SAFETY WARNINGS

General Power Tool Safety Warnings

WARNING: Read all safety warnings, instructions, and illustrations provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

Safety warnings for cordless demolition hammer

  1. Wear hearing protection. Excessive noise can cause hearing loss.
  2. Use the auxiliary handle(s), if supplied with the tool. Loss of control can cause personal injury.
  3. When performing an operation where the accessory may contact hidden wiring or its own cord, hold the power tool by the insulated gripping surfaces only. Contact with a "live" wire will make exposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and could give the operator an electric shock.
  4. Wear hard hat (safety helmet), safety glasses and/or face shield. Ordinary eyeglasses or sunglasses are NOT eye protection. It is also highly recommended to use a dust mask and thick padded gloves.
  5. Before starting operation, make sure that the working tool is securely clamped.
  6. In normal operation, the tool generates vibration. Screws may loosen easily and cause malfunction or accident. Check the tightness of screws carefully before use.
  7. For use in cold weather or if the tool has not been used for a long time, let the tool warm up by running it without load for a while. This will warm up the grease. It is difficult to use the hammer function without proper warm-up.
  8. Always maintain a stable footing. When working at heights, be careful that no one is below you.
  9. Hold the tool firmly with both hands.
  10. Keep hands away from moving parts.
  11. Never let the tool run unattended. Operate the tool only when you are holding it.
  12. Do not point the tool at any person in the work area. The working tool may come loose and cause serious injury.
  13. Do not touch the tool, parts near the tool, or the workpiece immediately after operation, as they may become very hot and burn your skin.
  14. Some materials contain chemicals that may be toxic. Be careful not to inhale dust or come into contact with skin. Follow the material supplier's safety instructions.
  15. Before handing the tool over to another person, make sure it is switched off and the battery and bit/drill are removed.
  16. Before use, ensure that there are no buried objects such as electrical wiring, water pipes, or gas pipes in the work area. Otherwise, the working tool may come into contact with them, resulting in electric shock, electrical leakage, or gas leakage.
  17. Do not run the tool unnecessarily in idle.

WARNING: DO NOT let familiarity gained from frequent use of the tool replace strict adherence to the tool safety rules. Careless use or failure to follow the safety instructions set forth in this manual may cause serious personal injury.

Important Safety Instructions for Battery

  1. Before using the battery, read all the instructions and warning marks on the charger, battery pack and product using the battery.
  2. Do not disassemble or tamper with the battery pack. Fire, excessive heat, or explosion may result.
  3. If the operating time is excessively shortened, discontinue operation immediately. It may result in a risk of overheating, burns, or even an explosion.
  4. If electrolyte gets into your eyes, rinse them out with clean water and seek medical attention immediately. It may result in loss of eyesight.
  5. Do not short-circuit the battery:
    • Do not touch the terminals with any conductive material.
    • Do not store the battery pack in a container with other metal objects such as nails, coins, etc.
    • Do not expose the battery to water or rain. Short-circuiting the battery can cause a large current flow, overheating, possible burns and even a failure.
  6. Do not store or use the tool and battery pack in locations where the temperature may reach or exceed 50 °C (122 °F).
  7. Do not incinerate the battery pack even if it is severely damaged or completely worn out. The battery pack can explode in a fire.
  8. Do not cut, crush, or impact the battery pack with a hard object. This may cause a short circuit, overheating, fire, or explosion.
  9. Do not use a damaged battery pack.
  10. The contained lithium-ion batteries are subject to the dangerous goods regulations of legislation. For commercial transport, e.g. by third parties, forwarders, requirements for special packaging and labeling must be observed.
  11. For preparation of the item being shipped, consultation with an expert for hazardous materials is required. Also observe possible further national regulations.
  12. Cover the exposed terminals with adhesive tape or similar to prevent them from shorting.
  13. When disposing of the battery pack, remove it from the tool and dispose of it in a safe place. Disposal must be in accordance with the local regulations.
  14. Use batteries only with the products specified by Makita. Failure to use batteries complying with the specified conditions may result in a fire, excessive heat, explosion, or leakage of electrolyte.
  15. If the tool is not used for a long period of time, the battery must be removed from the tool.
  16. The battery may become hot after use, which may cause burns or irritation. Pay attention to handling hot battery packs.
  17. Do not touch the terminal on the tool that may be hot immediately after use, as it may cause burns.
  18. Do not allow chips, dust, or dirt to stick to the terminals, holes, and grooves of the battery. Doing so may cause the tool or battery to malfunction or be damaged.
  19. If the tool is not designed to be used in proximity to high electrical voltage, do not use the battery near high-voltage electrical lines. Doing so may cause the tool or battery to malfunction or fail.
  20. Keep batteries out of reach of children.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.

