Important Information
This document provides instructions for the Sony XAV-1500 AV Receiver. For detailed information, refer to the specific sections.
Note: For cancelling the display demonstration (Demo mode), see page 6. For connection/installation instructions, see page 11. For using smartphones with 'WebLink Apps' installed, see the Reference Guide on the back cover.

Safety Precautions:
- For safety, always install this unit on the car dashboard, as the rear of the unit heats up during operation. See "Connection/Installation" (p. 11) for details.
- The rating plate indicating operating voltage and other electrical characteristics is located on the bottom panel of the unit.
- The CE marking is valid only in countries where it is legally in force, mainly in the EEA (European Economic Area) and Switzerland.
- WARNING: To prevent fire or electric shock, do not expose the unit to rain or moisture. Do not open the unit casing to avoid electric shock. For servicing, consult only qualified personnel.
- The manufacturing date is indicated on the product and packaging in the format: MM.YYYY (MM – month, YYYY – year).
- This is a double-DIN car stereo with Bluetooth.
- Storage Conditions: Store products in their original packaging in dark, dry, clean, well-ventilated areas, away from sources of acids and alkalis. Storage temperature: -20 to +60 °C. Storage relative humidity: Not exceeding 80%, without condensation. Storage period is not specified.
- Disposal of Used Batteries and Electronic Equipment: (Directive applicable in EU countries and other countries with separate collection systems).
- If the ignition switch has no ACC position: Do not install this unit in a car without an ACC position. The unit's display will not turn off even after the ignition is turned off, which may drain the battery.

Radio Transmitter: This product includes a radio transmitter. Vehicle manufacturers may specify certain conditions for installing radio transmitters in vehicles. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual or contact the dealer where you purchased it before installing this product.
Emergency Calls: This hands-free car kit and any connected electronic device operate using radio signals, cellular, and landline networks, as well as user-programmable functions. Connection is not guaranteed under all conditions. Therefore, do not rely solely on any single electronic device for critical situations, such as requiring emergency medical assistance.
BLUETOOTH Communication:
- BLUETOOTH device microwave radiation may affect electronic medical devices. Turn off this unit and other BLUETOOTH devices in the following locations; failure to do so may cause an accident:
- In places with flammable gas, in hospitals, on trains, on airplanes, or at gas stations.
- Near automatic doors or fire alarm systems.
- This unit supports BLUETOOTH security features for secure wireless connections. However, existing security settings may be insufficient. Exercise caution when using BLUETOOTH wireless technology for data exchange.
- Sony is not responsible for any information leaks during BLUETOOTH communication sessions.
If you have questions or problems regarding this unit that are not covered in this manual, contact your nearest Sony dealer.
Main Unit Controls and Display
Main Unit Diagram:
The main unit features a touchscreen display, a HOME button, an ATT (Mute) function, an OPTION button, a Volume Knob, a USB port, and an AUX input.
- 1. Display/Touchscreen: The primary interface for interaction.
- 2. HOME Button: Press to navigate to the HOME screen (see page 5).
- ATT (Mute): Press and hold for 1 second to mute the audio. To cancel, press and hold again or turn the volume knob.
- 3. Volume Knob: Turn to adjust the volume during audio playback.
- OPTION Button: Press to navigate to the OPTION screen (see page 5).
- 4. USB Port: For connecting USB devices.
- 5. AUX Input Jack: For connecting external audio sources.
On-Screen Elements:
The unit's interface includes various screens and indicators:
- Playback Screen: Displays playback controls and information.
- HOME Screen: Provides access to main functions and sources.
- OPTION Screen: Offers additional settings and options.
- Status Indicators:
- ATT: Indicates when audio is muted.
- AF: Shows when AF (Alternative Frequency) mode is available.
- TA: Indicates when traffic information is available (TA: Traffic Announcements).
- [Bluetooth Icon]: Lights up when Bluetooth is active; flashes during connection setup.
- [A2DP Icon]: Indicates A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) is active for audio playback.
- [HFP Icon]: Indicates HFP (Hands-Free Profile) is active for phone calls.
