AES e-LOOP EL00IG-RAD Wireless Vehicle Detection System

Presence Mode with Added Radar Protection

Overview

The AES e-LOOP EL00IG-RAD is an inground wireless vehicle detection system designed for gate automation. It utilizes dual sensing technology, combining a 3-axis magnetometer with added radar functionality to detect the presence and movement of vehicles. These detections are transmitted to a nearby transceiver for gate activation. The sensors are installed in the ground of entry or exit passages using flexible mastic, contain a replaceable Lithium battery, and can withstand almost any vehicle. Gate or door controllers must have a dedicated open input and autoclose function enabled.

Installation in 3 Simple Steps

  1. Code in the e-Loop.
  2. Core bore an 89mm hole, 70mm deep, and secure using flexible mastic.
  3. Calibrate the e-Loop.

Installation is designed to be quick, saving significant time compared to wired loop systems. The entire process can be completed in less than 30 minutes.

Added Radar Functionality

The integrated radar sensors detect vehicles that are stopped above the e-loop. This radar system utilizes a two-way radio communication protocol for reliable operation. When the magnetometer sensor detects an approaching vehicle, the transceiver relay is latched, and confirmation is sent back to the e-loop. If the magnetic field drops below a set threshold, the radar confirms if a vehicle is still present. If no vehicle is detected, an unlatch command is sent to the relay, and confirmation is transmitted back to the e-loop. Multiple attempts are made to ensure safe operation if confirmation is missed.

Radar settings, such as dead zone, sensor distance, sensitivity, magnetic field release level, and confirmation mode, can be adjusted using an e-diagnostics remote.

Detection Area Descriptions

Magnetometer Detection Areas

The system provides varying magnetic field detection zones around the e-loop module:

  • High Sensitivity Zone: Depicted in grey, this zone offers 0.6 yards (approx. 0.55 meters) of detection range and is suitable for most vehicles.
  • Medium Sensitivity Zone: Depicted in dark color, this zone offers 1 yard (approx. 0.91 meters) of detection range and is suitable for most vehicles.
  • Low Sensitivity Zone: Depicted in light color, this zone offers 1.6 yards (approx. 1.46 meters) of detection range and is suitable for some vehicles.

These zones are concentric, with the high sensitivity zone closest to the module.

Radar Read Distances

The radar detection range spans a 60° Field of View (FOV) from the e-loop. The zones are defined as follows:

  • Dead Zone: Depicted in grey, this zone (0.3 yards / approx. 0.27 meters) is where objects cannot be detected.
  • Minimum Read Distance: 0.6 yards (approx. 0.55 meters).
  • Default Read Distance: 1.4 yards (approx. 1.28 meters).
  • Maximum Read Distance: 2.1 yards (approx. 1.92 meters).

Battery Life Considerations

Battery life is influenced by several factors, including the number of daily activations, the duration of each activation, the radar range setting, and external environmental conditions. A graph illustrates that as daily activations increase, the battery life decreases.

Compliance

The AES e-LOOP EL00IG-RAD has been tested and complies with the following standards:

  • Safety: Tested to CE Approval.
  • EMC: Tested to EN 301 489-1 V2.2.3 ("Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) standard for radio equipment and services; Part 1: Common technical requirements; Harmonised Standard for ElectroMagnetic Compatibility"), including:
    • a) Emissions to EN 55032 ("Electromagnetic compatibility of multimedia equipment").
    • b) Transmitter and receiver test to EN 300 220-1 V3.1.1 (‘Short Range Devices (SRD) operating in the frequency range 25MHz. to 1000MHz; Part 1: Technical Characteristics and methods of measurement.').
    • c) Immunity Tests to EN 301 489-1.
