Operating Instructions
Congratulations on the purchase of your B2016, 24” Band Saw. Like all Craftex products, the B2016 will give you years of excellent service. Your B2016 has been shipped fully assembled except for the included 176 ¼” blade.
Unpacking
Place the B2016 in its final operating position while still in its crate due to its extreme weight. Exercise caution when unpacking, as crate wood may contain sharp nails and splinters. Position the band saw on a level, solid surface capable of supporting its 320kg weight.
Cleaning
The band saw may be packed with a protective lubricant on exposed metal surfaces. This can be removed with mineral spirits and then dried. Apply a coating of paste wax to affected areas and buff dry to prevent oxidation of cast-iron surfaces in damp conditions.
Blade Installation
Disconnect the band saw from the power source. Open the upper and lower blade wheel doors and remove the table insert. Loosen the saw blade tension control. Carefully insert the band saw blade through the table slot with the teeth facing outward. Ensure the blade sits on the center of the upper and lower wheels and between the blade bearing guides.
Fine Tuning the Blade
Once the blade is on the wheels, position it between the upper and lower blade guides. Tension the blade by turning the blade-tensioning knob clockwise. Rotate the blade slowly by hand to check its position on the wheels and tires. Adjust the blade alignment controls to center the blade on the crest of the tires. Adjust the upper and lower blade guides to sit just behind the gullets of the saw blade, touching it lightly without hindering vertical alignment.
Table Leveling
After blade installation, ensure the cast-iron table is square to the saw blade. Raise the blade guard and use a try square to verify accuracy. If there is variation, loosen the table tilting trunion release lever until the table is level, then tighten the lever. A stop-bolt under the rear of the table helps ensure it returns to 90° after angle adjustments; adjust its nuts accordingly. Periodically check the table for squareness.
Sawing
The B2016 offers two speeds: 2,800 and 3,500 RPM, selectable based on the work and wood species. To change speeds, disconnect power, open the lower wheel door. The idler pulley and motor have a tension adjustment mechanism. The machine ships set to 2,800 RPM. To switch to 3,500 RPM, move the belt to the larger groove on the motor pulley and the smaller groove on the idler pulley. Tighten before closing the door.
Blade Guard
The B2016 features a rack and pinion blade guard, raised and lowered by a wheel on the upper frame's rear. Clockwise rotation raises the guard; counter-clockwise lowers it. A lock-knob secures the guard. Position the blade guard approximately ¼" above the workpiece.
Rip Fence / Miter Gauge
The B2016 includes a cast-iron Rip Fence, pre-assembled to the saw fence. A front knob loosens the fence for repositioning. The Rip Fence can be used on either side of the blade. The standard T-slot miter gauge has features for accuracy, including positive stops. The 'washer' on the gauge's tail can be removed by loosening its screw if necessary.
Foot Brake
The machine's wheels and blade may continue to spin briefly after the magnetic power switch is turned off. A foot brake is located in the lower front for quickly stopping the blade. It is easily accessible and simple to operate by stepping on it.
Dust Management
Sawdust can be a toxic substance. The B2016 has a dust port in the lower front for connecting a dust collection system via adapters.
Tires
Sawdust buildup on the band saw wheels' neoprene tires can cause imbalance and vibrations. Craftex includes a brush to help alleviate this. Regularly check the brush's efficiency. Ensure the power source is disconnected when performing this check.
Power
The B2016 is powered by a 3HP, 220-volt, single-phase motor activated by a magnetic switch mounted on the frame. The switch is pre-wired but requires hard-wiring to your electrical power source. IMPORTANT: DO NOT MAKE ANY ALTERATIONS TO THE B2016 WHILE CONNECTED TO THE ELECTRICAL POWER SOURCE.
