Before Use

Before using the camera, check you have the following supplied accessories:

Note: USB AC adapter is not included but is typically provided with your smartphone.

Notes on Disposing of the Camera

This camera uses a built-in lithium-ion battery. When disposing of the camera, follow local regulations and dispose of it properly. Do not attempt to remove the battery, as this may result in injury. For proper disposal in the United States, contact 1-800-800-3854 Option #1 INSTAX.

*If the camera does not work properly, press the reset button. Ensure the battery is properly charged.

LCD Monitor

When powered on, the Shooting Screen displays. Press (Playback) to switch to the Playback Screen. Press the shutter button to return to the Shooting Screen.

Shooting Screen Indicators:

*Internal memory icon displays in red when 10 or fewer images can be saved.

Playback Screen Indicators:

Cross Key Guide Display

Appears briefly when starting up or switching screens, showing functions assigned to the cross keys.

Using the Cross Key

The cross keys (up, down, left, right) are used to select menu items or recall functions. The [MENU/OK] button displays the menu or makes selections.

Attaching the Strap

Attach the strap around your wrist to avoid dropping the camera.

Charging the Battery

Turn off the camera before charging. Connect the camera to a USB AC adapter (not included) using the supplied USB cable. Charging time is approximately 2 to 3 hours.

Charging Status Indication:

Charging from a PC: Connect directly. Do not use a USB hub. Charging may be discontinued if the PC enters sleep mode.

Note: The battery cannot be removed. Charge the battery fully before first use.

Powering on/off

Press and hold the (Power) button to turn the camera on or off.

Checking the Battery Level

Press (Back) on the Shooting or Playback Screen to view the battery level indicator on the LCD monitor.

A low battery icon appears when the level is critically low. The camera turns off automatically when the battery runs out.

The camera also has an auto power-off function to save battery.

Initial Settings

Upon first use, the camera guides you through setting the language, date/time, and smartphone pairing.

App Installation Instructions:

Install the FUJIFILM INSTAX MINI LIPLAY Smartphone App from your smartphone's app store (Google Play Store for Android, App Store for iOS). Requirements: Android Ver. 5.0+ or iOS Ver. 10+.

Setting Language, Date/Time, and Pairing:

  1. Turn on the power. The Language Setting screen appears.
  2. Select your preferred language and press [MENU/OK].
  3. Set the date order (YY.MM.DD, DD.MM.YY, MM/DD/YY) and press [MENU/OK].
  4. Set the year, month, day, hour, and minute using the cross keys and [MENU/OK].
  5. Configure Bluetooth settings for smartphone pairing. Press [MENU/OK] to confirm pairing. Press (Back) to skip pairing.

Pairing with Smartphone:

  1. Launch the INSTAX MINI LIPLAY Smartphone App and go to [SETTINGS].
  2. Press [Bluetooth settings].
  3. Press [Connect] on the app.
  4. Allow pairing on your smartphone.
  5. Confirm that Pairing Registration is complete.

Loading/Unloading the INSTAX Mini Instant Film Pack

Loading the INSTAX Mini Instant Film Pack:

  1. Slide the film door lock and open the film door.
  2. Insert the INSTAX Mini Instant Film Pack, aligning the yellow marks.
  3. Close the film door.
  4. Remove the black film cover that is automatically ejected.

Unloading the Used INSTAX Mini Instant Film Pack:

  1. Slide the film door lock and open the film door.
  2. Grasp the rectangular holes on the film pack and pull it out.

Basic Shooting and Playback

Shooting:

  1. Turn on the power.
  2. Configure Frame and Filter as needed.
  3. Decide the composition.
  4. Press the shutter button halfway to focus. A beep and green AF Frame indicate focus; a red AF Frame indicates no focus.
  5. Press the shutter button fully to take the photo.

Tips for shooting: Hold the camera steady, avoid touching the lens, press the shutter gently, and do not cover the flash or lens.

Notes on internal memory: If internal memory is full, you cannot shoot. Delete images or use a memory card. Back up important images. Data integrity cannot be guaranteed if the camera is submitted for repair.

