How-to-Install

Follow these steps for installing your Pitts & Spitts Built-In Grill:

  1. Create Cutout: Make a cutout in your island structure according to the dimensions specified in Diagram A. The grill's self-flanging design will conceal any imperfections around the edge after cutting.

  2. Position Flange: Rest the first few inches of the grill's flange on the countertop.

  3. Connect Power: Connect the supplied 110V power cord to the female receptacle located in the bottom left corner of the rear of the hopper.

  4. Plug In: Plug the power cord into your island's GFCI-protected outlet.

  5. Insert Grill: Carefully slide the grill into the island cutout. Ensure the grill is centered between the left and right sides of the cutout. Approximately 6-7 inches of the hopper will extend from the island once installed.

Notes: Be mindful of the antenna on the controller during installation.

Pro Tip 1: A 1.5-inch hole can be used to thread the electrical cord between island compartments if needed.

Pro Tip 2: The power outlet can be wired to a light switch located above or outside the island. This switch can be turned off when the grill is not in use, providing an extra layer of protection and safety.

Grill Cutout Details

Your grill features a built-in flange. This means the lip of the grill rests on top of the counter edge surrounding the cutout, while the front of the grill hangs freely from the countertop. Consequently, no trim kit is required if the cutout is made precisely to the specified dimensions.

  1. Clearance: Maintain a minimum of 24 inches of clearance from any combustible materials in all directions around the grill.

  2. Heat Barrier: If any combustible materials are located within the 24-inch clearance zone, a heat barrier must be installed. This can be a grill jacket or other non-combustible materials such as bricks, Hardy Board, or metal.

  3. Orientation: Orient the grill so that prevailing winds do not blow directly into the rear or side of the grill.

Wind Considerations

While aesthetics are important for your backyard setup, ensuring the grill's location allows for correct performance is paramount. Wind can significantly impact the grill's operation.

  1. Optimal Direction: Position the grill such that the front faces into the prevailing wind, and the back is oriented in the direction the wind is blowing.

  2. Wind Break: If the direction of the wind is unclear or difficult to manage even with preventative measures, consider building a wind break into your outdoor kitchen design.

  3. Wind Shield: If wind or breeze blows towards the back of the grill, construct a partition wall. This wall should be at least the height of the grill, ensuring the top of the grill lid is covered by several inches to mitigate wind effects.
