Onkyo ABX-100 Music System with Docking Station
Thank you for purchasing the Onkyo docking music system. Please read this manual before making any connections or plugging the unit into the mains. Following the instructions in this manual will allow you to use the device optimally and get the most enjoyment from listening to music. Keep this manual for future reference.

- Do not use this apparatus near water.
- Clean only with a dry cloth.
- Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
- Do not disregard the safety purpose of polarized or grounding-type plugs. A polarized plug has two blades, one wider than the other. A grounding-type plug has three prongs, one for grounding the connected device. The safety of these plugs is for your safety. If the plug does not fit your outlet, consult an electrician to replace the obsolete outlet.
- Do not damage the power cord, especially near the plug, socket, or where the cord exits the device, and do not step on the power cord.
- Do not use any accessories not recommended by the manufacturer.
- Only use with a cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table recommended by the manufacturer or sold with the device. If a cart is used, exercise caution when moving the cart with the device on it to avoid injury from tipping.
- Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods.
- All servicing should be done by qualified personnel only. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as when the power cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.
- Damage Requiring Service: In the following cases, unplug the apparatus from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified personnel:
- A) If the power cord or plug is damaged.
- B) If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the apparatus.
- C) If the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture.
- D) If the apparatus does not operate normally or exhibits a marked change in performance. Do not attempt to operate controls or adjust settings not covered in this manual, as improper adjustment may result in damage that requires extensive work by a qualified technician.
- E) If the apparatus has been dropped or the cabinet damaged in any way.
- F) If the apparatus exhibits a distinct change in performance.
- Ingress of Liquids or Objects: Do not insert any objects into the apparatus through ventilation openings, as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-circuit parts, which could cause fire or electric shock.
- Do not expose the apparatus to water. Do not place any containers filled with liquids, such as vases, on the apparatus.
- Do not place any open flames, such as lit candles, on the apparatus.
- Batteries: When disposing of batteries, please follow local environmental regulations.
- Installation in an Enclosed Space: When installing the unit in a confined space, such as a bookshelf or audio rack, ensure adequate ventilation. Leave at least 20 cm of clear space above and on each side of the unit, and at least 10 cm behind the unit. The back of the shelf or cabinet above the unit should be at least 10 cm away from the wall to allow for hot air exhaust.
Precautions
- Copyright: It is illegal to record copyrighted material without the permission of the copyright holder, except for personal use.
- Care: Periodically wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a soft cloth dampened with a weak aqueous solution of a mild detergent. Immediately wipe the unit dry with a clean cloth. Do not use abrasive cloths, thinners, alcohol, or other chemical solvents, as they may damage the unit’s surface or remove panel markings.
- Power: ATTENTION! BEFORE CONNECTING THE UNIT TO THE MAINS FOR THE FIRST TIME, READ THE FOLLOWING SECTION. The mains voltage varies by country. The power supply unit is used to disconnect the unit from the mains. Ensure the power supply unit is easily accessible at all times. If you do not plan to use the unit for an extended period, unplug the unit’s power supply.
- Batteries and Heat: Do not expose batteries (installed or in packaging) to excessive heat such as direct sunlight, fire, etc.
- Never touch the unit with wet hands: never handle the unit or power cord with wet hands. If water or other liquid gets inside the unit, have it checked by your Onkyo dealer.
- Handling the Unit:
- ▲ When transporting the unit, use the original packaging. Pack the unit in the same way it was packed when purchased.
- ▲ Do not leave rubber or plastic items on the unit for extended periods, as these may leave marks on the unit’s casing.
- ▲ The top cover and rear panel of the unit may become warm during extended use. This is not a malfunction.
- ▲ If the unit is not used for a long time, it may not operate properly the next time it is turned on. Avoid excessively long periods of non-use.

