Setup 1: Mounting and Connection
Mount your new Yeti GX microphone to either the included desktop stand or a boom arm.
Plug the USB-C end of the cable into the port at the bottom of the microphone.
Plug the USB-A end of the cable into your computer.
Visuals show the microphone being attached to a stand and a boom arm, and the USB-C cable connecting to the microphone's base, then the USB-A end connecting to a computer.
Setup 2: Microphone Orientation
IMPORTANT! Be sure the flat part of the windscreen is pointing towards you! ?
Two illustrations show correct (✔️) and incorrect (❌) microphone placement relative to the speaker. The correct placement has the flat side of the mic grille facing the speaker.
Setup 3: Software Configuration
Open any streaming or recording software with audio configuration.
(Visual: Streamlabs Ultra logo with text indicating a free trial.)
Within the software's settings, you may need to select Yeti GX as the active microphone.
Screenshots show a software mixer interface with "Desktop Audio" and "Mic/Aux" levels, and a "Sound Settings" panel where "Microphone (2-Yeti GX)" can be selected as the device.
Setup 4: Adjusting Microphone Gain
The scroll wheel adjusts your microphone gain. While speaking in a normal voice that you would use while streaming or recording, adjust the gain by scrolling the wheel. Scrolling the wheel up will increase gain while scrolling down will reduce gain.
An illustration shows the microphone with a close-up of the scroll wheel, indicating that scrolling up increases gain and scrolling down decreases it.
Setup 5: Understanding LED Indicators
The LED on the scroll wheel also indicates if the mic is being used:
- Solid white: Your mic is powered on. ⚪
- Solid green: Your mic is actively delivering audio. ?
- Flashing red: Your gain level is too high, causing clipping or distortion. It's best to turn it down. ?❗
- Solid red: Your microphone is muted. Press the mute button by the scroll wheel to mute or unmute. ?✋
Four close-up illustrations of the scroll wheel showing the LED in different states: solid white, solid green, flashing red, and solid red, each corresponding to the described status.
Setup 6: Smart Audio Lock
After you are happy with the gain setting, click the wheel to enable Smart Audio Lock. The LED on the wheel will turn Cyan when enabled.
Smart Audio Lock: Smartly adjusts your gain by using an analog limiter to prevent clipping and a downward expander to reduce ambient background noise. When enabled, the scroll wheel will not change gain. Click again to unlock before making any changes.
