How to Use
- Charge the headphones: Insert the supplied rechargeable battery into the left housing of the headphones, observing correct polarity.
- Connect the A/V component: Connect the A/V component using its headphone jack (stereo mini jack). Set the volume of the A/V component as high as possible without distorting the audio signal.
- Wear the headphones.
- Turn on the A/V component.
- Adjust the volume: Before listening, lower the volume to reduce the risk of hearing damage.
Charging the Headphones
The supplied rechargeable battery is not charged initially. Charge it before use.
To recharge after use: Connect the headphones to the CHARGE plug of the transmitter. The POWER indicator will light up red, and charging will begin. Charging is complete when the indicator turns off. The transmitter automatically stops sending RF signals while charging.
Charging and Usage Time: Approximately 1 hour charging for approximately 16 hours of usage.
Checking Remaining Battery: Turn on the switch on the left housing. The POWER indicator lights up red when the battery is serviceable. Charge if the indicator dims, flashes, or the sound becomes distorted.
Note: Only the supplied BP-HP550-11 battery can be charged. Dry batteries cannot be charged and should not be used with the charging function.
Tips for Volume Setting
When watching videos, be careful not to raise the volume too high during quiet scenes to avoid ear damage during loud scenes. If the input volume is high, set the ATT (attenuator) switch to “–6 dB” if audio input is distorted.
Using with Separately-Sold Dry Batteries
Commercially available LR03 (size AAA) dry batteries can be used. Install two batteries as described in step 1 of "How to Use." When dry batteries are installed, the charging function is not active. Battery life with Sony alkaline LR03 batteries is approximately 28 hours.
Tips for Better Reception
The system uses high-frequency signals (800 MHz band), so reception can be affected by surroundings. Avoid areas with steel structures, many electrical appliances, metal surfaces, or near roadways with radio transceivers. The optimal reception distance is up to approximately 100 meters, but this can vary. If noise is present, reduce the distance or select another channel. Some "dead spots" may exist due to the nature of RF signals; moving the transmitter can change their location.
Replacing Earpads
Earpads are replaceable. If they become dirty or worn, they can be ordered from the store where the system was purchased or a Sony dealer. Remove old earpads by pulling them out of the groove and install new ones by fitting them into the groove.
Troubleshooting
- No sound/Low sound: Check headphone power, transmitter/component connections, component power, and volume levels. Change the radio frequency using the CHANNEL selector on the transmitter and the channel switch on the headphones. Ensure the rechargeable battery is charged or dry batteries are new.
- Distorted or intermittent sound: Use headphones closer to the transmitter, reposition the transmitter, lower the component volume if distorted, and change radio frequencies. Ensure batteries are charged.
- Loud background noise: Adjust component volume, ensure batteries are charged, and use headphones closer to the transmitter.
- Sound cuts off: The transmitter may turn off due to no signal for 4 minutes. Increase the component volume if connected via headphone jack.
- Battery cannot be charged/POWER indicator does not light up red: Ensure the supplied rechargeable battery is installed correctly and the headphone switch is set to OFF.
Precautions
- AC Adaptor: Use only the supplied AC adaptor. Ensure the plug is inserted firmly.
- Power Sources and Placement: Disconnect the AC adaptor and remove batteries if the system will not be used for a long period. Avoid direct sunlight, heat, moisture, sand, dust, and mechanical shock.
- Water and Moisture: The unit is not waterproof. Avoid contact with water or foreign objects to prevent fire or electric shock.
- Static Electricity: Wear clothes made from natural materials to reduce static electricity.
- Medical Devices: This product contains magnets that may interfere with pacemakers or other medical devices. Consult a doctor before use if you use such devices.
