1. About this manual
This manual is intended for users of the design kit, referred to as the "library." This library provides Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd.'s (Murata) electrical models for MLCC (Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitor) and RF-inductors. These models are specifically designed for use with Cadence's AWR Design Environment Microwave Office (MWO) software. This manual details the procedures for installing the library and demonstrates how to utilize it within the Schematic window of MWO.
The procedures outlined in this manual are designed to facilitate necessary operations. However, users should be aware that certain contents might exhibit differences depending on their specific operating environment.
2. Operation environment
This manual is based on the following operating environment. Users are also advised to consult the manuals for their relevant equipment and software for environment-specific details.
- OS: Windows 11/10
- Administrator privileges are required to install the library.
- MWO version: 12.0 or later (64-bit version only)
3. How to install
The installation process involves unzipping the downloaded library files and then placing them into the appropriate directory within the AWR Design Environment installation.
3.1. Unzipping Library Files
Begin by unzipping the downloaded files. The library consists of two main zip archives: murata_lib_mwo_MLCC_****.zip
for MLCC components and murata_lib_mwo_Ind_****.zip
for RF-inductor components. After unzipping, examine the contents of each archive.
For MLCC components, the unzipped contents typically include a folder named murata_lib_mwo_MLCC
, a configuration file murata_cap.xml
, a netlist
folder, and specific component data files such as eia_capacitor.xml
, jis_capacitor.xml
, and murata_smt_cap.gds
. For RF-inductor components, the unzipped contents include a folder named murata_lib_mwo_Ind
, a configuration file murata_ind.xml
, a netlist
folder, and specific component data files such as eia_inductor.xml
, jis_inductor.xml
, and murata_smt_ind.gds
.
3.2. Placing Files in the Directory
Move the unzipped folders and their associated .xml
files into the following directory within your AWR Design Environment installation:
C:\Users\"UserName"\AppData\Local\AWR\Design Environment\16.0\xml\Circuit Elements\
Important Notes:
- If folders and files from a previous version of the library exist, it is recommended to delete them before moving the new ones to prevent conflicts.
- The
AppData
folder is typically hidden by default. To access it, please enable the "Show hidden items" option in your Windows Explorer settings.
4. How to use
To utilize the library components, open the relevant category, either murata_cap
for MLCCs or murata_ind
for RF-inductors, within the Elements browser in AWR Design Environment.
The library offers two types of part numbers for components: EIA and JIS. Users can select and use either standard as per their project requirements.
Elements can be easily placed onto the schematic by performing a drag-and-drop operation from the Elements browser directly onto the schematic canvas.
The process involves locating the desired component (e.g., murata_MLCC
or murata_Ind (RF-inductor)
) in the Elements browser. Users then drag the component and drop it onto the schematic. The accompanying simulation graph (e.g., Graph 1) visualizes the performance characteristics of the placed component, such as S-parameters (S21, S11) plotted against frequency, typically ranging from 0.1 MHz to 30 GHz. The Status Window provides simulation progress and information.
