents for 'Cortex EBC Help', including 'Vehicle Configuration' and 'Vehicle Speed (VSS) Detection Setup'. The main content area shows 'SETUP - VEHICLE SPEED DETECTION', with 'Related Topics' such as 'Vehicle Configuration Overview' and 'General Wiring Instructions'. The 'Setup Procedure' outlines Step 1: Establish a USB connection with the Cortex EBC (Instructions). Step 2: Open the 'Vehicle Configuration' window by clicking the 'Vehicle Configuration...' button.
THROTTLE POSITION DETECTION
To determine the correct Closed TPS Voltage and Open TPS Voltage settings, follow the steps in the 'Setup – Throttle Position Detection' section of the Cortex EBC Help utility.
Software Window Description: The 'Help Navigator' displays a hierarchical table of contents for 'Cortex EBC Help', including 'Vehicle Configuration' and 'Throttle Position Detection Setup'. The main content area shows 'SETUP - THROTTLE POSITION DETECTION', with 'Related Topics' such as 'Vehicle Configuration Overview' and 'General Wiring Instructions'. Part 1: Initial Configuration instructs to turn the vehicle to the 'on' position (without starting the engine) and establish a USB connection with the Cortex EBC (Instructions). Step 1.2 instructs to open the 'Vehicle Configuration' window.