Playing Back Images:

  1. Turn on the power.
  2. Press (Playback) to view the last taken image.
  3. Use or (Playback) to select the desired image.

Changing the Playback Screen Display:

You can zoom in on images and change the number of images displayed.

Printing

  1. Turn on the power.
  2. Press (Playback).
  3. Press or (Playback) to select the image.
  4. Configure settings like Frame and Zoom.
  5. Press (Print).
  6. Select [PRINT] or [PRINT WITH SOUND].

Note: For Print With Sound, link with the Sound Function of the INSTAX MINI LIPLAY Smartphone App.

  1. Press [MENU/OK] to start printing. For Print With Sound, use cross keys to adjust QR Code position. Press (Back) to cancel.
  2. When film unloading stops, remove the film.

Remaining Film Indicator

Dots at the bottom of the screen indicate remaining film. Dots change to squares as images are printed. Red dots appear when 2 or fewer images remain.

Note: For film handling, refer to the FUJIFILM INSTAX Mini Instant Film instruction manual. Film development takes about 90 seconds.

Selecting the Frame and Filter

Selecting the Frame:

  1. On the Shooting or Playback Screen, press the cross key.
  2. Press or to select the Frame type.
  3. Press or [MENU/OK] to apply the Frame. Press (Back) to return without applying. Select "No Frame" to cancel. Shortcut buttons can also be used.

Selecting the Filter:

  1. On the Shooting Screen, press the cross key.
  2. Press or to select the Filter type.
  3. Press or [MENU/OK] to apply the Filter. Press (Back) to return without applying. Select "No Filter" to cancel.

Recording Sound in Images

The camera can record sound with images.

Recording Sound When Shooting:

Choose between [After shooting] and [Before & after] modes in Rec Settings.

Recording Sound When Playing Back:

  1. Press (Sound) on the single image playback screen.
  2. Press [MENU/OK] or (Sound) to start recording. A recording icon appears.
  3. Maximum recording time is 10 seconds. Press to check the recording.

Note: If you press (Sound) while an image with sound is displayed, you will be prompted to overwrite the recording.

Various Types of Shooting

Shoot Using the Self-timer:

  1. On the Shooting Screen, press the cross key.
  2. Press or to select [2 SEC] or [10 SEC].
  3. Press [MENU/OK] or to apply the setting. An icon appears on the screen.
  4. Fully press the shutter button. The self-timer lamp will blink or light up and blink before shooting. Press (Back) to cancel.

Shooting Using the Flash:

Use flash in dark environments. Settings include AUTO FLASH, FORCED FLASH, and SUPPRESSED FLASH.

  1. On the Shooting Screen, press the cross key.
  2. Press or to select the Flash Setting.
  3. Press [MENU/OK] or to apply.
  4. Fully press the shutter button.

Types of Flash: Auto Flash (fires automatically in dark), Forced Flash (fires regardless of brightness), Suppressed Flash (does not fire).

Taking a Photo of Yourself (Selfie):

Hold the camera 30-50 cm from your face and use the selfie mirror.

Shooting Using the AF/AE Lock:

Press the shutter button halfway to lock focus (AF Lock) and brightness (AE Lock). Change composition while holding the button halfway, then press fully to shoot. Useful for subjects with difficult focus conditions.

Printing from Print History

  1. Press [MENU/OK] on the Playback Screen.
  2. Press or to select [PRINT HISTORY].
  3. Press [MENU/OK].
  4. Press or to select the image.
  5. Press (Print).
  6. Select [PRINT] or [PRINT WITH SOUND].
  7. Press [MENU/OK] to start printing.
  8. Remove the film when unloading stops.

Using a Memory Card

The camera supports micro SD and micro SDHC memory cards. Approximately 45 images can be stored in internal memory, but more can be saved using a memory card.

Notes on Memory Card Use:

Inserting a Memory Card:

  1. Open the card slot cover.
  2. Insert the memory card correctly until it clicks.
  3. Close the card slot cover.

Note: When removing a memory card, push it gently to release the lock.

Using the Shooting Menu

Change shooting settings via the Shooting Menu.

