Important Safety Instructions
Please read and retain all safety and operating instructions before operating the product. Adhere to all warnings and follow all instructions.
- Cleaning: Unplug from the wall outlet before cleaning. Use a damp cloth; avoid liquid or aerosol cleaners.
- Attachments: Use only manufacturer-recommended attachments.
- Water and Moisture: Do not use near water (e.g., bath tub, sink, wet basement, swimming pool).
- Accessories: Use only with stable carts, stands, or tables recommended by the manufacturer.
- Cart Usage: Move product and cart combinations with care to prevent overturning.
- Ventilation: Do not block cabinet slots and openings. Ensure proper ventilation, especially in built-in installations.
- Power Sources: Operate only from the indicated power source and connect to a MAINS socket outlet with protective earthing.
- Power-Cord Protection: Route cords to prevent them from being walked on or pinched.
- Mains Plug: Ensure the mains plug (disconnect device) remains readily operable.
- Outdoor Antenna Grounding: Ground antenna/cable systems according to electrical codes (e.g., NEC Article 810) for protection against surges and static charges.
- Lightning: Unplug the product and disconnect antennas during lightning storms or long periods of disuse to prevent damage.
- Power Lines: Keep outside antenna systems away from overhead power lines; contact can be fatal.
- Overloading: Do not overload wall outlets or extension cords to prevent fire or shock hazards.
- Flame Sources: Do not place naked flame sources (e.g., lighted candles) on the product.
- Object and Liquid Entry: Never push objects into openings or spill liquids on the product to avoid electric shock or fire.
- Headphones: Excessive sound pressure from headphones can cause hearing loss.
- Damage Requiring Service: Unplug and refer servicing to qualified personnel if the power cord is damaged, liquid has spilled, the product is exposed to rain/water, it does not operate normally, has been dropped, or shows a distinct change in performance.
- Replacement Parts: Ensure service technicians use manufacturer-specified or equivalent replacement parts.
- Battery Disposal: Comply with governmental regulations for battery disposal.
- Safety Check: After service or repairs, request safety checks from the technician.
- Wall or Ceiling Mounting: Mount only as recommended by the manufacturer.
Warning Symbols:
- Lightning flash with arrowhead: Indicates the presence of uninsulated "dangerous voltage" within the product enclosure, posing a risk of electric shock.
- Exclamation point in triangle: Alerts the user to important operating and maintenance (servicing) instructions in the accompanying literature.
- Caution symbol: "Caution: Risk of electric shock. Do not open. No user-serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel."
Placement Caution: Leave at least 10 cm space around the unit (left, right, rear, top panels) for proper ventilation.
FCC Statement: This equipment complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules for Class B digital devices, designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in residential installations. Modifications not expressly approved by NAD Electronics could void the user's authority to operate the equipment. This device complies with FCC/Industry Canada license-exempt RSS standards. Operation is subject to two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) it must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. For Industry Canada compliance, antenna type and gain must be approved by Industry Canada. To prevent electric shock, match the wide blade of the plug to the wide slot and insert fully. The marking and rating plate is on the rear panel. Do not expose to rain or moisture. Do not place liquid-filled objects on the apparatus. The mains plug serves as the disconnect device and must remain operable. Batteries must not be exposed to excessive heat. Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced; use only same or equivalent type. Appliances with a protective earth terminal must be connected to a mains outlet with protective earth connection.
MPE Reminder: Maintain a separation distance of 20 cm or more between the device antenna and persons during operation for FCC/IC RF exposure compliance.
Environmental Protection: At the end of its useful life, this product must not be disposed of with regular household waste. Return it to a collection point for recycling of electrical and electronic equipment. Materials can be reused in accordance with their markings.
Record Model and Serial Number: Locate these on the back of the cabinet for future reference.

Unpacking and Setup
What's in the Box:

Save the Packaging: Keep the original box and packaging for safe transport or moving.
Quick Setup
- Place the D 3045 on a firm, level surface (not a soft surface like carpet).
