Important Precautions
Warnings
Do Not Disassemble: There are no user-serviceable parts inside the instrument. Do not disassemble this instrument or attempt to disassemble or modify any internal components in any way. If a malfunction occurs, stop using it immediately and have it inspected by a qualified Yamaha service technician.
Wetness Warning: Do not expose the instrument to rain or use it near water or in humid environments. Do not place any containers containing liquid (such as vases, water bottles, or glasses) on top of the instrument, as liquid may spill into any openings. If liquid (such as water) seeps into the instrument, immediately turn off the power, unplug the power cord from the AC power outlet, and have the instrument inspected by a qualified Yamaha service technician.
Cautions
Connecting Other Devices: Before connecting the instrument to other electronic components, turn off the power to all components. Before turning the power on or off for any component, turn all volume controls to their lowest setting. Always set the volume of all components to the lowest level, and then gradually increase the volume while playing the instrument to adjust it to your preferred listening level.
Placement: Do not place the instrument in an unstable location where it may accidentally fall over.
Handle with Care: Do not lean on the instrument or place heavy objects on it, and do not apply excessive force to buttons, switches, or connectors.
Yamaha is not responsible for damage, data loss, or corruption caused by improper use or unauthorized modification of the instrument.
Further Precautions
For your own safety and to prevent damage or malfunction of the equipment, please observe the following precautions carefully.
Securely attach the Pickup Mute inside the bell of the instrument.
Do not drop the Pickup Mute. Dropping it may cause damage to the device, or may damage your hearing due to the loud noise produced. Use with care.

Precautions for Assembly (PM1X/PM2X)
When assembling, please refer to the owner's manual included with the PM1X or PM2X and follow the procedures provided in the manual.
Do not insert fingers or other body parts into the mute's openings, as this may cause injury.
Do not hit the mute against other objects.
Do not snag the mute's wiring or earphone cable on other objects.
To prevent the mute from falling off the bell of a bassoon or large bore tenor horn, be sure to use the included strap to secure the mute to the bell.
Avoid stepping on the wiring. ⚠️
After playing, remove the Pickup Mute from the instrument and wipe off any moisture from the Pickup Mute with a cloth. Do not wash with water. ❌
If there is any moisture remaining on the Pickup Mute after playing or at the end of a performance, wipe it thoroughly dry.

Setup and Use
Connecting Personal Studio STJ and Pickup Mute
⚠️ Before connecting the cable and installing the Pickup Mute, be sure to turn off the power and remove your headphones.

Using SILENT Brass

⚠️ Caution: If you accidentally unplug a cable while the power is on, or if components are subjected to strong impact, loud noise may be produced, which could damage your hearing and the components. Use with care.
Installing the Pickup Mute
Hold the Pickup Mute with your right hand and insert it firmly into the instrument's bell, while supporting the instrument with your left hand.
Holding the French Horn
Use one of the following methods to hold both the Pickup Mute and the instrument simultaneously.
- Method 1: Hold the instrument with your right hand, place it on the edge of the Pickup Mute, with the base of your thumb on the Pickup Mute.
- Method 2: Lightly support the instrument with the base of your right thumb, placing it on the Pickup Mute, while your other fingers hold the outer edge of the bell.
