Overview
KombiTool Components
- 1 Machine Support: For resting the KombiTool on the ground.
- 2 Blades: Used for cutting weeds and grass.
- 3 Rider Plate: Covers the blade mounting.
- 4 Protective cap: Covers the end of the drive tube.
- 5 Mark: Defines the depth the KombiTool must be inserted into the KombiMotor.
- 6 Drive Tube: Connects the KombiTool to the KombiMotor.
- 7 Screw: Secures the rider plate to the KombiTool.
- 8 Transport Guard: Helps protect the user from contact with blades.
- 9 Blade Mounting: Serves to secure the blades.
- 10 Gearbox: Encloses the gearbox.
- 11 Screw Plug: Closes the filler opening for STIHL gear grease.
Symbols on the KombiTool: A symbol may mark the filler opening for STIHL gear grease. Ensure the drive tube is pushed into the coupling sleeve as far as the mark.

Intended Use
The STIHL RG-KM KombiTool is designed for removing weeds and mowing grass when combined with a STIHL KombiMotor. Using it for other purposes may cause serious injury or property damage. Always use the KombiTool as described in this manual and the KombiMotor as described in its respective manual.
The Operator
Users must be rested, in good physical and mental condition, of legal age or trained under supervision, able to recognize risks, and have received prior instruction from a STIHL dealer or experienced user. Do not operate under the influence of alcohol, medication, or drugs. Contact a STIHL servicing dealer for assistance if you have queries.
Clothing & Equipment
Wear close-fitting safety glasses (tested to EN 166 or national regulations), hearing protection, sturdy closed-toed footwear with high-grip soles, long trousers made from resistant material, close-fitting clothing, and work gloves. Remove scarves and jewelry.
Work Area
Keep bystanders, children, and animals at least 5 meters (17 ft) away. Maintain a 3-meter clearance from objects. Do not leave the tool unattended. Ensure children cannot play with it.
Safe Condition
KombiTool: Must be undamaged, clean, correctly mounted with original STIHL accessories. Blades: Must be undamaged, not deformed, properly mounted, and burr-free.
Operation
Work calmly and carefully. Avoid poor light/visibility. Keep the KombiTool close to the ground and maintain good balance. Take breaks when tired. Do not touch moving blades. If blades are blocked, switch off the KombiMotor and remove the obstruction. Be aware that blades continue to move for a few seconds after releasing the throttle. Sparks from contact with hard objects can cause fire; do not work in combustible locations. Sharpen blades as needed.
⚠️ DANGER:
Working near live electric cables can cause serious or fatal injury. Avoid live and buried cables.
Transporting
The gear housing can get hot. Fit the transport guard. Secure the tool to prevent movement during transport.
Storing
Keep out of reach of children. Store clean and dry to prevent corrosion.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Clean with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh detergents or water jets. Do not attempt self-repair; contact a STIHL dealer. Wear gloves when cleaning blades.
Preparing KombiTool for Operation
Before starting work, ensure the following components are in a safe condition:
- KombiTool (refer to section 4.6.1)
- KombiMotor (as described in its instruction manual)
Perform the following steps:
- Clean the KombiTool (refer to section 12.1).
- Connect the drive tube to the gearbox (refer to section 6.1).
- Mount the KombiTool on the KombiMotor (refer to section 6.2.1).
If using a KombiMotor with a loop handle, mount a barrier bar as described in the KombiMotor's manual. Use a carrying system (section 8.1). If these steps cannot be performed, do not use the KombiTool and contact a STIHL servicing dealer.
Assembling the KombiTool
Connecting Drive Tube to Gear Housing
To connect the drive tube to the gear housing: Remove protective caps (1) from both ends of the drive tube (2). Loosen the screw (6). Push the drive tube (2) into the gear housing (5) and rotate it until the gear shaft (4) engages. Tighten the screw (6) moderately. Align the drive tube (2) so that the lug (3) faces up. Tighten down the screw (6) firmly. The drive tube does not need to be removed again.

