Performance, Precision, Passion

Dunlop produces an extensive range of tyres for all types of motorcycles, from supersport and 125cc bikes to off-road and race machines. The brand's involvement at the highest levels of motorcycle racing underlines its belief in the 'race to road' concept. Factory-backed Motocross World Championship teams from Honda, Yamaha, and KTM chose Dunlop in 2011. Dunlop works closely with manufacturers, industry experts, and its Motorsport team to ensure street tyres meet the demands of motorcyclists. Rigorous testing assures reliability, value, and a strong reputation.

Choosing the correct tyre can seem daunting, as selection depends on the bike's make, category, and purpose. This product range guide simplifies the process.

Ride with Confidence

Dunlop engineers and designers across Europe, Japan, and North America are dedicated to developing high-performance street tyres. Global projects involving R&D, innovation, testing, Original Equipment (OE), and Motorsport allow Dunlop to leverage its strengths, resulting in high-quality products that perform well in independent tests. Continuous development aims to improve street tyres for confident riding. Racing experience informs street tyre development, with technologies like Multi-Tread and NTEC originating from the track. Dunlop engineers pioneered applying race tyre performance standards to street tyres.

Race to Road

In motorcycle racing, the final connection between track and rider is a small patch of material. Racing tyres must provide ultimate mechanical grip and accurate feedback in demanding environments. Technologies like Multi-Tread and NTEC were developed to answer critical questions about grip, braking, and acceleration. Dunlop focuses on refining the physical and mental connection between tyre and road, valuing rider feedback alongside data from champions and engineers. This scientific approach results in a winning riding experience.

Motorsport Involvement

Dunlop is the exclusive tyre supplier for Moto2 and Moto3 World Championships, where top racers compete. Moto3, replacing the 125cc class, features 250cc single-cylinder four-stroke engines. Dunlop tyres are standard. Dunlop supplies identical tyres to all riders, from well-funded superstars to underfunded rookies.

Endurance racing, a gruelling discipline, requires tyres to perform across a wide range of conditions, from cold mornings to hot deserts, and for extended periods. This reinforces the link between race-tyre and road-tyre development, making the Endurance World Championship a crucial test ground.

Dunlop's motocross heritage dates back to the K88 Sport. The brand continues to develop motocross tyres in the FIM Motocross World Championship, supplying works teams and achieving wins, such as the 2011 MX des Nations with Team USA. This relentless effort pushes tyre performance limits.

The Isle of Man TT is presented as the ultimate test for man, machine, and tyre, where riders push at extreme speeds. Dunlop has a strong track record at the TT, with riders achieving multiple victories on Dunlop tyres.

Original Equipment

Dunlop develops Original Equipment (OE) fitments in conjunction with motorcycle manufacturers early in a bike's development. Tyre selection is based on fitment with the bike's characteristics and intended purpose. Dunlop technicians work closely with manufacturers to achieve desired performance levels.

Dunlop is proud to be an OE tyre supplier for manufacturers including Yamaha, MV Agusta, Triumph, Aprilia, Harley-Davidson, Moto Guzzi, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Benelli, Husqvarna, and Norton.

Dunlop Tyre Technology

NTEC: This pressure-adjust system allows riders to optimize tyre pressure for enhanced handling, especially on track days. Deflating the tyre provides better grip at the limit, while re-inflating offers class-leading road performance.

Multi-Tread (MT) Technology: A pioneering multi-compound technology developed from racing success. It features a central traction compound for straight-line stability and a lateral compound for enhanced grip at maximum lean angles.

JointLess Belt (JLB) Construction: Utilizes Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA). JLB construction eliminates belt overlaps for smoother handling, minimizes dynamic growth at high speeds, maintains a stable contact patch, and reduces heat build-up.

Maintenance and Replacing Tyres

Front and Rear Tyre Matching

Ensuring correct tyre matching is crucial for optimal performance and handling. Follow selection guidelines and consult the motorcycle manufacturer. Avoid mixing radial and bias-ply tyres, and be aware of factors affecting handling like rider weight and fairings.

Tubes

Tubes are essential for tube-type wheels. Always use a new tube with a new tyre. Old tubes can stretch and crease. Repairs should only be done by experts. Ensure correct size markings and avoid fitting tubes in radial tyres unless specified.

Tyre Pressures

Always follow recommended pressure settings. Checking tyre pressure regularly, especially before long trips, is vital for safety and tyre longevity. Under-inflated tyres lead to imprecise cornering and overheating, while over-inflated tyres cause a hard ride and accelerated centre wear.

Tyre Repair

Dunlop recommends only permanent patch/plug repairs from the inside for small tread area punctures (max 1/4-inch diameter). Exterior repairs and using inner tubes as substitutes are not recommended. Speed limits apply after repair. Avoid liquid sealants as they can mask damage and lead to failure.

Tyres should not be repaired if they have been previously injected with sealant, the puncture is too large or not perpendicular, or if there is sidewall damage, ply separation, broken cords, or excessive wear.

Tyre Mounting

Mounting should only be performed by trained personnel. Follow safety precautions, including wearing eye protection, using proper lubrication, and ensuring correct bead seating. Never inflate above 40 psi to seat beads.

Importance of Motorcycle Tyre Inflation Maintenance

Regularly check tyre pressure when cold. Inspect tyres for wear, damage, cracks, or bulges. Remove and replace damaged tyres immediately. Pay attention to steering response and vibrations, which can indicate under-inflation or tyre damage.
