Important Safety and General Information
This document provides installation instructions for Westfalia tow bars. Adhere to national regulations for vehicle attachments. Modifications to the tow bar are prohibited and void the operating license.
Remove insulating compound or underbody protection from vehicle contact surfaces. The tow bar is for towing trailers and carrying loads only; other uses are forbidden.
Vehicles with parking assistance may experience malfunctions if tow bar components obstruct sensors. Adjust sensing range or deactivate assistance if needed. For removable/pivoting ball heads, ensure the ball head is not in the operating position to avoid interference.
The tow bar is a safety component and must be installed by qualified professionals. Improper installation can cause serious accidents. The German text of these instructions is binding.

Adhere to Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and towing capacity limits.
Installation Procedure
Step 1: Vehicle Preparation
Identify mounting points on the rear of the vehicle. Remove any necessary panels or covers. ⚠️ Ensure all parts are present.
Step 2: Tow Bar Frame Assembly
Assemble the main tow bar frame sections using bolts and nuts. Assistance from another person is recommended. ❌ Avoid forcing parts.
Step 3: Mounting Bracket Preparation
Attach vehicle-specific mounting brackets to the chassis.
Step 4: Attaching Mounting Brackets
Secure brackets to the chassis using specified bolts (e.g., M8 x 35 x 1.25, M10 x 35 x 1.50). Tighten to specified torque values.
Step 5: Attaching Main Tow Bar Frame
Position the tow bar frame onto the vehicle, aligning with brackets. Secure with M10 x 35 x 1.50 bolts. Ensure proper alignment before tightening.
Step 6: Final Tightening and Torqueing
Use a spirit level ? to ensure correct positioning. Tighten all bolts: M8 to 24 Nm, M10 to 67 Nm. ⚠️ Over-tightening can damage components.
Step 7: Tow Ball Neck Installation - Clearance Check
Insert the tow ball neck into the receiver. Maintain required clearance (CL) around the ball (e.g., 80mm, 250mm). Measurements may vary. ⚠️
Step 8: Securing the Tow Ball Neck
Insert the tow ball neck into the receiver. Follow locking mechanism instructions precisely. Ensure the locking pin/mechanism is fully engaged. A click sound ✔️ indicates correct locking.
Step 9: Final Checks
Re-check all mounting points and fasteners. Ensure the tow bar is secure.
Tow Ball Locking Mechanism Operation
Correct Locking: Insert tow ball neck fully. Ensure ~5mm clearance before locking. Operate lever until it clicks ✔️.
Incorrect Locking: If clearance is 0mm or locking fails, do not proceed. ❌ Re-check installation and alignment.
Detaching the Tow Ball: Reverse the procedure to unlock and remove the ball. Ensure the mechanism is fully disengaged.
Storage
When not in use, store the tow ball neck in its protective bag ?️.