Mounting the KombiTool
To mount the KombiTool: Loosen the wing screw (1). Align the lug (4) and the slot (3). Push the drive tube (5) into the coupling sleeve (2) as far as it will go, ensuring the red line (6) is flush with the coupling sleeve (2). Tighten down the wing screw (1) firmly.
Removing the KombiTool
To remove the KombiTool: Fit the transport guard. Loosen the wing screw on the KombiTool. Pull the drive tube out of the KombiTool.
Checking the KombiTool
Checking the Blades
To check the blades: Switch off the KombiMotor. Measure the following points: length (a), width (b), and angle (c). Compare these measurements to the specifications (section 15.2). If the minimum length is less than specified, offset the blades (section 13.4). If the minimum width is less than specified, replace the blades (section 13.3). If the filing angle is incorrect, sharpen the blades (section 13.5). Contact a STIHL servicing dealer if you have queries.
Using the KombiTool
Holding and Controlling the KombiTool
To hold the KombiMotor: With your right hand, grip the control handle and wrap your thumb around it. With your left hand, grip the loop handle (or other handle) and wrap your thumb around it.
Weeding and Mowing Grass
For weeding and mowing grass: The cutting height is determined by the distance of the blades from the ground. Hook the KombiMotor's carrying ring to the carrying system's carabiner. Swing the KombiTool back and forth in an arc. Walk slowly and steadily forwards.
After Finishing Work
Switch off the KombiMotor. If the KombiTool is wet, allow it to dry. Clean the KombiTool. Fit the transport guard.
Transporting
Transporting the KombiTool
Switch off the KombiMotor. Fit the transport guard. Carry the KombiTool by the drive tube. When transporting in a vehicle, secure the KombiTool to prevent turnover and movement.
Storing
Storing the KombiTool
Switch off the KombiMotor. Fit the transport guard. Ensure the KombiTool is out of the reach of children and is stored clean and dry to prevent corrosion.
Cleaning
Cleaning the KombiTool
Switch off the KombiMotor and allow the gear housing to cool down. Clean the KombiTool with a damp cloth. Avoid harsh detergents, water jets, or sharp objects.
Cleaning the Blades
Switch off the KombiMotor. Spray the blades with STIHL resin solvent and switch on the KombiMotor for 5 seconds to distribute the solvent evenly.
Maintenance
Maintenance Intervals
STIHL recommends lubricating the gearbox after every 25 hours of operation. Maintenance intervals depend on operating conditions.
Lubricating the Gearbox
To lubricate the gearbox: Switch off the KombiMotor. Remove the screw plug (2). If no grease is visible, screw in the STIHL gear grease tube (1) and pump 10g of grease into the gear housing. Unscrew the tube (1) and refit the screw plug (2) firmly. Run the KombiMotor for 1 minute to distribute the grease.

Blade edges are sharp. Wear durable work gloves. Switch off the KombiMotor. Remove screw (1) clockwise. Remove the rider plate (2). Remove screws (3) counterclockwise to remove blade (4). Remove screws (5) counterclockwise to remove blade (6).
Mounting the Blades
⚠️ WARNING:
Blade edges are sharp. Wear durable work gloves. Switch off the KombiMotor. Fit blade (1). Insert screws (2) clockwise and tighten. Fit blade (3). Insert screws (4) clockwise and tighten. Fit rider plate (5). Fit screw (6) and tighten counterclockwise.
Offsetting the Blades
⚠️ WARNING:
Blade edges are sharp. Wear durable work gloves. Switch off the KombiMotor. Remove the blades and remount them offset by 120 degrees. Replace blades if they have already been offset twice. Contact a STIHL dealer for assistance.
Sharpening the Blades
⚠️ WARNING:
Blade edges are sharp. Wear durable work gloves. Switch off the KombiMotor. Remove the blades. Use a STIHL flat crosscut file to sharpen the cutting edge (2) on the forward stroke, maintaining the specified sharpening angle (section 15.2). Sharpen other cutting edges and remount the blades. Contact a STIHL dealer for assistance.
Repairing
Repairing the KombiTool
The KombiTool cannot be repaired by the user. If the KombiTool is damaged, do not use it and contact your STIHL servicing dealer for assistance.

Contact local authorities or your STIHL dealer for disposal information. Improper disposal can harm health and the environment. Take STIHL products and packaging to a suitable recycling collection point according to local regulations. Do not dispose of with domestic waste.