- Power adapter (output: 15 V DC, 2 A) (The supplied power adapter may vary by country.)
Note:
The supplied power adapter for the ABX-100 is designed exclusively for the ABX-100. Do not use the power adapter with any other devices. Do not use any other power adapters with the ABX-100. This may cause the unit to malfunction.
Remote Control Unit
Before using the remote control unit, remove the insulating polymer film from the battery.
When using the remote control unit, point it towards the IR receiver of the unit as shown in the illustration.

Battery Replacement
Only CR2025 type batteries can be used.
- Slide the stopper to the side and hold it while pulling out the battery holder.

Notes:
- If the remote control unit stops working reliably, replace the battery.
- If you do not plan to use the remote control unit for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent damage from leakage or corrosion.
- A depleted battery should be removed from the remote control unit as soon as possible to prevent damage from leakage or corrosion.

General Connection Information
- ▲ Before making any connections, refer to the manuals supplied with the devices you are connecting.
- ▲ Do not turn on the unit until all other connections have been made and checked.
Connecting a Portable Audio Player
Connect the line input jack on the rear panel of the unit to the output jack of the player you are connecting.
You may need to purchase a suitable audio cable separately. The unit’s line input is equipped with a 3.5 mm TRS stereo jack.
Notes:
- ▲ Use an audio cable without any built-in potentiometers.
- ▲ If you are connecting the unit’s line input to the headphone output of a portable audio player, reduce the player’s volume before making the connection.
If the sound volume is insufficient even at the maximum volume setting on the unit, increase the volume on the portable audio player.
Choosing a Location
Since the acoustic systems are installed on the side panels of the unit, it is recommended to leave at least 20 cm of clear space on each side of the unit.
Universal Dock Adapter Installation for iPod
Slide the dock cover to the left to open the dock.

First, insert the front part of the dock adapter into the dock with the dock adapter connector facing down, then press the rear part of the dock adapter until it clicks. To remove the dock adapter, pull up its rear part. If the dock adapter cannot be removed by hand, use a thin object as a lever: insert it into the gap between the dock and the dock adapter and use it to remove the dock adapter.
Use a dock adapter that is compatible with your iPod/iPhone model.
If you have a dock adapter supplied with your iPod, use it.
If no dock adapter is supplied, purchase a suitable dock adapter separately.

- ▲ Installing iPod/iPhone devices directly into the dock without using a dock adapter may damage the dock connector.

Turning the Unit On
To turn the unit on, press the “ON/STANDBY” button on the unit or the remote control unit. Pressing the “ON/STANDBY” button again will put the unit into standby mode. The connected iPod or iPhone will charge.
Selecting the Signal Source
You can switch the unit’s input between the iPod input and the line input.
Use the “INPUT [<]/[>]” buttons on the remote control unit to select the input. You can also select the input by pressing the “INPUT” button on the unit sequentially.
Volume Adjustment
To increase the volume, use the “VOL Up [^]” button, and to decrease it, use the “VOL Down [v]” button.
You can also use the “VOLUME [^]/[v]” buttons on the remote control unit to adjust the volume.
Mute Function (Controlled only by Remote Control Unit)
To put the unit into “Mute” mode, press the “MUTING” button on the remote control unit. The display will show “Muting” for a few seconds. To exit “Mute” mode, press the “MUTING” button again.
Tips:
- When the unit is in “Mute” mode:
- Pressing any of the volume control buttons on the unit or remote control unit will exit “Mute” mode.
- ▲ If you turn off the unit, it will not be in “Mute” mode the next time you turn it on.

Display Brightness Adjustment (Controlled only by Remote Control Unit)
The unit is equipped with adjustable display brightness. By pressing the “DIMMER” button on the remote control unit sequentially, you can select one of two brightness levels (normal, dimmed) or turn off the backlight.

Tone Adjustment (Bass and Treble)
- Press the “TONE” button. The display will show “Tone Control”.
- Use the “[^]/[v]” buttons to adjust the bass frequencies. Adjustment is available in the range of –3 to +3.
- Press the “ENTER” button. The treble frequencies will start flashing on the display.
- Use the “[^]/[v]” buttons to adjust the treble frequencies.
- Press the “ENTER” button. The display indication will return to normal.
Note:
If you do not press any button within eight seconds, the unit will automatically exit the bass and treble adjustment mode, and the display indication will return to normal.

