Function Description
The microphone is a cylindrical device with a grille at the top and a control knob on the body.
A USB Power Indicator
When lit, indicates the USB connection is active and the MUD6 is receiving power from the USB interface.
B Headphone Volume Control
A pop-out level control used to adjust the overall volume of the headphone output.
C Headphone Output Jack
A 1/8-inch (3.5mm) stereo jack for connecting headphones or studio monitors.
D USB connector
The MUD6 features a USB Type-B connector, allowing connection to a laptop via a USB Type-A port.
Installation
On a Table
Through the optional table stand HM6, the MUD6 can be placed on a table for recording.
On a Stand
By using a microphone stand, the MUD6 can be mounted for recording.
Connections USB Connector
A separate 3-meter cable with a USB Type-A connector allows connection to a computer's USB port.
*Notice: The included USB cable is for laptops with a Type-A connector. For computers with other connector types (e.g., Type-C), please use a connector adapter.
Quick Start
- Position the MUD6 on an optional stand using the included accessories.
- Ensure the grille net faces the sound source and the Perrycom logo and LED indicator are oriented towards the sound source.
- Plug the Type-B connector of the included USB cable into the USB socket on the bottom of the MUD6.
- Plug the other end of the USB cable into an available powered USB port on your computer.
*Notice: Be sure to check the USB audio device driver setup for Windows and Mac OS to confirm your computer has recognized the MUD6.
- Launch your DAW, turn down the main output level, and select the MUD6 for the input.
- Set up a mono record track in your DAW.
- Configure the MUD6's input level. This can be done via the Sound playback settings in Windows or the Sound dialog box in System Preferences on MAC OS.
- Adjust the microphone's input level in your DAW or system settings to approximately half way.
- Connect headphones to the MUD6's headphone output. Position the MUD6 towards the sound source and adjust the volume control until a comfortable listening level is achieved.
Now, follow the instructions of your DAW software to enable the track for recording, and you are ready to record.
*Notice: If the microphone level of MUD6 is too loud or not enough, please check your DAW software or refer to the Troubleshooting page in this manual to adjust the level in Windows and Mac computer systems.
USB Audio Equipment Driver
Windows Operating System
- Hit "Control Panel" >> Hit "Hardware and Sound".
- Navigate to Sound >> Hit "Manage audio devices".
- Hit the "Recording" tab, click "MUD6", then click "Set Default" to select MUD6 as the default microphone.
*Notice: If a green tick is already next to the MUD6 microphone symbol and the "Set Default" button is grayed out, the MUD6 has already been selected as the default device.
- Hit "Properties" >> navigate to the "Level" tab to adjust the microphone input gain.
Headphone Output Monitoring (Windows)
- To use the MUD6's headphone output jack for monitoring: Hit the "Playback" tab, click "MUD6", then click "Set Default" to select MUD6 as the default playback device.
*Notice: If a green tick is already next to the MUD6 speaker symbol and the "Set Default" button is grayed out, the MUD6 has already been selected as the default device.
- Hit "Properties" >> navigate to the "Level" tab to adjust the headphone output volume. Afterward, use the headphone volume knob on the MUD6 for real-time adjustment.
Mac OS Operating System
- Open the Sound Preference window from System Preferences. Select MUD6 from both the Input and Output tabs.
- For Garage Band users: Open Garage Band before plugging in the microphone to automatically select the USB device.
Using the Direct Monitor
- To turn direct monitoring on or off, open the Audio/MIDI Setup utility located in the Utility folder inside the Applications folder.
- Click the checkbox in the "Thru" column in Audio/MIDI Setup.