  1. On the Shooting Screen, press [MENU/OK].
  2. Press or to select a menu item.
  3. Change the settings.
  4. Press [MENU/OK] to apply.

Change playback settings via the Playback Menu.

  1. On the Playback Screen, press [MENU/OK].
  2. Press or to select a menu item.
  3. Change the settings.
  4. Press [MENU/OK] to apply.

Change camera settings via the Set-up Menu.

  1. On the Shooting or Playback Screen, press [MENU/OK].
  2. Press or to select a menu item.
  3. Change the settings.
  4. Press [MENU/OK] to apply.

Functions Available by Linking with the INSTAX MINI LIPLAY Smartphone App

Sound Function:

Convert recorded sound into a QR Code and print it on the image. Scan the QR Code to play the sound. You can also play or delete sounds from previously printed images.

Note: Deleting an Image With Sound from the app will make the sound unplayable even if the QR Code is read.

Remote Shooting Function:

Set Flash and Self-timer, and shoot remotely using the app.

Shortcut Function:

Freely set the 3 shortcut buttons to your favorite frames via the app.

Direct Print Function:

Send images from your smartphone to the camera for printing. Use the app to move, rotate, and zoom images before printing.

Troubleshooting

Check the following before considering a malfunction. Contact FUJIFILM service if problems persist.

Problem Possible causes and solutions
Cannot turn on the camera. Battery may not be charged. Charge the camera.
Battery loses charge quickly. Camera may be used in cold environment; keep warm. Battery level may be low; charge the camera.
Power cut off during use. Battery level may be low; charge the camera.
Charging does not start. Ensure USB power adapter is properly connected. Turn off the camera while charging.
Takes too long to charge. Charging may take time at low temperatures. Charge between +5 °C and +40 °C.
Self-timer lamp flashes while charging. Ensure power is on. If battery level is low, charge the camera.
Cannot shoot when pressing shutter button. Internal memory or memory card may be full; insert new card or delete images. Use a memory card formatted with this unit. Check memory card contact surface. Memory card may be broken.
Cannot focus the camera. Use AF/AE Lock for subjects difficult to focus on.
Flash does not fire. Check if Suppressed Flash is selected. Ensure you are within the correct shooting range and do not obstruct the flash.
Image is dark even though flash fired. Clean the lens. Ensure AF Frame is green. Hold the camera steady.
Camera does not work properly. Try pressing the reset button. Contact service if the problem persists.
Film pack does not load or load smoothly. Use FUJIFILM INSTAX Mini Instant Film. Align the yellow mark correctly. Ensure the film pack is not damaged.
Film does not unload. Film may be misaligned. Load a new film pack. If jammed, turn camera off and on. Remove jammed film and load new pack.
Finished prints are white. Do not open the film door until the film is used up. Film exposed to light turns white.
Print is uneven. Do not shake, bend, fold, or hold the print immediately after printing. Do not obstruct the film ejection slot.

Common Sense Camera Care:

Handling the LCD Monitor:

Do not scratch the LCD monitor. Consider using a protective plastic sheet.

Charging the Battery:

The battery is not charged at shipment. Charge fully before use. Charging time may increase at extreme temperatures. Do not charge in temperatures above +40 °C or below +5 °C.

Battery Life:

The battery can be recharged about 300 times. Reduced charge duration indicates the end of its service life.

Cautions: Handling the Battery:

The battery and camera body may become warm during use; this is normal.

Use only as part of a Bluetooth network. FUJIFILM is not liable for damages from unauthorized use. Do not use in applications requiring high reliability (medical devices, etc.). Use only in the country of sale. Observe location regulations. Wireless data may be intercepted; security is not guaranteed. Avoid locations with magnetic fields, static electricity, or radio interference.

Regulatory Information

The Bluetooth transmitter operates in the 2.4 GHz band.

Scientific evidence does not show health problems associated with low-power wireless devices, but absolute safety is not proven. Low-power wireless devices emit low levels of RF energy. While high RF levels can cause heating effects, low-level RF exposure that does not produce heating has no known adverse health effects.

The INSTAX mini HM1 complies with FCC radiation exposure limits for uncontrolled environments and meets FCC RF Exposure Guidelines.