Super Bass Function (Controlled only by Remote Control Unit)
To activate the “Super Bass” function, press the “S.BASS” button on the remote control unit. The display will show “S.BASS”.

The bass boost will cycle each time the “S.BASS” button is pressed. When the “S.BASS” function is off, “S.BASS” is not displayed.

Notes:
- ▲ Before using your iPod/iPhone with the unit, update your iPod/iPhone firmware to the latest version available on Apple’s website.
- ▲ If you pause playback on your iPod/iPhone during standalone use, it will enter “sleep” (hibernation) mode after some time. If you then insert it into the unit’s dock in this mode, you will need to wait a few seconds before it is ready for use.

- Press the “Play/Pause [>/ll]” button. Playback will start.
Note:
Volume is adjusted using the “VOL [v]/[^]” buttons on the unit or remote control. Volume adjustment on the iPod/iPhone itself is disabled when connected to the unit.
Pausing Playback
To pause playback, press the “[/II]” button. Press this button again to resume playback.
Track Selection (Controlled only by Remote Control Unit)
To go to the beginning of the currently playing track, press the “Previous [l<<]” button. Pressing the “Previous [[<<]” button repeatedly allows you to select previous tracks.
Pressing the “Next [>>]]” buttons repeatedly allows you to select the next tracks.
Fast Forward and Rewind (Controlled only by Remote Control Unit)
To fast forward or rewind the currently playing track, press and hold the “Next [>>]]” or “Previous [l<<]” buttons, respectively.
Working with iPod/iPhone Menus
- To display the menu on the connected iPod/iPhone’s display, press the “MENU” button on the unit or the remote control unit.
- To select a menu item, use the “[^]/[v]” buttons, then press the “ENTER” button.
Playlist Selection (Controlled only by Remote Control Unit)
In playlist playback mode, press the “PLAYLIST [^]” or “PLAYLIST [v]” button to select the previous or next playlist, respectively.
Random Playback (Controlled only by Remote Control Unit)
In this mode, tracks from the iPod/iPhone are played in random order.
- Press the “SHUFFLE” button. The random playback symbol will appear on the iPod/iPhone display.
- Press the “Play [>/ll]” button to start playback.
Exiting Random Playback Mode
To exit random playback mode, press the “SHUFFLE” button. The random playback symbol will disappear from the iPod/iPhone display.
Repeat Playback (Controlled only by Remote Control Unit)
To enter repeat playback mode, press the “[REPEAT]” button. Select the type of repeat playback by pressing this button repeatedly:
- ▲ (symbol with digit 1) repeat playback of a single track;
- ▲ (symbol without digit) repeat playback of all tracks.
Exiting Repeat Playback Mode
Press the “[REPEAT]” button repeatedly until the repeat playback symbol no longer appears on the iPod/iPhone display.
Displaying Track Information (Remote Control Unit Only)
Additional information about the currently playing track can be displayed.
During playback, press the “DISPLAY” button repeatedly to display the following additional information:

- Artist name: artist name or title.
- Album name: album title.

Note:
- ▲ The clock can only be set when the unit is in standby mode. If the unit is on, press the “ON/STANDBY” button to put it into standby mode.

- Press the “ENTER” button.
- Use the “[^]/[v]” buttons to set the current time. Press and hold the button to change the value quickly.
Tip:
- ▲ Press the “Display” button when the unit is in standby mode to display the current time and day of the week for eight seconds.

