The STIHL RMA 339 and RMA 339 C are battery-powered cordless lawnmowers designed for efficient lawn care. They feature a robust construction and user-friendly design.

General Safety Precautions:
- Read all instructions before operating the device.
- Keep children and unauthorized persons away from the work area.
- Do not operate the lawnmower in wet conditions.
- Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE): sturdy footwear, long trousers, safety glasses, and gloves.
- Never operate the lawnmower with damaged parts or without safety devices installed.
- Ensure the blocking pin is inserted before operation.
- Do not operate the lawnmower if the blocking pin is removed.
- Do not operate the lawnmower if the battery is not correctly installed.
- Do not operate the lawnmower if the grass catcher is not properly attached.
- Never reach into the cutting mechanism while the motor is running.
- Wait for the motor to stop completely before performing any maintenance or cleaning.
- Do not use the lawnmower for purposes other than mowing grass.
- Do not operate the lawnmower in rain or thunderstorms.
- Do not operate the lawnmower on slopes steeper than 25° (46.6%).
- Keep hands and feet away from moving parts.
- Do not operate the lawnmower if you are tired, under the influence of alcohol, or medication.
- Keep packaging material away from children to prevent suffocation hazards.
Battery Safety:
- Do not expose batteries to heat, fire, or moisture.
- Do not short-circuit battery terminals.
- Do not disassemble or damage the battery.
- Charge batteries only with the approved STIHL charger.
- Keep batteries out of reach of children.
- Store batteries in a cool, dry place.
Charger Safety:
- Do not expose the charger to moisture or water.
- Do not use the charger if the cord or plug is damaged.
- Do not operate the charger in wet conditions.
- Ensure the charger is properly connected to a suitable power outlet.
- Keep chargers away from children.
Assembly and Setup
Follow these steps to assemble your STIHL lawnmower:
Handle Assembly (RMA 339 C):
- Insert bushing (E) into the handlebar (1).
- Place washers (G) onto the bushing, convex side inwards.
- Insert the bushing (E) and washers (G) along with the handlebar (1) into the console (2).
- Insert nut (H) into the console as shown.
- Insert screw (F) through the handlebar (1) and console (2).
- Tighten screw (F) to a torque of 18-22 Nm.
Cable Management:
- Insert the electric cable into the cable holder (3) as shown.
- Press into the holder on the handlebar (4).
- Secure with the cable clip (5) on the handlebar.
Handle Assembly (RMA 339):
- Upper Handlebar Part: Insert pan-head screw (I) into the cable holder (J) and thread the electric cable.
- Attach the two-part handlebar (2) to both lower handlebar parts (3).
- Insert pan-head screws (I) from the right with the cable holder (J), and from the left without the cable holder, into the holes.
- Tighten with the rotary handles (K).
Cable Clip Installation:
- Mount the cable clip (4) on the upper handlebar part.
- Insert the electric cable as shown.
- Close the latch (5) and secure it. Ensure a distance of 25-27 cm between the cable clip and the switch.
Grass Catcher Assembly:
- Attach the upper part of the grass catcher (B) to the lower part (C), ensuring correct alignment of the guides.
- Press the bolts (D) in from the inside into the designated holes.
- Snap the upper part (B) into the lower part (C) with a light press.
- Install the grass catcher (refer to section 9.7).
Operation
Battery Insertion and Removal:
- Remove the blocking pin (refer to 9.2) and hold the battery compartment cover open.
- To Remove: Press the stop lever (1) towards the battery and pull the battery (2) upwards.
- To Install: Lightly press the battery (2) and insert it fully into the battery compartment until it clicks into place.
Charging the Battery:
- Insert the battery into the charger.
- Connect the charger to the power outlet.
- The charging process starts automatically. The LED on the charger will turn green. The LEDs on the battery will also light up green, indicating the charge level.
- When charging is complete, the charger and battery LEDs will turn off. Unplug the charger.
- Insert the fully charged battery into the lawnmower.
