Introduction
Existing DARWIN instruments can be replaced with GX/GP/GM models to suit current and future application needs. This guide explains the replacement process in three main parts:
- Replacing DARWIN with the GX/GP.
- Replacing DARWIN with the GM.
- Other Replacement Suggestions (applicable to GX, GP, and GM).
Visual Description: A diagram illustrates the replacement concept. On the left, various DARWIN series units are shown: DR240, DR230, DR130 (Portable Recorder), DC100 (Data Acquisition Unit), DA100 (Data Acquisition Unit). These are grouped under "DARWIN". An arrow points from DARWIN to two groups on the right: "GX/GP" (showing GX20, GP20, GX10, GP10, GX60) and "GM" (showing Main unit, Subunit). This visually represents the migration path from DARWIN to SMARTDAC+ (GX/GP/GM).

- Up to 420 ch: A GM unit showing connections for up to 6 modules. An expansion module connects to a Main unit. LAN cable (CAT5 or later) is used.
- Chain up to 6 subunits: By combining a main unit with subunits (Multi unit system), up to 420 channels can be measured.
- Reduce wiring with distributed installation: When the site (DUT) and datalogger are in different locations, the sub unit can be placed at the site to monitor without long-distance signal wiring of thermocouples and other sensors. This setup shows a main unit connected to up to 6 modules, which then connect to a Subunit. Up to 100 m distance is possible between units.
2-6 System Configuration Comparison (Maximum Configuration)
This section compares the maximum configurations of DARWIN and GM10-2 large memory models.
Visual Description: Two diagrams illustrate maximum system configurations.
- DARWIN (Up to 300 ch): Shows a Main unit (DR242/DR232 or DA100) connected to up to 6 subunits (DS600). Input modules cannot be connected to the main unit, only alarm output and DI/DO (up to 3 units). Total length of up to 500 m with extension cables (DV200).
- GM10-2 (Up to 420 ch): Shows a GM Main unit connected to up to 6 modules and up to 6 Subunits. I/O modules can be connected. Up to 9 modules can be connected to the main unit. Up to 100 m distance is possible between units using a shielded LAN STP cable.

The mounting holes are M4 with a depth of 3 mm (0.12 inches) or more. Tolerance: ± 0.3mm.
3 Other Replacement Suggestions (applicable to GX, GP, and GM)
3-1 When Using Data Acquisition Software (Sold Separately)
DAQ32Plus and DAQLOGGER can be replaced with GA10. Switching to GA10 provides data acquisition at 100 ms, connectivity with up to 100 units, and access to up to 2000 channels. The system can be managed with multilogging (multiple asynchronous data acquisitions) and user privileges (4 levels: owner, manager, operator, and monitor).
Visual Description: A diagram illustrates the data flow and replacement process. Existing DARWIN units (DA100, DR240, DR230) are shown. Data from these units flows to DAQ32Plus or DAQLOGGER software. The replacement shows GA10 Data Logging Software, which offers multilogging, user privilege settings, connectivity with up to 100 units and 2000 channels, 100 ms data acquisition interval, and a data supplementing (backfill) function. Ethernet connection is shown between the DARWIN units and the GX/GP or GM units. The backfill function allows auto reconnection and data backfill after communication loss. Note: DC100 is not supported.
3-2 DARWIN Compatible Communication Functions
Replacing existing programs with the GX/GP/GM
The GX/GP supports DARWIN commands (with a few exceptions), allowing existing programs created for data acquisition on DARWIN to be used with GX/GP/GM. Support includes Ethernet, RS-232 (GX/GP only), and RS-422/485.
Users must match their GX/GP/GM system and module configurations with those of the DARWIN system. DARWIN compatible communication functions cannot be used to connect with DAQ32, DAQ32Plus, or DAQLOGGER.
Visual Description: A diagram shows a "Previously created program" sending "DARWIN Command" via Ethernet. This command is received by "Existing DARWIN" units (DA100, DR240/DR230/DR130). The replacement path shows the "DARWIN compatible communication" module within GX/GP and GM Main unit, which then connect to Expandable I/O GX60 and Subunit respectively, maintaining compatibility.

3-3 Replacing Existing DARWIN units in Stages
This section describes a phased replacement approach for existing DARWIN units.
When using data acquisition software (sold separately)
The GA10 data logging software can be added while keeping existing DAQ32Plus or DAQLOGGER. Data can be centralized in one application, and DARWIN units can be replaced in stages. DAQ32Plus and DAQLOGGER tag settings can be used without modifications.
Visual Description: A diagram shows the staged replacement. Initially, "Existing, as-is" DARWIN units (DA100) connect to DAQ32Plus/DAQLOGGER. Data flows to GA10. Eventually, the DARWIN units are replaced by GX/GP or GM units, which then connect to GA10. GA10 offers multilogging, user privilege settings, connectivity with up to 100 units/2000 channels, 100 ms acquisition interval, and data supplementing (backfill) function. Note: DC100 is not supported.
With the CENTUM Production Control System
With DARWIN compatible communication, existing DARWIN units can be replaced in stages, allowing for phased replacements and avoiding large up-front investment.
Visual Description: A diagram shows CENTUM Production control system interacting with DARWIN units via "DARWIN commands" and "Measure data" over Ethernet. The replacement shows GX/GP and GM Main units with "DARWIN compatible communication" modules, which then connect to Expandable I/O GX60 and Subunit respectively. Note: Users must match their GM system and module configurations with those of the DARWIN.
3-4 Modbus connection with production control systems (CENTUM)
Measured data can be acquired through Modbus connection by reading GM internal registers from CENTUM. Replacing DARWIN is easy.
Visual Description: A diagram shows a CENTUM Production control system with a "Modbus Client" reading "GM internal register" (Input register 3XXXXX). "Measure data" flows via Modbus/TCP. Existing DARWIN units (DA100) are replaced by GM Main units and Subunits, which act as "Modbus Server" and "Modbus Register".