- Ensure the unit is unplugged from the mains power source. Power down or unplug associated components before making connections.
- Connect speakers to the LEFT and RIGHT SPEAKERS terminals.
- Connect source devices to the corresponding input sockets:
- HDMI: HDMI ARC
- S/PDIF sources: OPTICAL 1, OPTICAL 2, COAXIAL
- Analog sources: LINE 1, LINE 2, PHONO (MM)
- USB sources: Computer
- Other sources: Bluetooth
- Connect the mains power cord to the AC mains input of the D 3045 and then to a mains power source.
- With all sources connected and the unit powered up, press the Standby button (o) to switch ON the D 3045.
- Start listening by rotating the SOURCE knob to select the desired input and the Volume knob to adjust the audio level.
Restore D3045 to Factory Default Settings: While in operating mode, press and hold the remote control's "DIM" button until "Reset" appears. The source will default to OPTICAL 1.
Identification of Controls
Front Panel Controls
- 1 (STANDBY): Press to switch ON from standby mode. Press and hold to switch back to standby mode. The Standby indicator changes color (amber to bright) when powered ON.
- 2 VOLUME: Rotate clockwise or counterclockwise to adjust audio level. Rotating the knob restores audio from mute mode.
- 3 SOURCE: Rotate clockwise or counterclockwise to select the desired input source.
- 4 DISPLAY: Shows sources, audio level, and other indicators. The display orientation (vertical or horizontal) matches the unit's orientation. Note: Display turns off after 5 minutes of inactivity; it can be restored by a remote command or rotating a control.
- 5 PHONES: 3.5 mm stereo jack socket for headphone listening. Features low-noise circuitry for various headphone impedances. Adjust audio level with the VOLUME control. Ensure volume is at minimum before connecting/disconnecting headphones. Listening at high levels can damage hearing. Inserting headphones automatically mutes the loudspeakers.
Rear Panel Connections
- 6 GROUND TERMINAL: For connecting a ground lead wire if a separate earth ground is necessary. Consult a licensed electrician for proper grounding installation. The grounding wire is not supplied.
- 7 PHONO (MM): Input for Moving Magnet (MM) phono cartridges. Connect your turntable's RCA leads here.
- 8 LINE 1: Connect to analog outputs of other audio devices using a 3.5mm stereo plug to RCA connector adapter (not supplied).
- 9 LINE 2: Connect to analog outputs of devices like CD players, preamplifiers, or processors using RCA-to-RCA stereo cables (not supplied).
- 10 PRE/SUB OUT: Full range output terminals with dual function as PRE-OUT or SUBWOOFER OUT. Turn OFF the unit and associated devices before connecting or disconnecting.
- PRE OUT: Use as a full-range preamplifier output to an external power amplifier. Connect via RCA-to-RCA stereo cable. Output level is controlled by the D 3045's volume control.
- SUB OUT: Connect to the low-level input of a powered subwoofer using RCA-to-RCA stereo cable. Use subwoofer controls for preferred performance.
- 11 OPTICAL 1-2, COAXIAL: Connect to optical or coaxial digital outputs of sources like CD/BD/DVD players, digital cable boxes, or tuners. Important Note: Digital audio inputs accept PCM audio signal only (24/192 capable). Ensure source digital output is set to PCM.
- 12 COMPUTER: Asynchronous USB 2.0 input (24 bit/384 kHz) for high-performance audio streaming. Use a Type A to Type B USB cable (not supplied). Set computer's sound/audio device to "D3045" or "NAD USB Audio". Minimum PC System Requirement: Windows 7 or higher. For Mac: macOS Snow Leopard (version 10.6) or later. Download the NAD USB Audio driver from nadelectronics.com.
- 13 SERVICE: For firmware upgrades only. Refer to the NAD website for upgrade procedures.
- 14 HDMI ARC: Connect to a TV supporting Audio Return Channel (ARC) using an HDMI cable. The D 3045 will output audio from the TV. Important: Ensure ARC-connected devices output PCM audio format.