Using the Timers (Controlled only by Remote Control Unit)
The ABX-100 is equipped with three timers: two programmable timers for automatic playback and a sleep timer, which is used to automatically turn off the unit after a set interval.
General Information on Timers
The following provides information on the two programmable timers. For information on the sleep timer, refer to page 13.
Automatic Repeat
Either of the two timers can be programmed to activate automatically every day or on specific days of the week.
- Every: The timer will activate every week on the specified days at the specified time.
- Everyday: The timer will activate every day at the specified time.
Programming Timers
Notes:
- ▲ The time must be set on the unit before programming the timers.
- If you do not press any button for one minute during timer programming, the programming procedure will be canceled.
- ▲ Timer programming is only possible when the unit is in standby mode. If the unit is on, press the “ON/STANDBY” button to put it into standby mode.
- ▲ Insert the iPod/iPhone into the dock and prepare it for playback.

- Use the “[^]/[v]” buttons to select either “Everyday” or “Every”, then press the “ENTER” button.
- If you selected “Everyday”, proceed to step 9.
- If you selected “Every”, use the “[<<]/[>>]]” buttons to select the days of the week when the timer should not activate. Then use the “[^]/[v]” buttons to change the display of these days to underscores and press the “ENTER” button.

- Use the “[^]/[v]” buttons to set the desired playback volume for the timer, then press the “ENTER” button. The timer symbol and its number will be displayed on the upper right part of the display for a few seconds.

Tip:
- You can display the current timer settings by pressing the “TIMER” button and then pressing the “ENTER” button repeatedly.
Turning Timers On and Off
- Press the “TIMER” button.
- Use the “[^]/[v]” buttons to select either “Timer1 Setup” or “Timer2 Setup”, then press the “ENTER” button.
- Use the “[^]/[v]” buttons to select “Timer1 On” or “Timer2 On”, then press the “ENTER” button.
- Press the “TIMER” button.
Using the Snooze Function
The unit is equipped with a “Snooze” function, which allows you to turn off the sound for five minutes during timer playback.
Activating the Snooze Function
After the timer has activated playback, press the “SNOOZE” button to activate the “Snooze” function. Playback will resume five minutes after pressing the “SNOOZE” button.
Using the Sleep Timer
The sleep timer is designed to automatically turn off the unit after a set interval.

To activate the sleep timer and set the desired interval, press the “SLEEP” button repeatedly.
The interval can be set from 10 to 90 minutes in 10-minute increments.
After the sleep timer is set, the display will show “Sleep 90” for eight seconds. When the sleep timer is set, the display shows the “ [SLEEP]” indication.
Displaying Remaining Time
To display the remaining time until the sleep timer activates, press the “SLEEP” button. Note that if you press the “SLEEP” button again while the remaining time is displayed, you will reduce the set sleep timer interval by 10 minutes.
Resetting the Sleep Timer
To reset the sleep timer, press the “SLEEP” button repeatedly until the display shows “Sleep Off”.

Other Settings (Resetting Settings)
When the unit is in standby mode, pressing the “MENU” button will display the following menu:

