Victron Energy MultiPlus-II 4k5/6k5 230V Inverter/Charger
Product Overview
The Victron Energy MultiPlus-II is a versatile inverter/charger designed for professional marine, yachting, vehicle, and off-grid applications. It offers all the features of the renowned MultiPlus inverter/charger, enhanced with an external current sensor option to extend PowerControl and PowerAssist capabilities up to 50 A and 100 A. The unit also includes a built-in anti-islanding function, making it suitable for various system configurations, including those integrating solar energy.
Key Features
PowerControl and PowerAssist
These functions allow for boosting grid or generator power capacity. The maximum grid or generator current can be set. PowerControl prevents overload by managing battery charging and other AC loads, while PowerAssist compensates for insufficient grid or generator power by drawing from the battery during peak demand. Surplus power is then used to recharge the battery.
Solar Energy Integration
The MultiPlus-II can be used with grid-connected PV and other alternative energy systems, even when not connected to the grid. It is compatible with solar charge controller units and grid-connected inverters, enabling AC power availability even during grid failures.
Dual AC Outputs
The main power output provides an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) function, switching to loads in less than 20 milliseconds during grid failures. The second power output operates only when AC is available at the input and is suitable for non-critical loads that do not drain the battery, such as water heaters. Loads on the second output are managed by PowerControl and PowerAssist.
Parallel and Three-Phase Operation
Up to six MultiPlus-II units can be paralleled for increased power output. Three units of the same model can be configured for three-phase output, and up to six such three-phase setups can be paralleled.
System Configuration and Monitoring
System settings can be quickly configured using VEConfigure software (requires a desktop/laptop and MK3-USB interface). Monitoring and control options include Ekrano GX, Cerbo GX, Venus GX, laptops, desktop computers, Bluetooth (with optional VE.Bus Smart dongle), battery monitors, and the Digital Multi Control Panel.
Remote Configuration and Monitoring
Connecting a Cerbo GX or other GX product allows internet access for remote system monitoring and configuration via the VRM (Victron Remote Management) website. Operational data is stored and viewable for free on the VRM portal, with the ability to make setting changes remotely.
System Diagrams
Standard Marine, Mobile, or Off-Grid Applications
This diagram illustrates a typical setup for marine, mobile, or off-grid use. It shows the connections between the Grid, Generator, Battery, and Loads, with the MultiPlus-II as the central power management unit. Loads that should shut down when AC input power is unavailable can be connected to a secondary output, managed by PowerControl and PowerAssist to limit input current.
Parallel Grid Topology with MPPT Solar Charge Controller
This diagram depicts a parallel grid topology incorporating an MPPT solar charge controller. It shows a PV array connected to an MPPT solar charger, which then interfaces with the Battery and the MultiPlus-II. The system also connects to the Grid and Loads. The MultiPlus-II utilizes data from an external AC current sensor or power meter to optimize self-consumption and manage grid feed-in, ensuring critical loads remain powered during outages.