- 15 +12V TRIGGER IN: Connect to a remote device's +12V DC output jack using a 3.5mm mono cable. Requires the controlling device to have a +12V trigger output.
- 16 SPEAKERS: Connect to your left and right speakers using appropriate speaker wire, observing polarity (+/-).
- 17 AC MAINS INPUT: Connect the detachable mains power cord here. Ensure it's firmly connected to the unit before plugging into the mains. Disconnect the mains plug from the power source first when unplugging the cord from the unit.
AMP 3 Remote Control
The AMP 3 remote control provides access to various functions:
- 1 ON/OFF: Powers the unit ON from standby or switches it to standby mode.
- 2 SOURCE d/f: Selects input sources.
- 3 DIM: Toggles display brightness (dim, bright, or off).
- 4 MUTE: Temporarily mutes or restores audio. Press MUTE again, use VOL d/f, or rotate the VOLUME knob to restore.
- 5 VOLUME d/f: Increases or decreases loudness.
- 6 BASS: Toggles Bass EQ settings (Bass EQ, HP 120Hz, HP 80Hz, HP 40Hz). Bass EQ boosts bass by 6 dB. HP settings attenuate frequencies below the specified cutoff. Press and hold BASS to toggle Bluetooth discoverability (BT ON/BT OFF).
- 7 BLUETOOTH CONTROLS: (Applicable in BT Receive or Transmit mode)
- Press and hold [u] button to toggle between Bluetooth RECEIVE and TRANSMIT modes.
- Use [9/0] buttons to select connectable Bluetooth devices in TRANSMIT mode.
Other Features
About Qualcomm aptX™ HD
aptX™ HD is a Bluetooth audio technology that reduces audio file size for efficient wireless transmission without compromising sound quality. It enables the D 3045 to deliver High Definition (HD) audio, providing a "better-than-CD" listening experience.
Bluetooth Modes
The D 3045 supports two Bluetooth modes:
- RECEIVE: Audio stream is received from a source device.
- TRANSMIT: Audio is streamed or sent to another device.
Selecting Receive or Transmit Mode: While on the BT source, press and hold the [u] button until the display shows RECEIVE. Press and hold [u] again until it shows TRANSMIT.
Bluetooth at Receive Mode
To pair a Bluetooth device:
- On your iOS, Android, or compatible device, go to Settings > Bluetooth and scan for devices.
- Select the D 3045's unique device ID from the list and pair/connect.
- Upon successful pairing, the display will show "PAIRED" and then "PLAYING" when music is played.
Bluetooth at Transmit Mode
The D 3045 can connect or pair with other source devices:
- In TRANSMIT mode, use the AMP 3 [9/0] buttons to scroll through selectable Bluetooth devices.
- Press [4] to pair with a selected device. The display will show "Paired" and the device name. Press [u] again to unpair ("Unpaired" shown).
Note: A Bluetooth device paired in Transmit mode will not automatically reconnect when the D 3045 is powered up from standby.
Bluetooth Availability:
- BT ON (discoverable): Press and hold [BASS] button until "BT ON" is displayed.
- BT OFF (invisible): Press and hold [BASS] button until "BT OFF" is displayed.
Master Quality Authenticated (MQA)
MQA is an end-to-end technology that captures and delivers master quality audio. The D 3045 includes a decoder and renderer for MQA, ensuring MQA-encoded files sound identical to the source. It supports MQA content from Computer, Optical 1, Optical 2, and Coaxial sources.
MQA Indicators:
- MQA: Indicates decoding and playback of an MQA file, confirming provenance.
- MQA.: Indicates playback of an MQA Studio file, verified by the artist/producer or copyright owner.
Foobar2000 for MQA Playback
Foobar2000 is a freeware audio player for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android that supports bit-perfect playback required for MQA. Download the latest version from www.foobar2000.org/download.
Installing Foobar2000 for Windows Platform:
- Download and install the latest foobar2000 freeware.
- Download the WASAPI output plug-in for Foobar2000 from www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_out_wasapi.
- Run foobar2000. Go to File > Preferences > Components and confirm "WASAPI output support" is installed.
