Introduction
The Sony Stereo Bluetooth® Headset SBH60 is designed to make your life more convenient during your travels. You can use it with an Android™ device like a phone or tablet, or with a Bluetooth® compatible device such as a phone, computer, or music player that does not have Android technology. By pairing with a compatible device, you can use the headset to control incoming and outgoing calls, or listen to music.
Hardware Overview
The headset features the following components:
- 1. Music/Call Button: Press to play or pause the current media file. Press to answer incoming calls. Press and hold to reject incoming calls.
- 2. Volume Button: Press the button up or down to adjust the volume.
- 3. 3.5 mm Audio Jack: Connect the headset with a cable if you do not wish to use a wireless connection.
- 4. Micro USB Port: Insert the USB cable here to charge the battery.
- 5. Earpad: For the ear.
- 6. Notification Light:
- Red flashing: Battery level too low.
- Blue flashing: Headset in pairing mode.
- White flashing: Incoming call.
- 7. Power Button: Press and hold this button to turn the headset on or off. If the headset is on, briefly press this button to activate a notification light indicating the battery level through various colors:
- Red flashing: Low battery level.
- Yellow: Medium battery level.
- Green: High battery level.
- 8. Microphone
- 9. NFC Detection Area: Tap other devices in this area during NFC pairing.
Basic Concepts
Battery Charging
Before using the Stereo Bluetooth® Headset SBH60 for the first time, charge it for approximately 1 hour. Sony chargers are recommended.
To charge the headset:
- Plug one end of the USB cable into the charger.
- Plug the other end of the cable into the Stereo Bluetooth® Headset SBH60's micro USB port.
- Once the headset is fully charged, the notification light will illuminate green.
Powering the Headset On and Off
To turn the headset on: Press and hold the power button until the blue notification light flashes once.
To turn the headset off: Press and hold the power button until the white notification light flashes three times rapidly.
Adjusting Volume
During a call or while listening to music, press the volume button up or down.
Reset and Restart
You can reset the Stereo Bluetooth® Headset SBH60 to its factory default settings. This action, which removes all pairing data from the headset, is often necessary if the headset stops functioning correctly.
You can also force a restart of the Stereo Bluetooth® Headset SBH60 if the accessory becomes locked or does not restart normally. Forcing a restart does not delete any pairing data.
To reset factory settings:
- Turn off the headset, then connect the charger to begin charging.
- Press and hold the call button until the white notification light begins to flash.
To force restart the headset: Press and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds until the headset restarts.
Placement Instructions
For optimal microphone performance, ensure the headset is worn correctly, with the earpiece marked "L" in the left ear and the earpiece marked "R" in the right ear.
First Steps
Preparing to Use with a Bluetooth® Device
Before you can start using the headset with a Bluetooth® device, you must pair the headset with the Bluetooth® device either manually or automatically via NFC.
To Manually Pair with a Bluetooth® Device
- Bluetooth® Device: Ensure Bluetooth® is turned on.
- Turn off the headset.
- Headset: Press and hold the power button until the blue notification light starts flashing rapidly.
- Bluetooth® Device: Search for Bluetooth® devices, then select SBH60 from the list of available devices.
- Bluetooth® Device: Follow the pairing instructions on the screen.
To Automatically Pair with a Bluetooth® Device (NFC)
- Bluetooth® Device: Ensure NFC is turned on and the screen is active and unlocked.
- Place the Bluetooth® device over the headset so that the NFC detection areas of each device touch.
- Bluetooth® Device: Follow the pairing instructions that appear.

To Reconnect to a Bluetooth® Device
Briefly press the call button.
Using the Headset in Wired Mode
You can also use the Stereo Bluetooth® Headset SBH60 in wired mode. By inserting an audio cable into the 3.5 mm audio jack, the headset disconnects from paired Bluetooth® devices and turns off automatically. You can then use the headset in wired mode via a cable connection, which does not require the headset to be powered on.
Using the Headset
Using the Headset for Phone Calls
Use the headset to manage incoming calls. For example, you can answer or reject a call. You can also switch between ongoing calls. The supported number of ongoing calls may vary depending on the network or telephone operator.
- To answer a call: When you hear an incoming call signal, press the call button.
- To end a call: During an ongoing call, press the call button.
- To reject a call: When you hear an incoming call signal, press and hold the call button.
- To answer a second call: When you hear an incoming call signal during an ongoing call, press the call button. The current call will be put on hold.
- To reject a second call: When you hear an incoming call signal during an ongoing call, press and hold the call button.
- To switch between ongoing calls: Press the call button twice quickly.
Using the Headset for Music
You can listen to music from your phone or another Bluetooth® compatible device using the headset.
To listen to music:
- Open the music playback application on your Bluetooth® device and select the track you want to listen to.
- To play a track, press the Music button.
- To pause a track, press the Music button again.
To move between tracks:
- To advance to the next track, press and hold the volume up button.
- To go back to the previous track, press and hold the volume down button.
Using the Headset with Two Devices Simultaneously
The headset has two different connection modes: multipoint mode and single-point mode. Multipoint mode helps you manage two connections at the same time. For example, if you connect your headset to two mobile phones, you can receive calls from both without having to disconnect and reconnect.
Single-point mode is activated by default. If you want to use the headset with two devices simultaneously, you must manually switch to multipoint mode. A maximum of two devices can be connected in multipoint mode. If you pair the headset with a third device, the first paired device will be disconnected.
To Switch to Multipoint Mode
- Ensure the headset is turned on.
- Press and hold the power button and the volume up button until the purple notification light flashes twice.
To Manually Pair with Two Bluetooth® Devices
- Ensure the headset is in multipoint mode and has been correctly paired with the first Bluetooth® device.
- Turn off the headset.
- Headset: Press and hold the power button until the blue notification light starts flashing rapidly.
- Second Bluetooth® Device: Search for Bluetooth® devices, then select SBH60 from the list of available devices. Follow the pairing instructions on the screen.
- First Bluetooth® Device: To reconnect the headset, select SBH60 from the list of associated devices in the Bluetooth® settings.
To Automatically Pair with Two Bluetooth® Devices (NFC)
- Ensure the headset is in multipoint mode and has been correctly paired with the first Bluetooth® device.
- Second Bluetooth® Device: Ensure NFC is turned on and the screen is active and unlocked.
- Place the second Bluetooth® device over the headset so that the NFC detection areas of each device touch. Pairing instructions will then appear on the screen.
- First Bluetooth® Device: To reconnect the headset, select SBH60 from the list of associated devices in the Bluetooth® settings.
To Switch to Single-Point Mode
- Ensure the headset is turned on and disconnected from all Bluetooth® devices.
- Press and hold the power button and the volume down button until the purple notification light flashes once.
Troubleshooting
Music from Another Device Does Not Play on the Headset
- Ensure the music playback device is connected to the headset.
- Restart the music playback application on the device.
- Ensure you have selected the correct music source.
The Headset Turns Off Automatically
If the headset beeps several times in a short period or the red notification light starts flashing rapidly before turning off, the battery level is low. Charge the battery.
No Connection Between Headset and Another Device
- Check that the headset is charged and within range of the device you want to connect to. A maximum distance of 10 meters (33 feet) without solid objects in between is recommended.
- Disable the Bluetooth® function on the other device to close all connections, then re-enable this function and re-pair the headset to the device.
Unexpected Behavior
Reset the headset.
