Important Safety Notes:
- Electrical works must be performed by a certified electrician.
- It is recommended to have stones laid by a specialist.
- This appliance is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience, unless supervised.
- Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
- For public saunas without a timer, a pilot lamp indicating the heater is on must be installed in the attendant's room.
The HUUM HIVE electric sauna heater delivery set includes:
- Electric heater
- Installation and operation manual
The electric heater also requires a control panel and stones.
Things to Check Before Installation
- Ensure the heater's output (kW) matches the sauna room volume (ft³/m³). Refer to Table 1.
- Add an additional volume of 53 ft³ (1.5 m³) for each square meter of uninsulated brick, tile, or glass walls.
- The correct heater output is determined by the room volume as per Table 1.
- Incorrect dimensioning of the heater and sauna room will void the manufacturer's warranty.
- Refer to Table 2 for minimal safe distances between the ceiling, walls, and the heater.
Installation
Positioning the Heater
- Position the heater to maintain a safe distance from flammable materials.
- Install the heater to prevent physical contact with people and avoid dangerous situations during heating.
- The heater holds approximately 550 lb (250 kg) of stones.
- Power cable inputs are located on the bottom cover of the heater.

Connecting the Heater to the Power Supply
- Install a disconnect device (circuit breaker) on the power circuit before the sauna controller.
- Only a certified electrician may connect the heater.
- The power cable must comply with UL 62 (US) and CSA 49 (Canada) standards.
- Connecting without an earth-leakage circuit breaker is recommended.
- Maximum current intensity for cable cross-section and circuit breaker are in Table 2.
- Secure the cable to the clamp on the cover screw.
Attention: Do not use non-heat-resistant PVC-insulated cable. The joint box must be waterproof and located up to 19.7 in (50 cm) from the floor.
Connection steps:
- Open the heater's electrical box cover.
- Connect the power cable to the terminal block per the circuit diagram.
- Close the cover.
- Secure the cable with a cable strap.

Fitting the Stones
- Ensure heating elements are not bent during stone fitting.
- Adequate air circulation around heating elements is crucial.
- Stack stones sparsely between elements. Overcrowding can cause overheating and reduce lifespan.
- Suitable stones are 1.97-3.94 in (5-10 cm) in diameter.
- Stack stones tightly on the outer surface, ensuring heating elements are not visible.
- Ceramic stones are permitted at the user's discretion.
ATTENTION! If the stone container is filled too sparsely, it poses a fire hazard!
Stone fitting visual guide:

- [Correct] Stone arrangement optimal
We recommend a specialist for laying stones.
Initial insulation resistance may be lower due to moisture from storage/transport. This moisture evaporates after 1-2 hours of heating.
Controlling the Heater
- Use certified control panels with thermal control. Heater output must stay within the control panel manufacturer's specified range.
- The product requires a control unit with a timer function.
- For public saunas, timers are mandatory. For apartments, hotels, etc., the operating period is limited to 12 hours with a 6-hour rest period before automatic restart. For other appliances, the timer limit is 6 hours, with no automatic restart.
Guard Rails
- Install a guard rail around the heater. Use materials with low heat capacity and poor thermal conductivity.
- If using flammable materials, maintain specified minimal safety clearances between the heater and constructions.
ATTENTION! Installing the heater closer than the minimal required protection belt distance increases the risk of fire!
Sauna Room Requirements
Wall Materials and Insulation
All heat-accumulating wall surfaces (brick, glass brick, plaster, etc.) must be insulated for optimal heater performance.
Sufficiently insulated construction includes:
- A 4-inch (min. 2-inch / 100 mm min. 50 mm) insulation wool layer.
- Damp-proofing with taped aluminum paper or reflective material.
- A 0.4-inch (10 mm) air gap between damp protection and interior boarding.
- Interior finishing with light wooden boards (approx. 0.5-0.65 in / 12-16 mm thick).
- A minimum 0.2-inch (5 mm) air gap at the edge of ceiling panels at the upper part of the wall paneling.
To optimize heater performance, consider lowering the ceiling height (standard 82.7-90.6 in / 2100-2300 mm, min. 78.7 in / 2000 mm) to reduce volume. The ceiling should have at least a 4-inch (100 mm) insulation layer and be boarded as described. Use wood for interior surfaces, except for heat-resistant walls near the heater.
ATTENTION! Insulation of warm masonry walls requires approval from a fire inspector. Insulating active flues is prohibited!
ATTENTION! Covering walls or floor with non-combustible material like mineral tiles directly on the surface may cause severe overheating.
Floor of the Sauna Room
Heater stones can crumble due to temperature changes. Fragments washed by steam water can damage plastic flooring. Hot stone chips and steam spray may infiltrate light tile grout. Use ceramic tiles and dark joint filler under and around the heater to prevent aesthetic damage.
Ventilation of the Sauna
- Ensure efficient ventilation for sufficient oxygen and fresh air. Direct fresh air towards the top of the heater stones.
- Alternatively, fresh air can be directed from under the heater.
- The air inlet must have an adjustable valve.
- The exhaust valve should be installed on the opposite wall from the inlet, at least 7.9 inches (20 cm) above the inlet valve's height.
- An additional ventilation valve at the upper part of the sauna is recommended for complete room ventilation.
Warnings
- Always check the sauna room and heater before turning on the electric heater.
- The heater must be correctly filled with stones to operate.
- Do not cover the heater; this is a fire hazard.
- Do not touch a working heater; risk of burns.
- Poor ventilation can over-dry wood, creating a fire hazard.
- Use only tap water for steam. Never use a water hose.
- Ensure at least 2 inches (5 cm) of fireproof thermal insulation under the boarding.
- Sauna doors must always open outwards.
- Do not use the sauna for unintended purposes.
- Do not install more than one heater in the sauna room.
- Undiluted sauna essences can ignite when poured directly onto stones.
- Never leave small children unattended in the sauna.
- Sudden cooling after a sauna session is not recommended for those with poor health. Consult a doctor.
- Enjoy the sauna as long as it is comfortable.
- Keep this information in a safe place.
- The product warranty does not cover heating elements.
