Pro Tip
For the best results, use a high-quality setting-type compound for the first coat. When using screws, pre-drill holes to prevent damaging the vent frame. A minimum 10-inch feathering of drywall compound helps achieve a truly
seamless finish. Allow each coat of drywall compound to dry completely before applying the
next or sanding.
Installation Steps
1. Locate and Mark Choose the installation area on the wall or ceiling. Place the PermaFlow vent against the surface and trace its outline with a pencil. Use a level to ensure proper alignment.
2. Cut Opening For new installations: Cut along the traced outline using a drywall saw or utility knife. For existing openings: Adjust the opening size if necessary to fit the PermaFlow vent.
3. Prepare the Opening Ensure the vent fits snugly in the opening and sits flush with the drywall surface. If needed, add wooden backing for additional support behind drywall.
4. Install the Vent Insert the vent into the opening with the finished edge facing outward. Secure the vent using a nail gun with finishing nails or drywall screws. Space fasteners approximately 6 inches apart around the perimeter. Ensure all fasteners are countersunk below the surface.
5. Protect the Vent To prevent drywall compound from entering the vent slots, cover them with painter's tape.
6. Apply Drywall Compound Use drywall tape and compound to cover the seams around the vent. Feather the compound at least 10 inches beyond the vent edges for a seamless blend. Allow the first coat to dry completely.
7. Sand and Finish Apply a second (and if necessary, third) coat of drywall compound. Once dry, sand the area smooth. Clean the surface thoroughly to remove all dust.
8. Paint The PermaFlow vent comes pre-primed for your convenience. Paint the vent and surrounding area to match your desired wall or ceiling color.
