Safety Warnings & Recommendations

Tools and Equipment Required for Installation

Installing the Router Case

The router can be placed on a desktop or mounted in a 19" rack. Ensure cable jacks are accessible, LED indicators are visible, and ventilation holes are unobstructed.

Connecting Power to the Router

Connecting to the Console & Auxiliary Port of the Router

Console Port

The Console port (RJ45) supports transmission rates from 1200bps to 115200bps. It requires a dedicated Console cable (DRC-0001) to connect to a terminal device (like VT-100) or a PC's serial port. Use a terminal emulator (e.g., Windows HyperTerminal) with the following settings: Rate: 9600bps, Data bits: 8, Stop bit: 1, Parity: None, Flow control: None.

The pin details for the Console port are:

The DRC-0001 cable connects the Console port to a terminal or PC serial port (DB25 or DB9).

AUX Port-Auxiliary Port

The AUX Port (RJ45) supports transmission rates from 1200bps to 115200bps. It can be connected to an asynchronous modem for remote console configuration or as a backup link. Recommended settings: Rate: 115200bps, Data bits: 8, Stop bit: 1, Parity: None, Flow control: None.

The auxiliary cable (DRC-0011) connects the AUX Port to an external asynchronous modem using RJ45 to DB25 or DB9 connectors.

Connecting the Fast Ethernet Interface

The Fast Ethernet port (RJ45) supports 10/100 Mbps auto-negotiation. Connect a Hub/Switch using a CAT5 UTP/STP cable. The UTP pin numbering is standard.

To connect directly to a single host computer, a UTP cross-over cable can be used. For multiple computers, an Ethernet Hub or switch is required. Cable connections should comply with EIA/TIA 568A/B standards.

Installing WAN Interface Cards

Ensure the router is powered OFF and the power cord is removed before installing interface cards. Use ESD-preventive measures.

  1. Power OFF the router and ground the chassis.
  2. Remove all network and telephone cables.
  3. Remove the blank filler panel from the desired slot using a flat-blade screwdriver.
  4. Align the module with the chassis guides and slide it into the slot.
  5. Push the module until the edge connector is seated securely. Align captive screws with chassis holes.
  6. Secure the module with captive mounting screws.
  7. Refer to the Interface Card Hardware Installation Manual for detailed procedures.
  8. Configure router parameters using the Software Configuration Guide.

Interface Combination Matrix

Refer to the Interface Card Hardware Installation Manual for detailed descriptions.
