Invacare® Softform Active® 2 with RX Pump Quick Guide
Control Unit Menu Display
The control unit features a display with several indicators and buttons. Labeled parts include:
- A - Mute button: Used to silence audible alarms.
- B - System in cycle / Setup indicator (Operative LED): Flashes green during setup, solid green during normal operation.
- C - Alternating system / Timing failure indicator: Flashes red with an audible buzzer if a cycle time problem is recognized.
- D - Power failure indicator: Flashes red with an audible buzzer if the system has no power connection.
- E - Pressure failure / Low pressure indicator: Flashes red with an audible buzzer if a low pressure failure is recognized.
The relevant audible/visible indicator turns on when low pressure, power failure, or alternate failure is recognized. To mute the audible signal, press the Mute button. The visible indicator will flash until the problem is solved. If the problem is not solved within 10 minutes, the indicator will sound again. Refer to "Identifying and Repairing Faults" for more details.
Indicator Functions
Pos. | Description | Function |
---|---|---|
A | Mute button | Mutes audible alarms. Visible indicator flashes until the problem is solved. |
B | System in cycle / Setup indicator (Operative LED) | Green LED flashes during setup; solid green indicates normal operation. |
C | Alternating system / Timing failure indicator | Red LED flashes and buzzer sounds if a cycle time problem is recognized. |
D | Power failure indicator | Red LED flashes and buzzer sounds if there is no power connection (e.g., power failure, cord unplugged). Control unit restarts automatically when power is restored. |
E | Pressure failure / Low pressure indicator | Red LED flashes and buzzer sounds if a low pressure failure is recognized. |
Operation
- The power indicator will flash, and the control unit will enter static mode until pressure reaches 15 mmHg.
- The control unit then enters alternate mode, and the power indicator remains on.
- The cycle time is set at 10 minutes, and the pressure is set at 60 ± 3 mmHg.
? The first inflation of a new mattress: the indicator function (visible and audible indicators) will activate if the mattress does not inflate completely within 15 minutes.
Operation Failures
- During control unit operation, the low pressure indicator will activate within 1 minute if air hoses are disconnected or air cells are broken.
- In the case of abnormal alternation or no alternation, the audible signal will be activated, and the alternate failure indicator will flash.
Installing the System and CPR Procedure
Installing the System
The control unit has two built-in hangers [hanger-symbol] for mounting at the end of the bed or for placement on a horizontal surface. Placing the control unit on the floor will not affect performance but may expose it to accidental damage.
- Connect the CPR hose [hose-symbol] to the air outlets on the mattress and control unit [control-unit-symbol], ensuring the hose is not kinked or twisted. Allow space for bed rails to drop freely.
- Connect the mains power cable [power-cable-symbol] to the power supply socket [power-socket-symbol] of the control unit and a suitable outlet.
- Switch on the mains power of the outlet if present.
- Move the mechanical switch [mechanical-switch-symbol] on the left side of the control unit to the 'On' position. A faint single beep sounds, and the system in cycle light flashes while the system powers up.
CPR Procedure
The Invacare® Softform Active® 2 Rx mattress has been fully tested to comply with the current CPR standard of 5-6 cm compression depth. This was achieved at all stages of inflation/deflation.
- Hold down the Red CPR button [red-CPR-button-symbol].
- Pull the hose connector firmly away from the control unit.
- Switch off the control unit.
The mattress will start to deflate. The deflation time is 20 seconds.
When CPR is complete, reactivate the system by following the 'Installing the system' section.
Identifying and Repairing Faults
There are audio and visual alarms present on the control unit.
Problem / Alarm | Cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
Mattress not inflating (not alternating properly). | Mattress CPR hose disconnected. Power cable and fuse checked, control unit does not operate. Major leak in air cell or complete air insert. |
Connect CPR hose connector, lock it in place. Send control unit back to Invacare for repair. Replace leaking air cell. |
Alternating system / Timing failure indication | CPR hose or tube connectors kinked or split. Not alternating, rotor failure. No air (control unit failure). |
Unkink or replace split CPR hose or tube connectors. Send control unit back to Invacare for repair. Send control unit back to Invacare for repair. |
No power / Power failure indication | Control unit off. Power cord disconnected. No power in the power outlet. Power outage. Fuse blown. |
Check power source, turn unit on. Connect power cord and ensure the power source is on. Switch on the power outlet (if pole switch available). Have the power outlet repaired by an electrician. Wait until the power source has power. Change fuse on power inlet connector with spare fuse or identical replacement only (consult a trained engineer if unsure how to change a fuse). |
Pressure failure / Low pressure indication | Disconnection of CPR (connection hose). Disconnection of connector tubes to air cells in air insert. Kinked connection hose |
Connect hose properly. Check individual air cells in insert are correctly connected to connector tubes. Make sure that there are no kinks or bends in the hose. |
