2. Installation
NOTICE: This product is classified as "full indoor type" and should only be installed in an indoor environment. Determine the door handing before installing the product.
Door Handing
Face the door from the exterior side:
- If the hinges are installed on the left, the door is left-handed.
- If the hinges are installed on the right, the door is right-handed.
Diagrams illustrate a left-handed door and a right-handed door, showing hinge placement.
Turn Piece Adjustment
The turn piece is located on the interior assembly (K) installed on the interior side of the door.
- For left-handed doors, rotate the turn piece 45° clockwise. [arrow]
- For right-handed doors, rotate the turn piece 45° counter-clockwise. [arrow]
Diagrams show the interior assembly with the turn piece rotated 45° for both left-handed and right-handed doors.
Preparation and Latch Installation
Prepare all the tools required for the installation.
Follow the steps in "Instructions for doors with existing holes" or "Drilling instructions" as applicable.
Step 1: Confirm Door Specifications
Confirm that the hole in the door edge is Ø1" (25.4 mm) and the door thickness is between 1-3/8" (35 mm) and 1-3/4" (45 mm). Also, confirm that the hole in the door face is Ø2-1/8" (54 mm).
Step 2: Install the Latch
Hold the latch (D) with the latch face flush against the door edge. Ensure that the slot is centered in the door hole. Adjust the latch if needed.
Diagrams show the latch being inserted and adjusted.
Step 3: Optional Latch Face Plate / Collar
- For doors with chiseled pockets: Pry open the attached latch face plate (E) and replace it with the rectangular one. [screwdriver]
- For doors without chiseled pockets: Pry open the face plate holder with a flat-head screwdriver. Attach the drive-in collar (F) to the latch. [screwdriver]
Step 4: Secure the Latch
- For latch with face plate (E): Fit the latch into the hole and secure with two screws (G). [screwdriver]
- For latch with drive-in collar (F): Insert the latch with drive-in collar and tap into position using a wood block and hammer. [wood block] [hammer]
Diagrams illustrate both methods of securing the latch.
Mounting the Exterior Components
Step 5: Mount Exterior Keypad
Mount the exterior keypad (C) on the door and run the cable through the door hole under the latch. The torque blade of the cylinder (B) must pass through the slot on the latch (D).
Diagrams show the keypad being mounted and the cable routed, with a close-up of the torque blade passing through the latch slot. Checkmarks indicate correct alignment. [check] [arrow]
Step 6: Install Mounting Plate
Pass the mounting plate (I) through the blade of the cylinder (B) and fix it with two bolts (J). Connect the cables, aligning the red edge of the connector. [arrow]
Diagrams show the mounting plate being attached and the cable connection.
Securing the Interior Assembly
Step 7: Secure Interior Assembly and Battery Cover
Remove the battery compartment cover (M). Secure the interior assembly (K) on the door with the screws (G, L). Make sure the latch bolt is in the unlocked position when finished. [arrow] [check] [cross]
Diagrams show the battery cover being removed, the interior assembly being screwed into place, and a check for the unlocked latch bolt.
Installing the Strike Plate
Step 8: Install Strike Plate
Ensure that the hole is at least 1" (25 mm) deep. Mount the strike plate (H) on the door frame with two screws (G).
Diagrams show the depth check and the strike plate being screwed to the door frame.
Drilling Instructions
NOTICE: Drill from one side until the drill just breaks through, then complete the hole from the other side to prevent wood from splintering.
Step 1: Use Template to Mark Holes
Use the template to mark two pairs of holes on the door. Fold the template along the fold line and place it along the door edge. Select the drilling point for different door thickness: 1-3/8" (35 mm), 1-9/16" (40 mm), or 1-3/4" (45 mm).
Diagram shows a folded template being used to mark hole positions on a door edge.
Step 2: Drill Main Holes
Drill the pairs of holes using chisel and circular drill bits. Drill Ø1" (25.4 mm) for the latch and Ø2-1/8" (54 mm) for the interior assembly. [drill] [chisel]
Diagram shows a drill with a hole saw and a drill with a smaller bit, drilling holes into a door edge.
Step 3: Chisel for Face Plates
Mark the outline of the face plates (E, P). Chisel 5/32" (4mm) deep for the face plate (E) and 1/8" (3mm) deep for the face plate (P). [chisel]
Diagrams show marking and chiseling operations for the face plates.
Step 4: Drill Screw Holes
Mark the positions of the screw holes. Drill two 1" (25 mm) deep holes for each face plate using a 1/8" (3 mm) drill bit. [drill]
Diagrams show marking screw holes and drilling them.
Step 5: Mark Latch Position on Door Frame
Close the door and mark the top and bottom position of the latch across the door frame. Open the door and measure the distance X from the exterior door edge to the flat end of the latch. [arrow]
Diagrams show marking the latch position on the door frame and measuring distance X.
Step 6: Position and Drill Strike Plate Holes
Mark a vertical line on the door frame for the measured distance X from the outside to the inside. Position the strike plate (H) within the guidelines. Mark and drill two 1" (25 mm) deep screw holes using a 1/8" (3 mm) drill bit. [drill]
Diagrams show marking a vertical line, positioning the strike plate, and drilling screw holes.
Step 7: Drill Holes for Lock and Lever
Mark and drill a 1" (25 mm) deep hole for the electronic lock and a 1/2" (13 mm) deep hole for the passage lever at the intersection of the horizontal and vertical lines of the strike plate (H) cutout. [drill]
Diagrams show marking and drilling these specific holes.
Step 8: Final Chisel for Strike Plate
Chisel 5/64" (2 mm) deep for the strike plate (H). [chisel]
Diagram shows chiseling the strike plate recess.