CAUTION: Use only genuine Makita batteries. Use of non-genuine or modified batteries may cause the battery to explode, resulting in fire, injury, and damage. It will also void the Makita warranty for the tool and charger.

Tips for Maximizing Battery Life

  1. Charge the battery before it is completely discharged. Always stop tool operation and charge the battery when you notice reduced tool power.
  2. Never charge a fully discharged battery. Charging a fully discharged battery shortens its service life.
  3. Charge the battery at an ambient temperature of 10 °C - 40 °C (50 °F - 104 °F). Let a hot battery cool down before charging it.
  4. When the battery pack is not in use, remove it from the tool or the charger.
  5. Charge the battery pack if it has not been used for a long time (more than six months).

Important Safety Instructions for Wireless Unit

  1. Do not disassemble or tamper with the wireless unit.
  2. Keep the wireless unit out of reach of small children. If it is accidentally swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
  3. Use the wireless unit only with Makita tools.
  4. Do not expose the wireless unit to rain or moisture.
  5. Do not operate the wireless unit in locations where the temperature exceeds 50 °C.
  6. Do not operate the wireless unit in locations where medical equipment, such as a pacemaker, is present, or in their vicinity.
  7. Do not operate the wireless unit in or near automated equipment. Operation may cause malfunction or errors in automated equipment.
  8. Do not use the wireless unit in locations with high temperatures or where static electricity or electronic noise may be generated.
  9. The wireless unit may generate electromagnetic fields (EMP), but these are not harmful to the user.
  10. The wireless unit is a precision instrument. Handle it with care to avoid dropping or striking it.
  11. Do not touch the terminals of the wireless unit with bare hands or metal objects.
  12. Always remove the battery from the tool before installing or removing the wireless unit.
  13. When opening the groove cover, be careful of the area where dust and water may enter the groove. Keep the inlet of the groove clean at all times.
  14. Always insert the wireless unit in the correct direction.
  15. Do not press the wireless activation button on the wireless unit too hard, or press it with sharp-edged objects.
  16. Always close the groove cover when using the tool.
  17. Do not remove the wireless unit from the groove while the tool is powered. Otherwise, the wireless unit may be damaged.
  18. Do not remove the label on the wireless unit.
  19. Do not apply any labels to the wireless unit.
  20. Do not leave the wireless unit where static electricity or electronic noise may be generated.
  21. Do not leave the wireless unit in locations where it may be exposed to high heat, such as inside a car in the sun.
  22. Do not leave the wireless unit in dusty environments or where it may be exposed to corrosive gas.
  23. Sudden temperature changes may cause condensation on the wireless unit. Do not use the wireless unit until it is completely dry.
  24. When cleaning the wireless unit, wipe it gently with a dry cloth. Do not use gasoline, thinner, conductive grease, or similar.
  25. When storing the wireless unit, keep it in the supplied case or an antistatic bag.
  26. Do not insert any devices other than the Makita wireless unit into the groove of the tool.
  27. Do not use the tool if the groove cover is damaged. Water, dust, or foreign matter may enter the groove and cause malfunction.
  28. Do not pull on the groove cover or try to twist it more than necessary. Reattach a loose cover.
  29. If the groove cover is lost or damaged, replace it.

FEATURES

Wireless Activation Function

The wireless activation function allows for clean and convenient operation. By connecting a compatible vacuum cleaner to the tool, the vacuum cleaner can be automatically operated when the tool's trigger is pulled.

To use the wireless activation function, prepare the following items:

The setup procedure for the wireless activation function is as follows. Refer to the relevant section for detailed steps.

  1. Install the wireless unit.
  2. Register the tool with the vacuum cleaner.
  3. Start the wireless activation function.

Installing the Wireless Unit

CAUTION: When installing the wireless unit, place the tool on a flat, stable surface.

CAUTION: Before installing the wireless unit, clean the tool of dust and debris. If dust or debris enters the groove of the wireless unit, it may cause malfunction.