- Signal Strength: Displays the signal strength of the connected mobile phone.
- Battery Level: Shows the remaining battery charge of the connected mobile phone.
- [Source Mode Icon] (Source Mode): Access the source selection menu. Available sources depend on the connected devices.
- Application Area: Displays indicators, playback controls, or device status relevant to the current source.
- Clock: Shows the time set via the "Date/Time" setting.
- [Return to Playback Screen Icon]: Navigates from the HOME screen back to the Playback screen.
- Source and Settings Buttons: Used to change the audio source or adjust various settings. Scroll through options and touch to select. Available sources include Tuner, BT Audio, Phone, USB, WebLink, AUX, and Rear Cam.
Getting Started:
- Sound Settings: Adjust sound output.
- [Standby Icon] (Standby Mode): Puts the unit into standby mode (USB charging remains active). Press any button to resume operation.
- [Monitor Off Icon] (Turn Off Monitor): Turns off the display. Touch any part of the screen to turn it back on.
- EXTRA (EXTRA BASS): Adjusts the EXTRA BASS setting.
- ࠠ (EQ10/Subwoofer): Adjusts EQ10/Subwoofer settings.
Bluetooth Pairing:
To connect a BLUETOOTH device for the first time, you must pair them. This allows devices to recognize each other.
- Press HOME and touch [Settings] → [Bluetooth] → [Bluetooth Connection] → [ON] → [Pairing]. The [Bluetooth Icon] will flash while the unit is in pairing standby mode.
- Pair the BLUETOOTH device so it can detect this unit.
- Select the model name displayed on the BLUETOOTH device*. When pairing is complete, the [Bluetooth Icon] will light up steadily. (*If the BLUETOOTH device asks for a passkey, enter [0000]).
Rear Camera Connection:
Connect an optional rear camera to the CAMERA IN jack to view its image on the screen. Refer to "Connection/Installation" (p. 11) for details. To display the rear camera image, press HOME and touch [Rear Cam.].
Cancelling Demo Mode:
- Press HOME and touch [Settings].
- Touch [General], then [Demo Mode] to set to [OFF].
- To exit the settings menu, touch the [Back Icon] (back) twice.
Additional Information
Firmware Update: To update firmware, visit the support website (address on back cover) and follow online instructions. Note: Do not disconnect the USB device during the update.
Precautions:
- The powered antenna extends automatically during operation.
- Before disposing of or transferring ownership of the vehicle, reset the unit to factory settings.
- Do not spill liquids on the unit.
- Safety: Observe traffic laws and regulations.
- While Driving: Do not look at or operate the screen while driving. This can lead to accidents. Park in a safe place to operate or view the screen. Do not attempt to adjust settings or use other functions while driving, as you may lose control of the road situation. When reversing, look behind and assess the surroundings carefully, even with a rear camera. Do not rely solely on the rear camera.
- While Operating: Do not insert hands, fingers, or foreign objects into the unit, as this may cause injury or damage. Keep small objects away from children. Always wear seatbelts to avoid injury in case of sudden braking.
- Preventing Accidents: The image appears only after stopping the vehicle and engaging the parking brake. If the vehicle starts moving during video playback, the following warning will appear and video playback will stop: "[Video blocked for safety.]" Do not attempt to operate or view the screen while driving.
LCD Panel and Touchscreen
LCD Panel Care:
- Do not wet the LCD panels and prevent liquids from spilling on them, as this may cause malfunction.
- Do not press the LCD panel forcefully, as this may distort the image or damage the panel.
- Touch the panel only with your fingertip. Using other objects may cause damage.
- Wipe the LCD panel with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use solvents (e.g., gasoline, thinner), household cleaners, or anti-static sprays.
- Use the unit at temperatures from 0°C to 40°C.
- If the car is parked in extreme cold or heat, the image may be unclear. This does not mean the monitor is damaged; the image will clear once the temperature normalizes.
- The screen may display stationary blue, red, or green dots (bright pixels). This is a characteristic of LCD technology and does not indicate a malfunction.
