Setup
Install or Replace Batteries
AcuRite recommends high-quality alkaline batteries for the best product performance. Heavy-duty or rechargeable batteries are not recommended. The freezer sensor requires lithium batteries for low-temperature conditions, as cold temperatures can cause alkaline batteries to function improperly.
- Thermometer Display:
- Lift up the battery door and slide off the battery compartment cover.
- Insert 2 x AAA batteries into the battery compartment, following the polarity (+/-) diagram.
- Replace the battery cover.
- Sensors:
- Slide off the battery compartment covers, located on the front of the units.
- Insert 2 x AA batteries into the battery compartment, following the polarity (+/-) diagram.
- Replace the battery cover.
Illustrations show how to install batteries in the display unit (requiring 2x AAA) and the wireless sensors (requiring 2x AA). It also depicts battery type recommendations, showing lithium batteries suitable for temperatures below -4°F (-20°C) and alkaline batteries for standard use, with their respective temperature ranges.
Select Degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius
To select between degrees Fahrenheit (°F) or Celsius (°C) temperature units, slide the "°C/°F" switch, located on the back of the thermometer display.
BATTERY SAFETY: Clean the battery contacts and device contacts prior to installation. Remove batteries from equipment not used for extended periods. Follow polarity diagrams. Promptly remove dead batteries. Dispose of used batteries properly. Use only the same or equivalent battery type. DO NOT incinerate, dispose of in fire, mix old/new or different battery types, use rechargeable batteries, recharge non-rechargeable batteries, or short-circuit terminals.
Placement
Display Unit Placement
Place the display unit in a dry area free of dirt and dust. The display is magnet-mountable. For wall mounting, hang using the keyhole located on the back of the unit.
Sensor Placement
Sensor #1 should be placed in the REFRIGERATOR. Sensor #2 should be placed in the FREEZER. Note: Both sensors will work in either location, however, default alerts are based on this recommended placement.
Each sensor is equipped with a spring-action clip with a rubber grip to securely attach to the edge of a glass or wire shelf. Each sensor also includes a detachable suction cup that can be used to attach the sensor to the interior surface of the refrigerator. Please note: suction cups do not adhere well to freezing surfaces.
Diagrams illustrate sensor placement. Sensor #1 is shown clipped to a refrigerator shelf (A) and attached via a suction cup to the interior wall (B). Sensor #2 is shown similarly placed in a freezer. The diagram emphasizes that sensors can be clipped to shelves or attached to interior surfaces.
The display unit and sensors must be located within 75 ft (23 m) of each other.
Operation
Using the Thermometer
High & Low Records
The thermometer records high and low temperature records for each sensor. These readings reflect the highest and lowest temperatures recorded since the batteries were inserted or since the CLR button was last pressed. To reset the High/Low records, press and release the "CLR" button once. This clears the records from both sensors.
Programmable Alarms
Programmable alarms notify you audibly and visually when temperatures exceed your preset minimum/maximum temperature range. An alert is triggered when a temperature is out of range for longer than 15 minutes. This prevents false alarms due to the fridge/freezer door being held open while new items are loaded/unloaded.
The default temperature alarm settings for Sensor #1 (refrigerator) are minimum 33°F / maximum 40°F. The default settings for Sensor #2 (freezer) are minimum -22°F / maximum 0°F.
To customize temperature alarms:
- Press and HOLD the [alarm] button until the current temperature disappears and the maximum temperature alarm setting is shown.
- Press the [plus] or [minus] buttons to increase or decrease the maximum temperature alarm setting.
- Press the [alarm] button to confirm the maximum temperature alarm setting. The unit will beep, and the minimum temperature alarm setting will be shown.
- Press the [plus] or [minus] buttons to increase or decrease the minimum temperature alarm setting.
- Press the [alarm] button to confirm the minimum temperature alarm setting.
- Press the [alarm] button to turn ON/OFF the alarm. The "ALARM" icon on the display indicates that the alarm is ON.
For Alarm #2, repeat steps 1 through 5 using the [alarm] button.
NOTE: When the thermometer is in normal operating mode (not in alarm setup mode), the High/Low readings display the highest/lowest temperature recordings.
