BEKO ÖWAMAT® Oil-Water Separator
Model Series: ÖWAMAT® 12 / 14 / 15 / 16
Document Type: Installation and Operation Manual
Introduction
Thank you for choosing the BEKO ÖWAMAT® oil-water separator. This manual provides essential instructions for the installation, operation, and maintenance of your unit. Adhering to these guidelines ensures the perfect functioning and reliable condensate treatment of your ÖWAMAT® unit.
General Safety Instructions
DANGER! Compressed Air! Contact with rapidly escaping compressed air or bursting components can cause severe injury or death. Use only pressure-resistant installation materials. Prevent condensate from splashing onto people or objects. Failure to comply may result in injury or equipment damage.
CAUTION! Oil-Contaminated Condensate! Oil-contaminated condensate contains substances hazardous to health and the environment. It can irritate and damage skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. It must not enter sewer systems, water bodies, or soil. National legal limit values for indirect discharge may vary regionally. Wastewater for indirect discharge must not exceed a hydrocarbon concentration of 20 mg/l.
CAUTION! Risk of Injury! Hoses must be securely fixed to prevent flapping movements that could cause injury or damage.
Supervision: The operator must continuously monitor the ÖWAMAT® for leaktightness and correct functioning. Regularly check for leaks. Weekly check the clean water outflow using the reference test kit. Always keep a OEKOSORB® replacement filter set on hand.
Intended Use
The ÖWAMAT® unit is designed for the legally compliant treatment of demulsifiable compressor condensates. Operation must be notified to the local water authority. The unit is suitable for stationary use only and not for hazardous areas. Media/ambient temperature range: +5 to +60 °C.

Function Description
The oil-contaminated condensate is fed under pressure into the ÖWAMAT® unit. Pressure is reduced in the pressure relief chamber, allowing the condensate to flow calmly into the lower container without turbulence. Dirt particles are trapped in the dirt collector.
With Preseparation System (A): Free oil separates from the condensate, rises as droplets, and flows via the oil overflow into a spillage-proof oil collector.
Without Preseparation System (B): The pre-treated condensate passes through a two-stage replacement filter (prefilter and main filter) to bind residual oil. Clean water exits via the water outlet and can be discharged directly into the sewer system. A sampling valve is provided to check wastewater quality.
Installation
Area of Installation: Install on a sealed floor or spill basin to prevent condensate or oil from entering the sewer system in case of damage. The installation surface must be stable and level (max. 1° inclination) for reliable operation.
Condensate Collecting Line: Ensure a continuous downward slope of at least 3°.
Feed Line: Avoid water pockets in the feed hose. Connect up to 4 feed points directly; for more, use a collecting line. Install in a ring system along the wall, with a nominal diameter of G1 (DN 25), slightly higher than the inlet, and a slight downward slope towards the unit.
Water Outlet: Connect hoses to the water outlet and service valve, leading to the wastewater connection with a continuous downward slope. The service valve is closed during operation. Use a siphon for odor sealing.
Oil Collector Connection: Place the oil collector at the same level as the ÖWAMAT® to ensure proper oil discharge. Screw the oil outlet pipe firmly to the collector.
Lifting Tool for OEKOSORB® Filters (ÖWAMAT® 15 + 16): If using a lifting device, observe installation conditions. Note that cartridge wet weight is significantly higher than dry weight; suitable lifting equipment is recommended.
ÖWAMAT® with Heating (Optional): Follow the separate instructions for the heating system. Heating activates automatically below +5 °C and switches off at +15 °C. Overheating protection limits temperature to +75 °C.
Putting into Operation
OEKOSORB® Replacement Filter Set: Ensure the filter is correctly seated before operation. Open the container lid, check filter handles are locked, and fit the prefilter onto the guide pipe when closing the lid.
Fill ÖWAMAT® with Clean Water: Fill the pre-separator with water. Stop when water appears at the outlet. The water level will drop as the filter absorbs water; refill as needed. The unit is then ready for condensate inflow.
Note: Open the condensate drain outlet and check all connections for leaks. The service valve remains closed during operation.
Maintenance
Weekly Wastewater Test: Fill the test glass and compare turbidity to a reference. Clearer water indicates a functional filter. Cloudier water requires filter replacement.
Weekly Oil Collector Check: Replace the collector when it is approximately ⅓ full. Dispose of collected oil as waste oil.
Oil Collector Replacement: Open lid, slide out with discharge pipe, replace with empty collector, then slide discharge pipe back down and close lid tightly.
Adjusting Oil Overflow Pipe: This pipe influences the oil layer thickness. It is factory-set at its lowest position. If condensate accumulates in the oil tank, reposition the pipe upwards (positions 1-3) until no more condensate forms.
Level Indicator Check: If the level indicator is not visible, the filter stages are okay. If a red ring is visible, the main filter stage is clogged and requires replacement. An optional alarm sensor can be fitted for remote monitoring.
Weekly Leak Check: Check containers and connections for leaks.
Filter Replacement: Replace filters if wastewater is cloudy, the filter is clogged, or at least annually. Always use original OEKOSORB® filters. Remove plastic bag before installation. Follow the procedure carefully, including draining residual liquid and proper disposal of used filters.
General Cleaning (Recommended every 12 months): Clean dirt collector, empty and clean pre-separator tank, empty and clean main tank, empty oil collector. Dispose of liquids according to chapter "Disposal". Do not use additional cleaning agents that could impair filter efficiency.
After Cleaning/Maintenance: Insert new filters, refill with clean water, check oil overflow pipe, and reconnect power if heating is installed.
Components
The manual includes a detailed parts list (Bauteile / Components / Nomenclature des pièces / Onderdeeltekening) with corresponding numbers for easy identification of all parts, including the prefilter, main filter, various seals, connectors, and the oil collector.
Spare Parts Available
A list of available spare parts is provided, including OEKOSORB® replacement filter sets, alarm sensors for the level indicator, HP relief chambers, condensate distributors, spill basins, and heating elements, each with corresponding order numbers.
Disposal
All components of the ÖWAMAT® must be dismantled and disposed of separately according to local regulations. Materials include PE-LD for the container/cover/preseparator, POM for the connection adapter, brass for the ball valve, and PP for the oil pipe. Refer to the European Waste Catalogue codes provided for proper disposal.