CAUTION: To prevent malfunction due to static electricity, touch a static-discharging material, such as a metal part of the tool, before handling the wireless unit.

CAUTION: When installing the wireless unit, always ensure that the wireless unit is inserted in the correct position and that the cover is completely closed.

  1. Open the tool's cover as shown in the illustration. (Fig. 21: 1. Cover)
  2. Insert the wireless unit into the groove and close the cover. Align the projections on the wireless unit with the grooves in the cover. (Fig. 22: 1. Wireless unit 2. Projection 3. Cover 4. Groove)

When removing the wireless unit, slowly open the cover. The hooks on the back of the cover will pull out the wireless unit as the cover is opened.

CAUTION: When removing the wireless unit, always use the hooks on the back of the cover. If the hooks do not catch the wireless unit, close the cover completely and then open it slowly again.

After removal, store the wireless unit in the supplied case or an antistatic bag.

Registering the Tool with the Vacuum Cleaner

NOTE: A Makita vacuum cleaner that supports the wireless activation function is required for tool registration.

NOTE: Complete the wireless unit installation before starting tool registration.

NOTE: Do not press the trigger or turn on the vacuum cleaner during tool registration.

NOTE: Refer to the vacuum cleaner's instruction manual.

To have the vacuum cleaner operate automatically when the tool's trigger is pulled, complete the tool registration first.

  1. Install batteries into the vacuum cleaner and the tool.
  2. Set the vacuum cleaner's standby switch to the AUTO position. (Fig. 24: 1. Standby switch)
  3. Press and hold the wireless activation button on the vacuum cleaner for 3 seconds until the wireless activation indicator lights up green. Then, do the same for the wireless activation button on the tool. (Fig. 25: 1. Wireless activation button 2. Wireless activation indicator)

Upon successful pairing of the vacuum cleaner and the tool, the wireless activation indicators will light up green for 2 seconds and then start blinking blue. NOTE: The wireless activation indicators will stop blinking green after 20 seconds. Press the wireless activation button on the tool while the wireless activation indicator on the vacuum cleaner is blinking. If the wireless activation indicator is not blinking green, briefly press and then hold the wireless activation button.

NOTE: When registering more than one tool with a single vacuum cleaner, perform the registration for each tool individually.

Starting the Wireless Activation Function

NOTE: Complete the tool registration with the vacuum cleaner before wireless activation.

NOTE: Refer to the vacuum cleaner's instruction manual.

After the tool is registered with the vacuum cleaner, the vacuum cleaner will start automatically when the tool's trigger is pulled.

  1. Install the wireless unit into the tool.
  2. Connect the vacuum cleaner hose to the tool. (Fig. 26)
  3. Set the vacuum cleaner's standby switch to the AUTO position. (Fig. 27: 1. Standby switch)
  4. Briefly press the wireless activation button on the tool. The wireless activation indicator will blink blue. (Fig. 28: 1. Wireless activation button 2. Wireless activation indicator)
  5. Pull the tool's trigger. Check that the vacuum cleaner starts when the tool's trigger is pulled. To stop the vacuum cleaner's wireless activation, press the tool's wireless activation button.

NOTE: The wireless activation indicator on the tool will stop blinking blue after 2 hours of tool inactivity. In such cases, set the vacuum cleaner's standby switch to AUTO and press the activation button on the tool again.

NOTE: The vacuum cleaner will start/stop with a delay. There is a slight delay before the vacuum cleaner detects the tool's trigger being pulled.

NOTE: The wireless transmission range may vary depending on the installation location and environmental conditions.

NOTE: When more than ten tools are registered to one vacuum cleaner, the vacuum cleaner may start even if the tool trigger is not pulled, when another user operates the wireless activation function.

Description of Wireless Activation Indicator Status

The wireless activation indicator displays the status of the wireless activation function. Refer to the following table for indicator status explanations.

Standby mode Blue 2 hours Wireless activation of the vacuum cleaner is available. The indicator will automatically turn off after 2 hours of inactivity.
Tool registration Green When tool is triggered. Wireless activation of the vacuum cleaner is available and the tool is triggered.
Registering tool Green 20 seconds Ready to register the tool. Waiting for registration by the vacuum cleaner.
Tool registration complete Green Tool registration is complete. The wireless activation indicator will start blinking blue.
Cancelling tool registration Red 20 seconds Ready to cancel tool registration. Waiting for cancellation by the vacuum cleaner.
Tool registration cancelled Red Tool registration has been cancelled. The wireless activation indicator will start blinking blue.
Other Red 3 seconds The wireless unit is powered and the wireless activation function is starting.
Wireless activation of the vacuum cleaner has stopped.