The following are the available settings for each of these options. (Factory settings are underlined.)
- 12/24H Format: 12H ↔ 24H
Switches the time display between 12-hour and 24-hour formats. On models sold in North America, the factory setting is 24H, and on other models, it is 12H.
- Beep: On ↔ Off
Turns the audible confirmation of button presses on the top panel of the unit ON or OFF.
Volume Limit
10 ↔ 40
Sets the maximum volume limit for the unit in the range of 10 to 40. Factory setting: 40.
Reset
Cancel OK
To reset all unit settings to their factory defaults, select “OK” and press the “ENTER” button.
- Use the “[^]/[v]” buttons to select a menu item, then press the “ENTER” button.
- Use the “[^]/[v]” buttons to change a setting.
- Press the “ENTER” button to enter the changed value and exit the menu.
Note:
While in the menu, you can press the “MENU” button to exit the menu.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter any malfunction with the unit, refer to this section for information on how to resolve it.
If you cannot resolve the malfunction yourself, try resetting the unit’s settings before contacting your Onkyo dealer.
Instructions for resetting the unit’s settings are provided above on this page in the “Reset” section of “Other Settings”.
Please note that resetting the unit’s settings will delete all changes you have made to the unit’s configuration.
Power
Unit Does Not Turn On
- ▲ Ensure the power adapter is plugged into a wall outlet and properly connected to the unit (see page 7).
- ▲ Unplug the power adapter from the wall outlet, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in.
Unit Turns Off Unexpectedly
- If the sleep timer was set and the display shows “ [SLEEP]”, the unit will automatically turn off after the set interval (see page 13).
- ▲ After timer playback is complete, the unit will automatically enter standby mode (see page 12).
Sound
No Sound
- ▲ Ensure the volume is not too low (see page 7).
- Ensure the correct input is selected (see page 7).
- ▲ Ensure the unit is not in “Mute” mode (see page 8).
- Check all connections and reconnect them if necessary (see page 7).
Sound Quality is Unsatisfactory
- ▲ Sound quality may be affected by strong electromagnetic fields, such as those generated by a television. Move such devices further away from the ABX-100.
- ▲ If electronic devices emitting strong radio waves, such as mobile phones during a call, are near the unit, the unit may produce noise.
Playback Interrupts Due to Vibration
The ABX-100 is not a portable unit. It should be placed in locations not subject to shocks and vibrations.

iPod/iPhone
No Sound
- ▲ Ensure the iPod/iPhone is properly inserted into the unit’s dock. Even thin cases can interfere with the connection of the device and iPod/iPhone, so always remove the iPod/iPhone from its case before inserting it into the unit’s dock (see page 7).
- ▲ Ensure the unit is turned on, the iPod input is selected, and the volume is not too low.
- Ensure your iPod/iPhone model is compatible with the unit (see page 4).
iPod Control via Unit’s Remote Control Unit is Malfunctioning
- ▲ Ensure the iPod/iPhone is properly inserted into the unit’s dock. Even thin cases can interfere with the connection of the device and iPod/iPhone, so always remove the iPod/iPhone from its case before inserting it into the unit’s dock (see page 7).
- ▲ iPod/iPhone control may not always be possible immediately after inserting it into the dock. Wait a few seconds for the iPod/iPhone to exit standby mode.
- ▲ Some device functions may not work as described in this manual, depending on the iPod/iPhone model used, its firmware version, and the type of material being played (see page 9).
- ▲ If your iPod/iPhone is not working, remove it from the dock, wait a few seconds, and then reinsert it into the dock.

Remote Control Unit
Remote Control Unit Not Working Properly
- ▲ Replace the battery with a new one.
- ▲ The remote control unit is too far from the unit, or there is an obstruction between it and the unit (see page 5).
- ▲ The unit’s IR receiver is exposed to bright light (such as from fluorescent lamps or sunlight).
External Signal Sources
No Sound When Playing from a Record Player
- Ensure your record player is equipped with a built-in preamplifier. If not, use an external preamplifier with a phono input.
Timers
Timers Not Working
- ▲ Ensure the current time is set on the unit (see page 11).
- Playback via timer is not possible if the unit is turned on when the timer activates. Ensure the unit is in standby mode (see page 11).
- ▲ If you are programming both timers, ensure their time intervals do not overlap.
- ▲ If you press the “SLEEP” or “TIMER” button during timer playback, the timer will be reset, and the unit will not automatically turn off at the set time (see page 12).
- Ensure the playback volume for the timer is set appropriately (see page 12).
Clock

- ▲ The AC power supply was interrupted, and the unit’s current time was reset. Set the time again (see page 11). All timers will be disabled, so you will need to re-enable the desired timers (see page 12). Timer settings will not be reset.
The ABX-100 is equipped with a built-in microcomputer. In rare cases, exposure to strong electromagnetic fields, noise from external signal sources, or static electricity may cause it to malfunction or lock up. If this occurs, unplug the unit’s power adapter, wait 10 seconds, and then plug it back in. If this procedure does not resolve the malfunction, reset the unit’s settings (see page 14).