Starting the Lawnmower:
- Ensure the battery is installed and the blocking pin is inserted.
- Press the ON button (1) and hold it.
- Pull the engine stop lever (2) towards the handlebar and hold it.
- The ON button (1) can be released after the engine stop lever (2) is engaged.
Stopping the Lawnmower:
- Release the engine stop lever (1). The motor and blade will stop after a brief overrun.
Eco Mode:
The Eco mode optimizes energy efficiency and cutting performance. Activate or deactivate it using the switch in the battery compartment. In Eco mode, the motor speed automatically reduces when less power is needed.
Cutting Height Adjustment:
The cutting height can be adjusted using the lever (16). Pull the lever away from the lawnmower to disengage it from the locking tabs (2). Select the desired height and release the lever. The selected height is visible on the front locking tab (3).
- RMA 339 / RMA 339 C: 5 cutting height levels (30 mm to 70 mm).
- RMA 339 (UK version): 6 cutting height levels (20 mm to 70 mm).
Note: Use the minimum cutting height only on level surfaces to avoid damage.
Grass Catcher:
- Installation: Open the cover (1), attach the grass catcher (2) by inserting the tabs (3) into the mounting points (4), then close the cover (1).
- Removal: Open the cover (1), lift the grass catcher (2) and pull it back, then close the cover (1).
The fill indicator (14) shows when the grass catcher is full. Empty it when the indicator drops.
Maintenance and Care
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your lawnmower.
Cleaning:
- After each use, clean the entire lawnmower.
- Remove grass clippings from the underside of the mower deck with a wooden stick or brush.
- Do not use high-pressure cleaners or water jets.
- Clean the motor housing and wheels.
- Ensure cooling air channels are clear of debris.
Blade Care:
- Inspect the blade for wear and damage before each use.
- Sharpen or replace the blade if worn or damaged. Follow the instructions in section 13.6 and 13.7 for checking and replacing the blade.
- Ensure the blade is properly balanced after sharpening.
- Tighten the blade screw to the specified torque (10-15 Nm for RMA 339 C, 18-22 Nm for RMA 339).
Storage:
- Clean the lawnmower thoroughly before storing.
- Store the lawnmower in a dry, dust-free place, out of reach of children.
- Store the battery and charger separately from the lawnmower.
- For winter storage, ensure the lawnmower is clean, moving parts are lubricated, and any worn or damaged parts are replaced.
- Store the battery with a charge of 20-40%.

Troubleshooting
Lawnmower does not start:
- Possible Cause: Battery not charged. Solution: Charge battery (refer to 8.4).
- Possible Cause: Battery too cold or too hot. Solution: Allow battery to reach operating temperature.
- Possible Cause: Battery fault. Solution: Replace battery.
- Possible Cause: Blocking pin not inserted. Solution: Insert blocking pin (refer to 9.2).
- Possible Cause: Loose connection between lawnmower and battery. Solution: Ensure battery is correctly installed.
Lawnmower stops during operation:
- Possible Cause: Motor overheating. Solution: Allow motor to cool down.
- Possible Cause: Mowing too tall or wet grass. Solution: Adjust cutting height or reduce mowing speed.
- Possible Cause: Grass catcher full. Solution: Empty grass catcher.
- Possible Cause: Blocked discharge chute. Solution: Clear discharge chute.
Excessive vibration:
- Possible Cause: Loose blade screw. Solution: Tighten blade screw (refer to 13.7).
- Possible Cause: Unbalanced blade. Solution: Sharpen or replace blade (refer to 13.8).
Battery not charging:
- Possible Cause: Dirty battery contacts or charger contacts. Solution: Clean contacts (refer to 13.2).
- Possible Cause: Battery too cold or too hot. Solution: Allow battery to reach operating temperature.
- Possible Cause: Charger fault. Solution: Check charger or contact dealer.
Disposal
Dispose of the lawnmower, battery, and charger according to local regulations. Do not dispose of with household waste.
