- Installation and operation manual
- 2 blocks for disassembling sauna stove slats
ATTENTION! HUUM CLIFF requires a control panel and stones for complete installation.
Read this manual carefully before use. It is intended for sauna owners, maintenance personnel, and electricians.
ATTENTION! Electrical work must be performed by a licensed electrician.
Before Installation
Read the manual thoroughly. Do not install or maintain if instructions are unclear. Contact your vendor or distributor for questions.
- Verify heater output (kW) matches sauna room volume (ft³/m³). See Table 1-2.
- Add 3.3 ft³ (1 m³) to sauna volume for each 1 ft² (1 m²) of uninsulated brick, tile, or glass walls.
- Incorrect dimensioning voids the warranty.
- Refer to Table 3 for minimal safe distances to ceiling and walls.
- CLIFF 6, 9, 11 models attach to the floor with provided brackets. Install bracket to heater leg and fix to floor with a suitable screw (min. 6 x 40mm).

Installation
Positioning the Heater
- Position heater to ensure safe distance from flammable materials (see Table 3).
- Prevent physical contact and dangerous situations.
- Stone capacity: CLIFF Mini approx. 132 lb (60 kg); CLIFF approx. 165 lb (75 kg).
- Power cable input is on the bottom cover.
Connecting to the Power Supply
- Install a main disconnect (circuit breaker) before the sauna controller.
- Connection must be by a certified electrician.
- Power cable must comply with UL 62 (US) and CSA 49 (Canada) for UV, water, and oil resistance.
- Connection without a GFCI breaker is recommended.
- Refer to Table 1-2 for max current intensity.
- Secure cable with the cover screw clamp.
ATTENTION! Use only heat-resistant cables. Junction box must be waterproof and located up to 20 inches (50 cm) from the floor.
- Open electrical box cover.
- Connect power cable to terminal block per diagram.
- Close cover.
- Fix cable with a cable strap.
Wiring Diagrams
Diagrams show electrical connections for CLIFF 4 and CLIFF 6/9/11 models, indicating L1, L2, 240V, and 208V terminals.
Fitting the Stones
- Do not bend heating elements when placing stones.
- Ensure sufficient air circulation around elements.
- Wash stones before filling.
- Stack stones sparsely; overcrowding causes overheating and slows heating.
- Stone diameter: 1.2-1.9 in (3–5 cm).
- External stones must be stacked densely, covering elements. Elements must not be visible.
- Ceramic stones are used at user's risk.
ATTENTION! Insufficient stones pose a fire hazard!
ATTENTION! Stone placement by a specialist is recommended.
Diagrams: Illustrate correct (✔️) and incorrect (❌) stone stacking methods.
Removing Heater Ribs
Ribs are removable with props (A) for stone fitting. Steps:
- Loosen bottom nuts by 5 mm.
- Insert props between ribs.
- Carefully remove rib from both ends, right first, then left.
ATTENTION! Remove ribs without force or twisting to avoid bending tenons!
Diagrams: Illustrate rib removal steps.
Reassembly is the reverse process.
Operation
First-time Use
Initial insulation resistance may be lower due to moisture from storage/transport. Moisture evaporates within 1-2 hours of heating.
Controlling the Heater
- Use any certified control panel. Heater output must be within the panel manufacturer's interval.
- Use only with a timer control unit.
- Operating limits: 12h with 6h rest for apartments/hotels; 6h for others, no auto-restart.
Guard Rails
- Recommended: construct a guard rail using low heat capacity, poor thermal conductivity materials.
- If using flammable materials, maintain specified safety clearances.
ATTENTION! Installing too close to flammable constructions increases fire hazard!
Sauna Room Requirements
Wall Insulation
Massive heat-accumulating walls (brick, glass, rendering) need insulation for normal heater output.
Sufficient insulation includes:
- 4 in (min. 2 in / 50 mm) insulation wool layer.
- Reflective material/aluminum foil vapor barrier.
- 0.4 in (10 mm) air gap between vapor barrier and wood paneling.
- 0.5-0.65 in (12-16 mm) thick wood paneling.
- Min. 0.2 in (5 mm) air gap at ceiling panel edges.
Lower ceiling height to 86.6 - 91 in (2200-2300 mm, min. 2200 mm) to optimize heater performance. Insulate ceiling with at least 4 in (100 mm) and panel as described. Use wood for interior surfaces, except heat-resistant walls near the heater.
ATTENTION! Wall insulation requires fire inspector approval. Insulating flues is forbidden!
ATTENTION! Non-flammable insulation (e.g., mineral panels without air gap) can cause dangerous overheating!
Floor
Stone fragments can damage plastic flooring. Use ceramic tiles and dark joint filler under/around the heater to prevent damage.
Ventilation
Ensure sufficient fresh air (6 air changes per hour). System depends on natural or mechanical ventilation.
Ventilation components:
- Supply air pipe: 50-100 mm (1 31/32"-3 15/16").
- Exhaust air pipe: 100-200 mm (3 15/16"-7 7/8").
- Drying pipe: Or leave door open for ventilation after use.
Mechanical Ventilation:
- Supply air: Opposite heater, higher (≥ 400 mm / 15 ¾").
- Exhaust air: Opposite wall (≤ 600 mm / 23 ⅝" from floor).
- Drying pipe opening: Opposite wall, under ceiling.
Natural Ventilation:
- Supply air: Opposite heater, lower (≤ 400 mm / 15 ¾").
- Exhaust air: Opposite wall, 200 mm (7 ⅞") higher than supply air (≤ 600 mm / 23 ⅝" from floor).
- Drying pipe opening: Opposite wall, near heater.
Supply air pipe needs an adjustable valve. Ensure a 4 in (100 mm) gap under the sauna door if exhaust is in the washroom.
Use drying pipe opening for post-sauna cooling or between sessions if humidity is high. Keep it closed during sauna use.
General Warnings