- Go to the "Playback" tab. Under "Replay/Gain", set "Source Mode" and "Processing" to "None", then click "Apply".
- Connect the D3045 "COMPUTER" port to your computer's USB port using a Type A to Type B cable (not supplied).
- In foobar2000, go to Playback > Output. Under "Device", select "WASAPI (event): Speakers (D3045)" or "WASAPI (push): Speakers (D3045)" and click "Apply".
- Activate Sample Rate in the playlist view by right-clicking a header and selecting "Columns > Sample Rate". You can add other indicators like Bit Rate or File Size.
- Manually input the sample rate if the column header is not standard (File > Preferences > Display > Default User Interface > Playlist View > Custom Columns > Name: Sample Rate > Pattern: %samplerate%).
- With D3045 as the default speaker, go to "Properties" > "Advanced". Ensure both "Exclusive Mode" options are selected.
- Foobar2000 installation is complete. Use it to playback MQA files from your computer to the D3045.
Auto Standby
The D 3045 can automatically enter standby mode after 30 minutes of inactivity and no active source input.
- Enable Auto Standby: While in standby mode, press and hold the AMP 3 remote's "OFF" button until the Standby indicator blinks once.
- Disable Auto Standby: While in standby mode, press and hold the AMP 3 remote's "OFF" button until the Standby indicator blinks twice.
Auto Sense
Auto Sense allows the D 3045 to wake from standby when an active source input is detected.
Conditions for Auto Sense: Auto Standby must be enabled. If IR Learning with a TV remote is completed, Auto Sense is activated by OPTICAL 1 or OPTICAL 2 inputs. If no IR Learning is done, it activates on any source input (except analog, which wakes to Line 2). The unit powers up to the source that triggered it, unless it's an analog input.
- Enable Auto Sense Mode: While in standby mode, press and hold the AMP 3 remote's "SOURCE d" button until the Standby icon (o) blinks once.
- Disable Auto Sense Mode: While in standby mode, press and hold the AMP 3 remote's "SOURCE d" button until the Standby icon (o) blinks twice.
TV Connect
TV Connect allows the D 3045 to provide sound for your TV and learn mute/volume commands from your TV remote. It can also automatically power up to the OPTICAL source when a digital TV output signal is detected.
Configuring TV Connect:
- Connect your TV's digital optical output to OPTICAL 1 or OPTICAL 2.
- Enable Auto Standby mode.
- Enable Auto Sense mode.
- Perform IR learning with your TV remote control.
IR Learning Procedure: Point the TV remote and D 3045 front screen towards each other.
- Press and hold [MUTE] on the AMP 3 remote to initiate IR learning mode. Display shows "LEARNING Choose One Key".
- Press [ON] on the AMP 3 remote. Display shows "LEARNING Power".
- Press [ON] on the TV remote. Display shows "LEARNING Press Again".
- Press [ON] on the TV remote again. Display shows "LEARNING Power OK Next Key".
- Repeat steps 2-4 to learn "Volume +", "Volume -", and "Mute" controls. For each, press the corresponding button on the AMP 3 remote, then the TV remote twice. The display will show learning status like "LEARNING VOL + OK Next Key".
- Press and hold "MUTE" on the AMP 3 remote to exit learning mode. Learned functions are saved.
Note: Power ON, Vol+, Vol-, and Mute can be learned in any order.
Turn Off TV's Internal Speakers: Disable your TV's internal speakers via its setup menu for optimal D 3045 audio output.
Clear Learned IR Codes: Press and hold the D 3045's [MUTE] button. When "LEARNING... Choose One Key" appears, press and hold [MUTE] again. Learned codes are deleted when the display exits learning mode.
Feet Installation Guide
Dome-shaped feet are supplied for optional installation. Two methods are suggested for placement. Ensure the D 3045 is stable and balanced with the feet installed.
Specifications
All specifications are measured according to IHF 202 CEA 490-AR-2008 standard. THD is measured using AP AUX 0025 passive filter and AES 17 active filter.