Touchscreen Operation:
- This unit uses a resistive touchscreen. Touch the screen directly with your fingertip.
- The unit does not support multi-touch input.
- Do not touch the screen with sharp objects (needles, pens, fingernails). A stylus is not supported.
- Ensure only your fingertip touches the screen. Other objects may cause incorrect reactions.
- The screen is made of glass; protect it from impact. If cracks appear, do not touch the damaged area to avoid injury.
- Keep electrical devices away from the touchscreen to prevent malfunction.
About iPhone:

Connection and Installation
Precautions:
- Do not install if the car lacks an ACC position; the display will remain on, draining the battery.
- Connect all ground wires to a common ground point.
- Ensure wires are not caught by screws or moving parts.
- Turn off the car ignition before making connections to prevent short circuits.
- Connect the power cable [①] to the unit and speakers first, then to the accessory jack.
- Insulate all unconnected wires with electrical tape for safety.
- Choose an installation location that does not obstruct vehicle operation.
- Avoid installing in dusty, dirty, excessively vibrating, or high-temperature areas (e.g., direct sunlight, near heater vents).
- Use only included mounting parts for secure installation.
- Note on Power Wire (Yellow): The car's power circuit fuse rating must exceed the total fuse rating of all connected components.
- Note for Cars with Start-Stop System: Engine start-stop may cause the unit to restart. Disable the start-stop system in your car.
- Note for Cars with Electric Parking Brake: Some functions (e.g., video lock) may not operate correctly.
- Tilt Adjustment: Adjust the tilt angle to be less than 30°.

The unit includes a pre-attached mounting sleeve [⑥]. Use release keys [⑧] to remove it before installation. Keep release keys [⑧] for future use.
Wiring Diagram Overview:
The unit connects to various car systems including speakers, power, antenna, camera, microphone, and remote control. Specific connections are detailed in the following sections.
- Speaker Connections: Connect speakers to the corresponding terminals on the unit, noting wire colors and polarity (e.g., Front Left: White/White-Black, Front Right: Grey/Grey-Black, Rear Left: Green/Green-Black, Rear Right: Purple/Purple-Black). Ensure speaker impedance is 4-8 Ohms.
- Power Connections: Connect to the car's power supply (Constant Power, Ignition Power, Ground) and accessory outputs (Powered Antenna/Amp Remote Out, Illumination Power). Wire colors for these connections are typically Yellow, Red, Black, Blue/White stripe, and Orange/White stripe, respectively.
- Parking Brake Connection: Connect the unit's light green wire to the car's parking brake switch wire. This is crucial for enabling certain features like video playback.
- Reverse Light Connection (for Rear Camera): Connect to the +12V terminal of the reverse light for rear camera activation.
Microphone Installation:
Install the microphone [③] for voice commands and calls. Mount it on the dashboard or A-pillar, ensuring the cable does not obstruct driving. Use the included bracket and adhesive tape.
Power Connection Diagrams:
Detailed diagrams illustrate power connections for various car configurations, including vehicles with ACC positions and those without. Ensure correct wire matching (e.g., Yellow for constant power, Red for ignition power).
Installation in Japanese Cars:
Installation in some Japanese cars may require specific procedures or brackets. Consult your dealer if you encounter difficulties. Use the provided screws [②] for mounting.
Fuse Replacement:
If a fuse blows, replace it with one of the same rating (10 A). If the fuse blows again, contact a Sony dealer.
Removing the Mounting Sleeve:
Insert release keys [⑧] into the slots on the unit and pull the mounting sleeve [⑥] downwards. Then, pull the unit upwards to detach it.
Mounting the Unit in the Dashboard:
Secure the mounting sleeve [⑥] in the dashboard opening by bending the tabs outwards. Ensure the unit slides in smoothly and locks into place.
Using the Rear Camera:
Before using the rear camera (not included), ensure it is properly installed and connected to the CAMERA IN jack. The image will display if the reverse gear is engaged or the reverse light is active, and you touch [Rear Cam.] on the HOME screen.
