AmpliFi HD Quick Start Guide
Package Contents
The AmpliFi HD system includes the following components:
- AmpliFi Router: A white cylindrical router with a circular touchscreen display.
- AmpliFi MeshPoints (Qty. 2): Two white, tall, cylindrical devices designed to extend Wi-Fi coverage.
- Power Adapter: A white rectangular adapter for powering the router.
- Ethernet Cable: A white coiled cable for wired network connections.
Hardware Overview
Router
The AmpliFi Router features a front touchscreen display and an adjustable LED on the bottom. The rear panel includes:
- 1. Touchscreen Display: The front of the router features an adjustable, full-color touchscreen display.
- 2. Adjustable LED: The bottom of the router features an adjustable LED, which is fully lit by default when the router is configured and ready for use. Brightness settings are configurable via the AmpliFi app.
- 3. Ethernet Ports: Four Gigabit Ethernet ports (10/100/1000 Mbps) for connecting wired network devices.
- 4. WAN Port: Connects to the broadband modem provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
- 5. Power Port: Connects the Power Adapter.
- 6. USB Port: Reserved for future use.
MeshPoint
The AmpliFi MeshPoint is a cylindrical device with:
- 1. Adjustable Antenna: The antenna can be adjusted to provide optimal signal coverage for your location.
- 2. Signal LEDs: These LEDs indicate signal strength once the MeshPoint is connected to the Router.
Installation
The AmpliFi Router can be installed using one of two methods:
App Users
This method utilizes the AmpliFi app for iPhone or Android.
- Download the AmpliFi app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Connect your mobile device to the default AmpliFi Wi-Fi network (SSID).
- Open the AmpliFi app. The app will guide you through the setup process, including naming your wireless network and creating a password.
Non-App Users
This method involves connecting directly to the default AmpliFi wireless network (SSID) from a computer or tablet.
- Connect the AmpliFi Router to your modem using an Ethernet cable. Plug the router's power adapter into a wall outlet.
- Connect the AmpliFi Router to the AmpliFi unit using an Ethernet cable. Plug the unit's power adapter into a wall outlet.
- Connect the AmpliFi Router to power.
- Connect the AmpliFi MeshPoint to power by plugging its power adapter into a wall outlet.
- Follow the on-screen instructions on the AmpliFi Router's touchscreen or connect a computer/tablet to the AmpliFi Wi-Fi network and navigate to the setup wizard to configure your system. This wizard will prompt you to name your wireless network and create a password.
Installing the MeshPoints
To extend your Wi-Fi coverage, place MeshPoints strategically. The system supports optimal placement for "Best Performance" and "Mesh Multi-Hop" configurations.
Plug the MeshPoint into a wall outlet.
App Features
The AmpliFi app provides comprehensive control and monitoring of your Wi-Fi system:
- System: View an overview of network status, connected clients, and active download/upload speeds. Tap devices to display/edit settings. (Icon: ⚙️ System)
- Performance: Run speed tests to check download and upload speeds, and ping time. Swipe left to view historical data. (Icon: ? Performance)
- Guest: Create guest networks with customizable time limits. Guests connect using a network name with a "-guest" suffix. (Icon: ? Guest)
- Family: Create profiles for family members or groups, assign devices, and schedule "quiet time" when internet access is restricted. (Icon: ???? Family)
- Diagnose: Check your WAN link, IP settings, internet connection, and MeshPoint status. (Icon: ? Diagnose)
Access additional features and support via the side menu, including Remote Access, Help Center, and Live Support.
Resetting to Factory Defaults
If the AmpliFi Router administration password is lost, factory default settings can be restored. To reset the AmpliFi Router, use a straightened paper clip to press the Reset button located on the bottom of the router for approximately 10 seconds until the LED turns off. If the AmpliFi Router is reset, all MeshPoints should also be reset using the same method.
