TP-Link Archer AX80 Quick Installation Guide
1. Connect the Hardware
Follow these steps to establish the physical connection for your TP-Link Archer AX80 router.
Prepare the Modem: Unplug the power from your modem. If it has a backup battery, remove it.

Connect Modem to Router: Connect the powered-off modem to the router’s 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN port using an Ethernet cable. If your internet service comes directly from an Ethernet outlet (without a DSL, Cable, or Satellite modem), connect the router’s 2.5 Gbps WAN/LAN port to it.
Note: To use the 1 Gbps WAN/LAN port as the WAN port, refer to the 'Need Help?' section (Q1).

Power On Devices: Power on the modem first. Wait approximately 2 minutes for it to restart and establish a connection.
Power On Router: Connect the power adapter to the router and press the [On/Off Button] to turn it on.
Verify Hardware Connection: Check the router’s LEDs to confirm the hardware connection is correct.
- Power LED: Should be solid on.
- Internet LED: Should be solid on, indicating an internet connection.
- 2.4GHz LED: Should be solid on, indicating the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band is active.
- 5GHz LED: Should be solid on, indicating the 5GHz Wi-Fi band is active.
Note: If the 2.4GHz and 5GHz LEDs are off, press and hold the LED/Wi-Fi button on the back of the router for more than 2 seconds to turn them on.

2. Set Up the Network
Configure your network using either the TP-Link Tether app or a web browser.
Method ONE: Via TP-Link Tether App
- Download the TP-Link Tether app from your device's app store.
- Open the Tether app and log in with your TP-Link ID. If you don't have an account, create one first.
- Tap the '+' button in the Tether app, select 'Wireless Router' > 'Standard Routers', and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup and connect to the internet.

Method TWO: Via a Web Browser
- Connect your device to the router wirelessly or using an Ethernet cable. The default wireless network names (SSIDs) and password are printed on the label at the bottom of the router.
- Launch a web browser and enter

orhttp://192.168.0.1
in the address bar. - Create a new password to log in to the router's management interface.
- Follow the step-by-step instructions to set up your internet connection and register for TP-Link Cloud services.

Choose Your Device Type
Select the type of device you are setting up:
- Wireless Router
- Gaming Router
- Range Extender
To enjoy a more complete service from TP-Link, bind your TP-Link ID to the router.
3. Mount the Router
Choose between desktop or wall mounting for your router.
Option ONE: Desktop Mounting
- Place the router vertically on a flat surface, such as a desktop or shelf, ensuring it is out of children's reach.

Option TWO: Wall Mounting
- Mount the provided bracket on the wall in the correct direction using two screws (not provided). Ensure the screws are suitable for the wall type and can support the router's weight.
- Attach the router onto the bracket as shown in the diagram and slide it to lock into place.
Note: The length of the screws should be at least 20 mm. Recommended screw specifications: 4.67mm < D < 8mm, d < 4mm, H < 3mm.

Button Explanation
- LED/Wi-Fi Button:
- LED: Press the button for 1 second to turn the router's LEDs on or off.
- Wi-Fi: Press and hold the button for more than 2 seconds, then release to turn the wireless function (Wi-Fi) of your router on or off.
- Reset Button: Press and hold the button for approximately 6 seconds until the Power LED blinks to reset the router to its factory default settings.
- WPS Button: Press the button for 1 second, then immediately press the WPS button on your client device to start the WPS pairing process.

Q1. What should I do if I want to use the 1 Gbps WAN/LAN port for internet service?
Connect to the 1 Gbps WAN/LAN port with an Ethernet cable. During the quick network setup, select the 1 Gbps WAN/LAN port as the Internet port. Alternatively, after setup, navigate to Tools > Internet Connection > Internet Port (in the Tether app) or Internet > Internet Port (in the web management page) to change it.
Q2. What should I do if I can’t access the web management page?
- Reboot your router and try again.
- If your computer is set to a static IP address, change its settings to obtain an IP address automatically.
- Verify that

is correctly entered in the web browser. Alternatively, tryhttp://192.168.0.1
orhttp://192.168.1.1
. - Try using a different web browser.
- Disable and then re-enable your network adapter.
Q3. What should I do if I can't access the internet?
- Power off your modem for about 5 minutes, then power it back on and check the internet connection. If your modem has multiple Ethernet ports, ensure only the necessary one is connected.
- Test your internet connection by connecting a computer directly to the modem via an Ethernet cable. If the internet is not working, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
- Log in to the router’s web management page. Go to the Network Map page to check if the internet IP address is valid. If it is valid, navigate to Advanced > Network > Internet > Advanced Settings, select 'Use the Following DNS Addresses', set the primary DNS to
8.8.8.8
, and the secondary DNS to8.8.4.4
. If the IP address is not valid, check the hardware connection or contact your ISP. - For cable modem users: Log in to the router’s web management page, go to Advanced > Network > Internet > MAC Clone. Select 'Clone Current Device MAC' and click SAVE. Then, reboot both the modem and the router.
Q4. What should I do if I forget my wireless password?
- If you haven't changed it, the default wireless password is on the label at the bottom of the router.
- Connect a computer directly to the router using an Ethernet cable. Log in to the router’s web management page at
http://tplinkwifi.net
and go to the Wireless page to retrieve or reset your wireless password.
