Welcome - Getting started
The Latitude 7450 field service manual is designed to help service technicians accurately and effectively resolve customer inquiries and technical issues regarding this computer. It provides proper steps for hardware replacement and an overview of the system BIOS, features, and safety precautions. For questions regarding this material, contact Dell at Educate@dell.com.
Chapter 2: Views of Latitude 7450
Right Side View
The right side of the Latitude 7450 features the following ports and slots:
- 1. NanoSIM slot (optional): For connecting to a mobile broadband network. Availability depends on region and configuration.
- 2. Universal audio port: Connects headphones or a headset.
- 3. USB 3.2 Gen 1 port: For connecting external storage devices and printers.
- 4. USB 3.2 Gen 1 port with PowerShare: Offers data transfer speeds up to 5 Gbps for external storage devices and printers.
- 5. Wedge-shaped lock slot: For connecting a security cable to prevent unauthorized movement.
Left Side View
The left side of the Latitude 7450 includes:
- 1. HDMI 2.1 port: Provides video and audio output to TVs, external displays, or other HDMI-in enabled devices.
- 2. Thunderbolt 4.0 with DisplayPort Alt Mode/USB Type-C/USB4/Power Delivery: Supports USB4, DisplayPort 2.1, and Thunderbolt 4, enabling external display connection via an adapter. Offers data transfer rates up to 40 Gbps. Compatible with Dell Docking Stations. Requires a USB Type-C to DisplayPort adapter for DisplayPort devices. Backward compatible with USB 3.2, USB 2.0, and Thunderbolt 3. Supports two 4K displays or one 8K display.
- 3. Thunderbolt 4.0 with DisplayPort Alt Mode/USB Type-C/USB4/Power Delivery: (Identical to port 2).
- 4. Battery-status/diagnostic light: Indicates battery charge status: Solid yellow for low charge, blinking yellow for critical charge, and solid white for fully charged.
- 5. Smart card reader slot (optional): Used for authentication in corporate networks.
Front View
The front of the Latitude 7450 includes:
- 1. Infrared camera (optional): Enhances security with Windows Hello face authentication.
- 2. Infrared LED: Emits infrared light for the infrared camera to sense and track motion.
- 3. RGB Camera: Enables video chat, photo capture, and video recording.
- 4. Camera-status light: Illuminates when the camera is in use.
- 5. Ambient-light sensor (ALS): Automatically adjusts display brightness based on ambient light.
- 6. LCD panel: Provides visual output.
Top View
The top surface of the Latitude 7450 features:
- 1 & 3. Dual-array microphone: Provides digital sound input for audio recording and voice calls.
- 2. Camera shutter: A privacy shutter slides left to access the camera lens.
- 4. Power button with fingerprint reader (optional): Used to turn on the computer, put it into sleep state, or force shut down. If equipped with a fingerprint reader, place your finger on it to log in. Note: Power-status light may be absent if a fingerprint reader is integrated into the power button. Power button behavior can be customized in Windows.
- 5. Speaker: Provides audio output.
- 6. Clickpad with optional NFC/contactless smart-card reader: Allows pointer movement via finger gestures. Tap for left-click, two-finger tap for right-click.

Bottom View
The bottom of the Latitude 7450 includes:
- 1. Speakers: Provide audio output.
- 2. Service Tag label: A unique identifier for hardware components and warranty information.
Service Tag: The service tag is a unique alphanumeric identifier that allows Dell service technicians to identify hardware components and access warranty information for your computer.
Laptop Modes
The Latitude 7450 supports several modes for versatile use:
- Notebook mode: Standard laptop configuration.
- Tablet mode: The display is folded back against the base.
- Stand mode: The display is propped up, with the keyboard folded back.
- Tent mode: The laptop is positioned like a tent, with the display and keyboard forming an inverted 'V'.
Battery Charge and Status Light
The battery charge and status light indicates the battery's condition:

Power States: S0 (ON) - System is turned on. S4 (Hibernate) - System consumes minimal power, data is saved to the hard drive. S5 (OFF) - System is in a shutdown state.
Chapter 3: Set up your Latitude 7450
Follow these steps to set up your Latitude 7450:
- Connect the power adapter and press the power button. Ensure the power adapter is connected for the first-time startup, as the battery may be in power-saving mode.
- Finish the operating system setup.
- For Ubuntu: Follow on-screen instructions. Refer to www.dell.com/support for installation and configuration details.
- For Windows: Follow on-screen instructions. Dell Technologies recommends connecting to a network for updates, signing in with a Microsoft account (or creating an offline account if not connected), and entering contact details on the Support and Protection screen.
- Locate and use Dell apps from the Windows Start menu. Recommended applications include Dell Product Registration, Dell Help & Support, SupportAssist, Dell Command Update, and Dell Digital Delivery. These apps provide registration, troubleshooting, updates, and software downloads.
