How to Use the Global Caché IR Learners with the Global Caché iLearn Application
by Global Cache
To get started storing your necessary IR commands for later automation and control use, you first need to obtain the proper application to interact with your IR Learner. Go to www.globalcache.com/downloads and download the iLearn application.
The iLearn application interface allows for connection to an IR Learner and configuration of capture options. Key settings include:
- Connection: Select the type of IR Learner (e.g., iTach Learner, GC-IRL Serial, GC-IRL on GC-100) and enter its IP Address or COM port.
- Capture Options:
- Module: Designates the physical location from which the IR command will be sent. For iTach units, module 0 is typically the network/power port module, and module 1 is the next sequential module.
- Connector: Designates the IR port from which the command will be sent. Each IR module has 3 connectors.
- Repeat: Specifies how many times the saved command will be repeated when executed.
- Offset: An odd amount of IR on-off command string pairs that denote a non-repeated preamble.
- Gaps: Lines of captured IR command information to be saved.
- Gap (pulses): The value by which the iLearn application splits individual lines of IR pulses.
- Seperation (ms): Controls the final numeric value in each IR command string, representing the delay at the IR command's frequency.
Important Note: Commands sent to an iTach unit while in learner mode disable the IR learner. Normally, an automatic reinstatement of learner mode command is sent after a command is sent via the Send IR button. However, with a WiFi connection, this can be interrupted due to signal delay. If your IR Learner stops receiving commands, press Disconnect on the iLearn application and reconnect to the unit's IR learner.
Once the iLearn application is running, select your IR Learner type and enter its IP Address or COM port. Press Connect to activate the IR Learner and prepare it to receive IR transmissions.
To send a command to the Learner, use your IR emitting control device (e.g., TV remote) and aim it at the Learner's IR receiving port (a small hole located to the bottom right of the power port). For better results, ensure the IR emitter of your control device is directly in line with or against the learner's access point.
The Edit View section allows for managing captured IR data:
- Trim: Cleans extra IR information from the captured data.
- Button Name: Assigns a name to the captured command (e.g., the button pressed).
- Save Data: Saves the captured and processed IR command.
- Save Format: Choose from available formats (e.g., Global Caché, HEX, GC Compre) which dictate the syntax of the saved IR command. The appropriate format depends on the control application being used.
After registering and modifying the command, assign a Button Name, select the Save Format, Trim the command string to the necessary length, and then Save the IR command for future use.
Once saved, the command information appears in the Results table, showing the command name in brackets followed by the numeric IR command string. By default, commands are saved in a "TempIRdata" text document within the iLearn parent directory. To specify a file name and save directory, click the New File button, enter the details, and press Save. The Clear button can be used to empty the Results table and clear stored code information if errors occurred during input or saving.
Congratulations! You are now in control of Global Caché IR learners using the iLearn application and are ready to start learning IR commands.
