Front Wheel SETTING UP YOUR CARECO TRAVEL AIR WHEELCHAIR 1. Remove the carry case from the outer packaging. 2. Remove the wheelchair components from the carry case, then place them onto a level surface. 3. Place the folded wheelchair upright. 4. Lift the push handles upwards. An audible "click" will confirm the handles are secure. 7 PRODUCT CODE WC02010020 5. Fold down the legrest tubes. 6. Push downwards on the corners of the seat base to open the wheelchair. 7. Lower the legrest tube lever(s), then insert 8. Lift the legrest tube lever(s) upwards to the legrest(s) into the legrest tube(s). lock the legrest(s) into position. SUGGESTION Ensure the legrests are at the same height before use. 8 9. Lift the armrest(s) upwards, then locate the spring pin(s) into the lower wheelchair frame. WARNING! Ensure the wheelchair is secure before use. 9 PRODUCT CODE WC02010020 HOW TO USE YOUR WHEELCHAIR USER INSTRUCTIONS TRANSFERING TO & FROM Always ensure the brakes are applied before getting in/out of the wheelchair. TRANSFER TO Position your body as close to the wheelchair as possible. Support your body using the armrests, before lowering into the seat. TRANSFER FROM Support your body using the armrests and place your feet on the ground. Push upwards to lift out of the seat. GRADIENTS ASCENDING Tilt your upper body forward when travelling up gradients for increased stability. DESCENDING Tilt your upper body back when travelling down gradients for increased stability. 10 THRESHOLDS & FIXED OBSTACLES Approach thresholds vertically to avoid wheelchair misbalance. Incorrect Approach Correct Approach SUGGESTION Use caution when operating the wheelchair near kerbs, ledges, and doorway thresholds. DOORS & GATES Determine whether the door/gate opens towards or away from the user. Reach for the handle, then carefully move forwards or backwards depending on the door/gate orientation. STAIRS, ESCALATORS AND LIFTS The wheelchair is not designed to travel up/down stairs and escalators. Use a lift whenever possible. LIFTING & CARRYING Lift/carry the wheelchair from areas of the frame that are clear from pinch points. 11 PRODUCT CODE WC02010020 APPLYING THE BRAKES ATTENDANT BRAKE STOPPING Gradually squeeze both brake levers to stop the wheelchair. Release the brake levers to start moving again. TURNING Squeeze the left and right brake levers individually to rotate the wheelchair. Release the brake lever to stop rotating. LOCKING Locate the locking lever in the handle catch to lock the attendant brake. UNLOCKING Lift the locking lever to unlock the attendant brake. WARNING! Ensure the wheelchair is stationary when locking the brakes. SUGGESTION Regularly test the brakes to ensure they function correctly. 12 LEGRESTS ATTACHING Lower the legrest tube lever(s), then insert the legrest(s) into the legrest tube(s). Lift the tube lever(s) to secure the position. FOOTPLATES REMOVING Lower the legrest tube lever(s), then remove the legrest(s) from the legrest tube(s). LIFTING Fold the footplates upwards to assist the user when leaving the wheelchair and when folding the wheelchair. LOWERING Fold the footplates downwards to aid the user when travelling in the wheelchair. 13 PRODUCT CODE WC02010020 HALF-FOLDING BACKREST Fold down the wheelchair's backrest for quick and easy storage under a desk or table. FOLDING Press and hold the backrest levers whilst folding down the push handles. UNFOLDING Lift the push handles upwards. An audible "click" will confirm the handles are secure. WARNING! Do not sit in the wheelchair when the backrest is folded down. Ensure the push handles are secure before use. ADDITIONAL STORAGE SPACE CARECO WHEELCHAIR BAG POPEM PANNIER BAG Attach additional storage space to the back of your wheelchair by looping the bag straps over the wheelchair's push handles. Attach additional storage space to the side of your wheelchair by looping the bag straps over the wheelchair's armrest. 14 FOLDING YOUR WHEELCHAIR, TRANSPORTATION AND STORAGE FOLDING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Lower the legrest tube lever(s), then remove the legrest(s) from the legrest tube(s). 2. Pull the armrest spring pin(s), then lower the armrest(s). 3. Fold the wheelchair, then insert it into the carry bag. Position the bag appropriately within the vehicle to prevent excess movement during transit. WARNING! This product is not suitable as a seat in a motor vehicle. TRANSPORTING BY AIR & RAIL Prior to your journey, contact the service provider to confirm their transport-specific requirements. STORING THE WHEELCHAIR SHORT TERM STORAGE Store the product in a cool and dry environment. Storing the product in extreme temperatures can cause premature rusting & damage. 17 PRODUCT CODE WC02010020 COMFORT ADJUSTMENTS FOOTPLATE HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT 1. Lower the legrest tube lever to unlock the legrest. 2. Press and hold the spring pin, then lift/lower the legrest until it is at the desired height. 3. Lift the legrest tube lever to secure the position. 4. Repeat on the other side. WARNING! Ensure the legrests are at an equal height, and secure before use. 18 LOOKING AFTER YOUR WHEELCHAIR CLEANING Regular use of the wheelchair will accumulate dirt and debris over time. Clean the wheelchair regularly using mild soap and warm water, then dry using a cloth. WARNING! Do not use bleach or strong chemicals to clean the wheelchair. SUGGESTION Regular cleaning & maintenance can help prolong the wheelchairs lifespan. MAINTENANCE The wheelchair is made up of components which over time will become susceptible to wear and tear. Knowing how to properly care and maintain your wheelchair will not only ensure peak performance and safe operation but will also help maintain operation for years to come. MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE Carry out regular inspections to keep the wheelchair in optimum condition. WHEELS & TYRES Ensure tyres have sufficient tread and the wheels are in a good condition. BRAKES Ensure the brakes function as intended. QUARTERLY UPHOLSTERY Check for wear and tear. OVERALL Overall check for wear and residue build-up. Cleaning if required. REPAIRS Certain wheelchair components can be repaired by the user with guidance provided by CareCo. Other components can only be repaired/replaced by a service technician. Various items such as weight capacity, user behaviour, external conditions and intensity of use can affect the expected lifetime. WEIGHT CAPACITY: If the user exceeds the weight limit specified, it may affect the product's expected lifetime. EXTERNAL CONDITIONS: Extreme temperatures, humidity and exposure to harsh weather conditions can accelerate the deterioration of the product. USER BEHAVIOUR: Using excessive force, rough handling or dropping components can significantly shorten the products's expected lifetime. USAGE: A product that is used daily may experience more wear and tear compared to a product that is used occasionally. The expected lifetime for the wheelchair is 5 years providing the instructions and information within this user manual are followed. Regular cleaning, lubrication of moving parts, and tightening of loose fixings will prevent premature wear and damage and extend the product's lifetime. The expected lifetime is not related to the product warranty. 26 WARRANTY If a component requires repair or replacement due to a specific manufacturing or material defect within its warranty period, it will be repaired or replaced free of charge by CareCo. · FRAME: 1-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY · DURABLE PARTS: 1-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY Consumables are not covered under normal warranty circumstances unless they have clearly suffered excessive wear or damage as a direct result of a manufacturing defect. These items include grips, tyres, and rubber accessories. The guarantee for the wheelchair is not transferable. Parts that have been previously replaced that require subsequent repair or replacement due to manufacturing defects will be honoured for the remainder of the wheelchair's warranty period. Parts that have been purchased by the end user after the original warranty period has expired have a warranty period of 12 months.
