Barco Displays on non-Barco Display Controllers [ver. 13]

1. Introduction

The purpose of this document is to:

• Provide a compatibility matrix of tested non-Barco display controllers with Barco displays
• Describe Display Communication methods
• Provide tested driver versions for use with non-Barco display controllers

How to read the compatibility matrix:

• ✔️ Tested Compatible at full refresh rate
• ⚠️ Tested Compatible with certain exceptions
• ❌ Not Compatible

2. MediCal QAWeb Compatibility

Non-Barco cards listed in this document have been tested compatible with all basic QAWeb functionality. Barco recommends using USB as the primary data connection between the workstation and display.

For this functionality, QAWeb 1.12.0 or later is needed and USB cables need to be attached. This version can be downloaded from the following location: http://www.barco.com/en/QAWeb.

For those displays without USB, communications will be sent across the Display Data Channel (DisplayPort or DVI). The communication policy can also be changed through the QAWeb user interface under the options menu, as seen in Figure 1.

The QAWeb user interface allows selection of communication channels. Options include:

• DDC (DVI or DisplayPort) first, then through USB
• USB first, then through DDC (DVI or DisplayPort) (recommended)
• DDC (DVI or DisplayPort) only
• USB only

3. Non-Barco Display Controller Drivers

Due to the large number of potential hardware configurations, Barco does not confirm compatibility of every specific driver available for non-Barco display controllers. However, all display controllers in this document listed as compatible have been validated using drivers openly available from the respective GPU manufacturer's website. The following is a table of drivers used in this testing.

4. Non-Barco Display Controller Compatibility

This section presents a detailed compatibility matrix for Barco display product models when used with various non-Barco display controllers. The matrix evaluates compatibility across different generations of NVIDIA graphics controllers (Maxwell, Pascal, RTX) and AMD Radeon Pro controllers. It indicates whether a specific Barco display model is compatible at full refresh rate (✔️), compatible with certain exceptions (⚠️), or not compatible (❌) with each tested non-Barco controller. The table covers a range of Barco display product lines including MDRC, MDNG, MDNC, MDCG, MDMG, MDCC, and MDMC series.

Compatibility Notes:

• ¹ Third party graphics controllers can only support 30-bit imaging at a refresh rate of 35 Hz on the MDNC-6121. Color calibration is not supported.
• ² When the AMD driver is in 30-bit imaging mode, QAWeb cannot calibrate displays using external sensors.
