Black Lion Audio Revolution 6x6 Quick Start Guide

This guide provides essential information for setting up and using your Black Lion Audio Revolution 6x6.

The lightning flash symbol alerts users to the presence of uninsulated "dangerous voltage" within the enclosure. The exclamation point symbol alerts users to important operating and maintenance instructions.

The Black Lion Audio Revolution 6x6 complies with applicable RoHS/WEEE European Union directives.

Warranty Information

U.S.A. Service: Contact the Black Lion Audio Service Department at https://www.blacklionaudio.com/contact. Obtain an RA # before shipping. Pack carefully using original materials and insure the shipment.

International Service: Contact your local Black Lion Audio distributor.

Limited 3 Year Warranty: Black Lion Audio warrants the Revolution 6x6 against defects in materials and workmanship for three (3) years from the original purchase date. This warranty covers parts and labor but excludes normal wear, abuse, shipping damage, or failure to use the product per specifications. Black Lion Audio is not liable for incidental or consequential damages. This warranty is non-transferable.

Getting to Know the Revolution 6x6

Front Panel

1. Inputs: XLR-Combo inputs for microphones, instruments, and line-level equipment. Use the center 1/4" connection for line-level and Hi-Z devices.

2. Instrument Input Switches: Selects between unbalanced instrument level and balanced line level for the 1/4" input.

3. Preamp Gain: Controls the preamplifier gain.

4. Input LED: Indicates input levels (Green = signal, Red = clipping).

5. 48V Buttons: Engage 48V phantom power per channel.

6. Main Meter: Meters analog input or playback levels. 0 dBFS indicates clipping in Input Metering mode.

7. Monitor: Attenuates the monitor output level.

8. USB Status LED: Indicates USB connectivity status (Blinking Red: no connection; Solid Red: OTG connected, no USB; Solid Yellow: USB & OTG connected; Solid Green: USB connected).

9. Direct Mixer: Mixes monitoring of inputs in real-time. Turn left for analog inputs, right for playback. In Standalone mode, digital inputs can be monitored via playback.

10. Headphone Volume: Controls headphone volume.

11. Headphone Output: Connect headphones here.

12. Mono HP: Sums headphone outputs to mono. Affects input monitoring only.

13. Stand-Alone: Press and hold to engage Standalone mode (use without a computer). Press to cycle through sample rates. BNC and S/PDIF can be external clock sources.

14. Input Meter: Toggles the Main Meter between analog input and playback levels (Lit = input, Unlit = playback).

Rear Panel

1. 5V Power Connector: USB-C for power.

2. Power Switch: Turns the unit on/off.

3. USB-C to Computer: Connect to computer or mobile device for recording.

4. OTG Connector: Connect devices supporting USB OTG.

5. S/PDIF Output: Outputs channels 1 & 2 digitally.

6. S/PDIF Input: Connect S/PDIF digital outputs here.

7. Word Clock Output: Use as a primary clock for other devices.

8. Word Clock Input: Sync to a primary clock in standalone mode.

9. Monitor Output: Main outputs for monitor speakers.

Let's Get Started!

Product Registration and Software Download

  1. Go to www.blacklionaudio.com.
  2. Click "REGISTER PRODUCT".
  3. Click "Create an Account" and follow instructions. Verify email.
  4. Log in to your account and click "Register a product".
  5. Enter the unit's serial number (bottom of unit) and software number (front cover of manual).
  6. Click "Verify" to get software codes and download instructions.

Connecting to a Computer (Mac & Windows)

Connect the Revolution 6x6 to your computer using a USB cable. If the USB light is not green, press and hold the Stand-alone button for 5 seconds to switch to interface mode.

Preparing for Playback

  1. Turn the Mixer knob to the 12 o'clock position to hear both inputs and computer playback.
  2. Connect headphones to the headphone output and turn the Phones volume control to 12 o'clock.

Recording

  1. Connect a microphone and speak into it. Adjust the Input 1 Preamp Gain knob until a suitable recording level is achieved, monitoring via your DAW's input meter.
  2. Engage the MONO button for input monitor summing.
  3. Click the "Record" button in your DAW to begin recording.

Power Supply Note: While bus power via USB is possible, the included power supply is recommended for full headphone volume and standalone mode. Use one USB cable for power and another for the computer connection when using the AC adapter.

USB OTG Note: USB OTG allows connection to mobile devices for audio transfer. iPhone models prior to iPhone 15 require a Lightning-to-USB OTG adapter.