Cancelling Tool Registration for Vacuum Cleaner

Follow these steps to cancel tool registration for the vacuum cleaner.

  1. Install batteries into the vacuum cleaner and the tool.
  2. Set the vacuum cleaner's standby switch to the AUTO position. (Fig. 30: 1. Standby switch)
  3. Press and hold the wireless activation button on the vacuum cleaner for 6 seconds. The wireless activation indicator will blink green, then turn red. Then, do the same for the wireless activation button on the tool. (Fig. 31: 1. Wireless activation button 2. Wireless activation indicator)

Upon successful cancellation, the wireless activation indicators will light up red for 2 seconds and then start blinking blue.

NOTE: The wireless activation indicators will stop blinking red after 20 seconds. Press the wireless activation button on the tool while the wireless activation indicator on the vacuum cleaner is blinking. If the wireless activation indicator is not blinking red, briefly press and then hold the wireless activation button.

Troubleshooting Wireless Activation Function

Before requesting service, check the following points yourself. If you encounter a problem that is not covered in this manual, do not attempt to disassemble the equipment. Always use Makita genuine replacement parts for repairs and servicing at authorized Makita service centers.

Cannot complete tool registration / Cancel tool registration. Wireless unit not installed in the tool. Install the wireless unit correctly.
Wireless unit not installed correctly in the tool. Install the wireless unit correctly.
Terminal on the wireless unit or groove is dirty. Gently wipe the dust off the wireless unit terminal and clean the groove.
Vacuum cleaner standby switch is not set to AUTO. Set the vacuum cleaner standby switch to AUTO.
No power source. Connect power to the tool and vacuum cleaner.
Incorrect operation. Briefly press the wireless activation button and repeat the registration/cancellation procedures.
Vacuum cleaner does not start when tool trigger is pulled. Tool and vacuum cleaner are too far apart (out of transmission range). Move the tool and vacuum cleaner closer together. The maximum transmission range is approximately 10 m. However, this may vary depending on conditions.
Tool trigger is pressed or vacuum cleaner switch is turned on before completing registration/cancellation. Briefly press the wireless activation button and repeat the registration/cancellation procedures.
Tool or vacuum cleaner registration was not completed. Perform tool and vacuum cleaner registration with the same timing.
Interference with wireless transmission from other devices generating strong radio waves. Keep the tool and vacuum cleaner away from devices such as Wi-Fi devices and microwave ovens.
Wireless unit not installed in the tool. Install the wireless unit correctly.
Wireless unit not installed correctly in the tool. Install the wireless unit correctly.
Terminal on the wireless unit or groove is dirty. Gently wipe the dust off the wireless unit terminal and clean the groove.
Vacuum cleaner starts even though tool trigger was not pulled. Wireless unit not installed in the tool. Install the wireless unit correctly.

Vacuum cleaner standby switch is not set to AUTO. Set the vacuum cleaner standby switch to AUTO.
More than 10 tools are registered to the vacuum cleaner. Repeat the tool registration. If more than 10 tools are registered to the vacuum cleaner, the oldest registration will be automatically cancelled.
Vacuum cleaner has erased all tool registrations. Repeat the tool registration.
No power source. Connect power to the tool and vacuum cleaner.
Tool and vacuum cleaner are too far apart (out of transmission range). Move the tool and vacuum cleaner closer together. The maximum transmission range is approximately 10 m. However, this may vary depending on conditions.
Interference with wireless transmission from other devices generating strong radio waves. Keep the tool and vacuum cleaner away from devices such as Wi-Fi devices and microwave ovens.
Other users are wirelessly activating the vacuum cleaner with their tools. Turn off the wireless activation button on other tools or cancel the registration of other tools.

MAINTENANCE

CAUTION: Always ensure that the tool is switched off and the battery is removed before performing any inspection or maintenance.

CAUTION: Never use gasoline, benzine, thinner, alcohol or similar solvents. They may cause discoloration, deformation or cracking.

To maintain PRODUCT SAFETY AND RELIABILITY, all repairs, any maintenance or adjustment should be performed by Makita Authorized or Factory Service Centers, with Makita only using Makita replacement parts.
