Siemens RDG2..KN Room Thermostat Operating Instructions
Introduction
The Siemens RDG2..KN is a room thermostat with KNX communications, designed to allow users to set both ideal temperature and relative humidity. It offers the operating modes: Comfort, Economy, and Protection. Additionally, it can operate in Auto mode based on a schedule via the KNX bus or locally. The fan can operate in Auto mode or at a selected speed in Manual mode. Users have the flexibility to use factory settings or adjust them as needed.
Models covered: RDG200KN, RDG260KN

Control Buttons:
- A (Operating mode button): Used to select operating modes. If P002 = 3 and P009 = 1, this button can switch units between °C and °F.
- B (Fan mode button): Used to select fan mode.
- C (Rotary knob): Used to adjust temperature setpoints and navigate menus.
- D (Green leaf): Indicates energy-efficient settings.
- E (Protection hospitality mode button): Used for protection mode functions.
Note: The ability to switch units (°C/°F) with button A is available from product index C or higher.
Basic Operations
Changing the Room Temperature
Turn the rotary knob (C) clockwise to increase or counterclockwise to decrease the current room temperature setpoint. The setting range is typically 5-40 °C, but can be limited by parameters P013 and P016.
Adjusting the Fan Speed
Press the fan mode button (B) repeatedly until the desired fan mode is reached:
- AUTO: The fan speed is automatically selected by the thermostat based on the setpoint and current room temperature.
- Manual Mode (Speed I, II, III): The fan operates independently at the speed set by the user.
Changing the Operating Mode
The thermostat offers several operating modes:
- Comfort Mode: Maintains the room temperature at the setpoint, adjustable via the rotary knob.
- Economy Mode: Maintains the room temperature at a lower or higher setpoint to save energy. This mode can be activated via the operating mode button (if enabled, P002=2) or an external signal (e.g., keycard, presence detector). Factory Economy setpoints are 15 °C for heating and 30 °C for cooling, adjustable via parameters P019 and P020.
- Protection Mode: The thermostat stops operating. However, if the room temperature drops below 8 °C, heating is activated to prevent frost. This mode is activated by a window contact (local or KNX). Installer-configurable setpoints for frost and heating protection are available.
- Auto Mode: Automatically switches between Comfort and Economy modes based on a KNX bus or local schedule (enabled via P005). If no schedule is active, Auto mode defaults to Comfort mode.
Important: If setpoints are set to Off, there is no protective heating or cooling function, posing a risk of frost.
Green Leaf Indication
The green leaf icon is an energy-efficiency feature indicating user settings:
- Green Leaf: Settings are within the preset energy-efficient range.
- Red Leaf: Settings exceed the preset energy-efficient range. Users can press the red leaf icon to return to energy-efficient settings.
Reminders and Fault Displays
Filter Cleaning Reminder: A "FIL" message may appear, reminding the user to clean the HVAC equipment filter. This message typically appears after a certain period of fan operation and disappears when the thermostat is set to Protection mode.
External Faults: Messages like "AL1", "AL2", or "AL3" indicate external faults that need to be configured by an HVAC installer.
- AL1: [Description of AL1 fault, needs installer configuration]
- AL2: [Description of AL2 fault, needs installer configuration]
- AL3: [Description of AL3 fault, needs installer configuration]
Scheduler Setup
The scheduler allows programming different temperature settings for various times and days.
Setting a Schedule:
- Press the [PROG] button (or equivalent) to enter programming mode.
- Press the [Scheduler] button (or equivalent) to enter scheduler mode.
- Use the rotary knob to select the weekday to be set, then confirm.
- Use the rotary knob to view existing schedules for that day, then select one to edit.
- The Comfort mode setting will be displayed. Confirm, then adjust the start time for Comfort mode using the rotary knob.
- Confirm the Comfort start time and proceed to set the Economy mode start time.
- Confirm the Economy start time. Users can then view and edit other schedules for the day or move to other days.
Note: Schedules can be deleted using a specific button, or changes can be cancelled using the [Escape] button. A maximum of three schedules can be set per day.
Setting Time, Date, and Away (Holiday) Mode

Button Lock
The button lock function can be enabled via parameter P028.
- Manual Lock (P028=2): Pressing the right button for 3 seconds locks or unlocks the buttons. A key symbol [Key icon] indicates locked buttons.
- Auto Lock (P028=1): Buttons automatically lock 10 seconds after the last adjustment.
Commissioning and Control Parameters
To adapt the thermostat to your system and optimize control performance, qualified HVAC installers can adjust various control parameters. This can be done via the thermostat buttons or a commissioning tool.
Accessing Control Parameters:
- Press the left and right buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds (or until a beep if the buzzer is enabled, P030).
- Service Level: Release and press the right button again within 0.5-4 seconds until "P001" is displayed.
- Expert Level: Release and press the left button again within 0.5-4 seconds until the temperature display disappears. Turn the rotary knob counterclockwise at least 1.5 rotations; P050 will be displayed.
- Select the desired parameter by turning the rotary knob.
- Press the [OK] button. The current value will flash, allowing adjustment with the rotary knob.
- Press [OK] to confirm or [Escape] to cancel.
Repeat steps 4-5 for additional parameters or press [Escape] to exit parameter setting mode.
Note: If password protection is enabled by the installer, a password is required. Five incorrect password attempts will lock the thermostat for 5 minutes, displaying specific symbols.
