REFRIGERANTS

All refrigeration products contain refrigerants, which under federal law must be removed prior to product disposal. If you are getting rid of an old refrigeration product, check with a qualified disposal company for instructions.

IMPORTANT GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS

  • This appliance must be grounded. In the event of an electrical short circuit, grounding reduces the risk of electric shock by providing an escape wire for the electric current. This appliance is equipped with a cord having a grounding wire with a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into an outlet that is properly installed and grounded.
  • Consult a qualified electrician or serviceman if the grounding instructions are not completely understood or if doubt exists as to whether the appliance is properly grounded.
  • Do not use extension cords or ungrounded (two prong) adapters.

A three-pronged (grounding) plug should be used with a properly polarized and grounded outlet.

PLANNING INSTALLATION

⚠️ WARNING: Explosion Hazard. Keep flammable materials and vapors, such as gasoline, away from refrigerator. Failure to do so can result in death, explosion, or fire.

  • The refrigerator should be located on a completely flat surface.
  • Leave about 2 to 4 inches (5-10 cm) between each side of the appliance and the wall.
  • Leave 12 inches (30 cm) between the top of the appliance and the ceiling.
  • Choose a location which is not exposed to sunlight, high temperature or humid, as humidity may cause stain.
  • The appliance can be adjusted by turning its two legs in the front of the bottom panel when it is unstable. Turning them in the clockwise direction can raise the refrigerator.
  • The location should be firm and flat. An unsecure position may cause noise and vibration. Put a sheet under the appliance to solve heat emission if locating it onto a carpet.
  • Make sure the adjustable legs are firm on the floor, and set the appliance slope backward slightly to keep the doors closed tightly.
  • Make note of the position of the contents and retain packaging for future packing and moving.
  • Do not lift by the door handle when moving the appliance.
  • Do not tilt the appliance more than 45 degrees.
  • Avoid strong vibration and collision.

Operation

Proper operation ensures efficiency and longevity:

  • Leave some space between items inside for air circulation.
  • Food should be kept in sealed packages to prevent drying or odor.
  • Hot food should be cooled down before placing into the appliance to prevent increased interior temperature and electric consumption.
  • Reducing the frequency of door opening can lower electric consumption.

⚠️ WARNING: Do not use any electronic equipment inside the appliance.

  • Allow the refrigerator to stand upright for 4 hours before using.
  • Plug into a grounded outlet (see Important Grounding Instructions on page 3).
  • The temperature is controlled manually by a knob. The numbers on the knob do not directly represent temperature; a larger number indicates a lower interior temperature. '0' is off. For normal use, set to '4'. For a lower temperature, use '4-7'. For a higher temperature, use '4-1'.

VACATION

Before leaving on vacation, remove perishable food. For extended absences, remove all food, turn off and unplug the appliance. Clean the interior and leave the door open.

MOVING THE REFRIGERATOR

  • Turn off and unplug the refrigerator.
  • Remove all food and securely tape down all loose items inside.
  • Tape the door shut.
  • Do not lift or pull the door handle during transportation.
  • Do not tilt the appliance more than 45 degrees, as this can damage the sealed system.
  • Avoid strong vibration or impact.

⚠️ WARNING: Excessive Weight Hazard! Use two or more people to move and install the refrigerator to prevent injury.

Cleaning and Maintenance

CLEANING

  • Interior: Clean with a mixture of warm water and baking soda (1-2 tablespoons per quart of water). Use a sponge or soft cloth, wring out excess moisture, and dry with a clean cloth.
  • Exterior: Clean with warm water and mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a clean, soft cloth.
  • Door Gasket: Keep the gasket clean for a proper seal. Clean frequently using the method described for the interior.

DEFROSTING

Frost build-up reduces efficiency. Defrost the freezer section when frost reaches a thickness of 1/4 inch.

  • Remove food from the refrigerator and freezer compartment.
  • Place a drip tray under the freezer compartment if your model has one, and empty it as needed.
  • Turn off and unplug the unit.
  • The defrosting process can take several hours; open the door to speed it up.
  • When complete, wipe the compartment with a soft cloth to remove remaining water.
  • Reset the refrigerator temperature as per operating instructions.

⚠️ WARNING: Do not use sharp or pointed objects to remove frost or ice, as this can damage the compartment walls and cooling coils, and will void the warranty.

POWER FAILURE

During a power failure, the refrigerator can store food for several hours. Do not add food or open the door. Disconnect the plug and reconnect when power is restored. Inspect and discard any spoiled or thawed food before resuming use.
